I'm curious whether you think you could have gone pld/rune to help with some of the damage taken, instead of /blue. Outside of frightful roar and coccon, I'm guessing you were not getting much from the /blue, or am I wrong? Do you feel like the extra AOE hate generation was better than getting foil/rune ja's on PLD?

Both Chaos and Bahamut melee'd his top notch RUN and PLD for upper 500's often, sometimes higher. When full dispel went off he was getting bashed while rebuffing. Cocoon was kept up full time. There is a reason most first clears in FFXI don't post videos, and we all know that. But if this really was the modern AV and so poorly designed that any win in any circumstance is notable, we can at least applaud their persistence if not skill at pure vanilla gameplay. The main instance of Master Trial group bans I was talking about was the second and third clears of Oathsworn Blade. The second clear had a video, and they used an exploit. Furthermore, those bans are only alleged, I've never seen proof of it. Main reason it's relevant through is, Xolla's group (second clear group, and first group on V25 Bumba) stopped providing updates cold turkey. So I assume they stopped attempts cold turkey for some reason (whether it be member bans or another reason). It wasn't this group who cleared Wing of War that got banned though. They obviously used some degree of 'cheats' or they would've posted the video. I doubt they went any further than you'd see in typical endgame play, though (JA0, gearswap, etc).
There's certainly room for treating the first recorded clear as more legitimate. But, until the time that recorded clear appears, give them credit for what they managed to do. There aren't a whole lot of English speakers who would try it without anything that could be called cheating. Even MT can't get a whole group to play that way. Tbh any addons we used was not the reason no video was posted, because if that were the case then i wouldn't have posted a 1 KI Ranged method of v25 Arebati video (2 weeks before the clear which actively shows me fixing my gearswap mid fight and tabs to the notepad to fix lol). It's not about the addons used, if any. It's just as simple as if 1 person doesn't wanna be in a video then I won't post.

If I had beaten this with teleport, invincibility, instant 2h, eternal invincibility, paid $10k to chinese bot to hack SE server, I'd still be proud.
It's a known thing in life - some people get it done, some *** about it. I dislike every single person on this group - still wouldn't diminish such great accomplishment from them because I ain't no lil ***. Congrats on this clear!

Bigtymer's group was among the early pioneers who ran the fight with no intention of winning (back in early 2024), so they could get an understanding of the mechanics. It's called a "dummy run", because you go in knowing you aren't going to win. They asked me to join them for a couple test runs to shoot chaos to find out if the dragons could be killed individually. Turns out they couldn't. We learned about the -dt from bahamut's invincible back then, learned that the dragons have just under 20 million hp, tried things like separating the two dragons to find out if it reduced the amount of -dt, etc etc. They figured out the positioning people needed to stand at to prevent the back row from getting hit by yawp, tried all kinds of things so see if there was a hidden trigger to break the -dt (nothing worked), and that testing gave people an understanding of the fight mechanics so that when the real efforts to clear began people would know what they had to do. There was a lot of shooting and dying involved with this fight before people even began trying to clear it for real. Bigtymer was the leader who organized most of those early test runs, so people gave a nod to him for his efforts and the exemplar points people sacrificed in the name of knowledge. That information was shared among the few people that actually cared enough to try to go for the kill. The people who cleared the fight were not the same people who did the early testing. I realized how poorly balanced the fight was back then already and haven't been back since. It's too much time and grind for me to stomach. And the people who got banned were in Xolla's group, not on the NA side. It sounds like you listened to a podcast or watched a video somewhere and misunderstood what was being said.

Like I know y'all haven't played FFXI in decades, but literally no accomplishment is made without some third party tool such as Windower or GearSwap. It doesn't happen. If you had any kind of tenuous to connection to this game - or weren't complete jerks - you'd know that.
