Favorite RPG/SRPG/somethingRPG

Any platform, old as hell or brand new, which is your number one super best favorite? I specify that because every time this question comes up I end up listing 4 or 5 great games and never end up making a decision. lol

Sadly I think everything that would be on a list for me is on SNES and PS1 for whatever reason, with Phantasy Star 4 being the Genesis exception. lol

I would say my #1 is a little strategy RPG called Final Fantasy Tactics. Perhaps you've heard of it? Yes this is also an excuse to meet other FFT nerds. Huzzah!

In my opinion, the best RPG, nay, the best game ever is action RPG CastleVania: Symphony of the Night. Followed closely by FFT: War of the Lions. That little update added some elements to an already classic story. Also, they both helped me stay sane in Iraq. Definitely worth some extra points for that.

I got a whole bunch of games but I really enjoyed PSO (Phantasy Star Online) for DC and GC, was my favorite game for a few years, I still really like it. Dont think alot of people agree with me tho. It was a nice hack and slash mmo, and who doesnt like andriod chicks with metal miniskirts!

I've never heard of Crystalis. :O Google says NES? Snap. I just had to buy SOTN off of XBL recently and replay for nostalgia last month even though I still have the PS disc. lol So fun. Oh and GEEZ Bart, way to kick off this multi-pick chaos!

Note my response to Bart's quote about SOTN, but yes, glorious game. I remember when I figured out how to do the gravity jump, I went out to the open area before Dracula's domain and just did it over and over. lol I wish I'd have played the PSP remake of FFT, but no luck so far. :/ I'm glad to see it in your top picks for various reasons, though, because I think single-player RPGs can be such personal experiences that cause a lot of variance in popularity.


Man, I loved the first Lufia, but the 2nd game annoyed the ***out of me at times. lol Mainly the puzzle/action button stuff, agh. lol


Had the chance to play Mother/Earthbound 3? I think a english patch project was completed a few months back. Supposedly one of the best everrrr. Cool to see Cross along with Trigger, too. Seems like it's not uncommon for people to dis Cross because it isn't really similar or openly related to Trigger. Still fun, though, on its own merit.


Some nice picks! I love a majority of the Tales games, and my top 3 are actually FFT, Xenogears and Vagrant Story. So friggin memorable. Wanting to reply Star Ocean recently too. lol

Good ol' Ogre battle. Playing Tactics Ogre atm after I heard it was a huge basis of FFT. I've only played the first Disgaea but ever since I've been in love with NIS and their style. Such an awesome company.

Nice to see classic FF picks from most! Seems like most FF7-and-beyond people never take the time (or can't) to revisit the oldies. haymagitek

So cheap! I rocked Criss/Rune to try and make things just a little challenging. lol

To be fair I have completed this game about 25ish times and did that only once to see how fast I could get it done. I think I took out Dracula at the end in about 25 seconds. lol

It's less a morality issue and more a "i'm too lazy to look for a ps1 emulator" issue. :u

For newer ones, I really enjoyed Lost Odyssey. Infinite Undiscovery and Last Remnant were pretty good as well.

haha, last time I played through I wanted to try and mess with the shield rod, but after getting the Criss it was all over. Like you said, boss battles became tests to see how fast they could be run through. lol
