I'm a sucker for a storyline. Just sometimes it would suck playing for a few hours and becoming really tired, then you wind up having to see a CS that lasts ~20 mins, ughhh lol.

You really did miss out if you genuinely appreciate story in an RPG. The battle system was a lot more fun than Xenosaga, I thought. (only played episode I) That game had an awesome story and some great characters. The lead actually had lines for once. lol Also, giant mecha battles that get progressively cooler. You get to upgrade parts! Lots of stylish elements and atmosphere to enjoy. This game maintains top honors for me. Edit: and apparently you aren't the only one who hasn't played. D: Let the Xenogears coercion begin, peeps.

SO many that have been listed already are my favorites. FF series, Chrono Trigger, Suikoden, etc.
But I feel FFIX was highly underrated and I loved that game. And also, I played this game recently and just wasn't the same, but when it first came out, I thought it was the ***, would be Legend of Legaia. Also Legend of Mana was pretty good.

For all the people that loved FFVII (I did) there needs to be that guy that sits in the corner and says how awful it was. Bonus points for saying a more obscure FF game was better, and EXTRA bonus points for saying a JP only FF game was better, since obviously if it was released here it's automatically crap for some reason...

FFXII was the best FF evar. (super sarcasm)
I'm gonna kinda change the subject here and throw myself into the fire. I enjoyed the .hack games. :( The gameplay was repetative, but the story that extends into an anime that can stand alone was pretty cool imo. Plus, all the while I was thinking "*** I wish FFXI was this cool."

Totally kills some games, and the badass martial arts of Legaia was the only thing that got me to finish it up. lol

Oh. And don't forget to add how people complain characters like Squall were too emo, but Sephiroth was the man. Black trench coat who QQ'd about his mommy. Yeah. Just saying. D: It was a good game, yes. There are just better out there.

Well you didn't have to get that ending but it did take me a few tries to get the "good" ending. Still a great game overall.

Any platform, old as hell or brand new, which is your number one super best favorite? I specify that because every time this question comes up I end up listing 4 or 5 great games and never end up making a decision. lol
Sadly I think everything that would be on a list for me is on SNES and PS1 for whatever reason, with Phantasy Star 4 being the Genesis exception. lol
I would say my #1 is a little strategy RPG called Final Fantasy Tactics. Perhaps you've heard of it? Yes this is also an excuse to meet other FFT nerds. Huzzah!
