Eh... either way old salvage still is a fairly big *** block on the alex if you consider all the limitations, especially if you start to do it for gear with others.

Were those NMs spawned by Ramparts?

Maybe they just didn't get good drops and wanted to be "first to report about neo-salvage" and just stated it didn't drop any? *shrug*

we went west at the start. then we cleared all ramparts in the west side rooms then east siderooms, after the last mob died, 1 rampart together with NM toad popped in the room down the stairs. that NM dropped the purse along with some plans.

You ever done VW? some people have luck some people do not, Quantifying an event based on 1 run is a stupid idea, should collect info from a decent amount of runs before coming to a conclusion. Point is they still drop a fair amount of alex, and NM's appeared 100%
Plus perhaps we cleared more mobs? and yes some NM's were spawned by ramparts, although they seemed to be end off a mob type boss tbh.

I did SSR a little while ago with a couple friends. THF SCH and a 98NIN.
Everything Nezea said also happened for us. However, on the floor right before the boss floor (4? the one where the turtle nm is on in old SSR) we pulled a rampart in the turtle's room. It popped 3 chariots out. Those were a pretty huge time sink so after killing one I just flee'd to the porter agro'ing everything I found to see if anything good popped.
The rampart at the very end, right before the porter popped out a single Dvergr mob, named Dvergr. We tried to kill it but he just kept spamming magic too much and we wiped. Someone else in my pt said that an acrolith mob had popped a ways back as well.
We warped up to the boss after reraising and fought it til we timed out. We started with about 4 minutes and got it to about 50%. With a proper job tanking and a real DD it seemed like it would be easier than the Dvergr mob on the floor before it.
we found 2 pieces of alexandrite the whole run. The NMs dropped none, and maybe 1 out of 8 gears dropped any. We never were able to unlock waist and rings either. There could have been something on the 4th floor since we skipped much of it, but I didn't see any mobs besides the chariots, gears and the NMs. The chariot didn't unlock anything.
Finally, one last thing... Anyone who has done new salvage yet, have you noticed spellcast not working inside? Mine didn't work inside but as soon as we left it worked fine again.

Also about unlocking pathos. it seems that the Lamp reflects what you unlock on the previous floor. ex: if u dont kill anything on 1 floor, the lamp on next floor wont give you any unlocks at all.

They had a problem with it not being able to detect, or mis-detecting, any %Status things the Windower forums said for one problem. I noticed that too when we had Auspice up and spellcast thought we were asleep.

The pathos seemed to give me junk on the 2nd lamp, said 13 to unlock but all things I had previous unlocked, That said we didn't all get the same options at the start which was unpleasent for our mage rdm

With regards to spellcast, it doesn't understand / recognise the restrictions on you properly, so when it detects -stat and auspice it'll scream you're sleeping!!!! It's the combination of stat and effect codes messing with SC, happened awhile back on another event, we can expect an update to rectify this.

Oh but we didn't see a single gear piece. IE: 45 etc's
Anyone found out how to even look at the new armor in game yet? ie, which pieces are for what and No. of each paper per armor type?? I didn't see a single piece of info re: this.

If it works I plan to test all of the refresh/regen pieces and test if we happen to get partial set bonuses with the +1 set although I seriously doubt we would.

Just did everything as Clairfox did. I can confirm that alexandrite does drop from the gears.
I can upload some pics tomorrow I guess. We also encounted a soulflayer on the third flour, my whm mule agroed a rampart we were heading south I'll have to look at a zone map tomorrow to figure out exactly where it was, but with TH8 it dropped 2 tutelary patterns, name was : Lunatic Psyschflayer.
We made our way to floor 4, and the ramparts there spawn chariots which also drop alex. We were low on time at this point but did manage to make it to the boss floor. But timed our right as we opened the door to the room.
sorry for spelling, grammer, lame, mistakes. Gnite

Not sure why you keep saying "sidegrades". A good many of these are upgrades, even over the best pieces of gear currently available. Just small upgrades.
Ffxi isn't like WoW (or other MMO's, tho tbh I haven't played others outside these 2). They don't release huge upgrades every couple months that completely trounce every piece of old gear.
I'm totally fine with minor upgrade every new content released, instead of trashing my old work every 3~6 months with gears that's better in every aspect. It feel pretty lame if they want to trash old gears every 3~6 months and made me feel like I've never accomplish anything when new update come and I need to spend same amount of time as a complete new players to update gears again. And I have no idea why ppl are expecting every new content makes old content gears entirely useless. I sacrificed quite a lot of time to get NNI gear etc, I would have just spend the time on other stuff if I know 7 months later it's just another store-able pieces and means nothing.

I just went back into SSRII again to learn some more. Some of it's already been said now but there is one thing that happened that I didn't really understand. On the third floor we made our way to where Gyroscopic Gears normally spawns. There were 4 ramparts; one in each corner. They all spawn gears.
We killed the two closest ones and started on the one in the far left, but in the middle of killing some of those gears, a Long-Armed Chariot suddenly popped right on top of me along with another rampart. My friend noted that it happened just after we killed one of the multiple gears, so perhaps that has something to do with it.
The Long-Armed Chariot didn't seem to behave quite like the one in regular SSR. In particular it didn't use Brain Jack until it was at like 1% but then we just killed it before anything actually happened. But at least I can say it does have the ability to use it, even if not in the same pattern as before.
We just rushed through the 4th floor since we were running low on time. It didn't seem very apparent to me where you might find NMs on that floor. But before we entered the room before the portal a tonne of gears and acrolith spawned in the room behind us. No idea if they have any kind of significance though.
As for the boss, it does seem a bit nasty if you're unprepared. We just had a go at it to see what it's like, since we had only 5 minutes left anyway. It spams Cackle and instant casts really nasty black magic. Thunder V hit for 2301 on someone who had been Cackled.
This time we got 22 alexandrite in total. One came from a purse dropped by the PLD fomor NM on the 2nd floor. The rest were just singles dropped from the gears. Considering how many NMs we killed I think it's quite pathetic. I'm not at all optimistic about this event.

Everyone can find something to do in game still, if they really want to. Abyssea is old etc etc, but people are still making Emps or finishing up more +2 sets.
Given how long ago Salvage renewal was announced though, and comparing the value salvage armor it had back at 75 as opposed to Nyzul Isle armor, I would've expected far better upgrades.
It's not the players that were expecting something better than this that are at fault, but SE for taking this long to squeeze this stuff out of its buttcheecks.
