Random Question thread (FFXI related)

Does anyone know exactly which Voidwatch fights /fume does not work on?
It seems to be all four of the Provenance ones in my experience, but I don't know if any of them "it does work but only every 5 minutes and not 30 seconds even if you have the RoV KI" or something like that.

Supposed to work on everything. I've done it to all 4 in prov.
You have to be tanking, that sometimes causes issues. But i'm not sure about the rov reduction not working correctly

You have to be tanking, that sometimes causes issues. But i'm not sure about the rov reduction not working correctly Huh. I'm usually soloing it and it still didn't seem to work for me... but I'm sure I'm doing something wrong!
Does timing matter (like Abyssea red procs, they can't be midcast?) or something - BG wiki says it doesn't but I never know because I'm very dumb.
also why does one white proc not give me both atmacites in the Provenance fights, it's failed twice now, the second time both Caturae were alive so it wasn't that :(

You gotta proc both of em for the atmacites
Theyre individual mobs both in the fight

Looking for some information on Imperial Defense Values, hoping somebody has more information than what is already provided here as it seems a bit outdated and I like having Temporary Items when Besieged comes around. It seems like the value is linked to Gajaad and Imperial Bronzepieces, however the trade values, and maximums appear incorrect?
Today on Asura we had two Besieged battles.
Before #1, Imperial Defense 137
After: 96
Dropping under 100 removed some temp items from Besieged #2(notably Dusty Wings).
After battle #2, I purchased and traded 300 iBronzepieces to Gajaad, which did not increase our imperial defense at all. I had some friends trade which bumped us up to 112.
I traded 600 additional pieces, and we went from 112 -> 124. Shortly after I traded an additional 600, and it did not change the value.
I waited a bit, and traded 500 more. We went from 126->136. I again got 500 more, traded, and we remained 136.
It's looking like its 50 bronze pieces = 1 Imperial Defense level, but am I missing a maximum trade threshold per game day/per person or something?
Edit: After posting this, day rollover bumped us to 137. Traded 1000, bumped to 146.

You gotta proc both of em for the atmacites
Theyre individual mobs both in the fight on the one hand this makes perfect sense
on the other, BG wiki just says "Battle Completion" for the reward type goddammit

Where do peeps on the tiny tiny servers server hop to shop AH items these days.
Shiva looks like the best bet to me.

Do Gaol / Sortie / Escha / other bosses use Amnesia moves/spells that can be removed by Ecphoria Ring (cure Amnesia, 100 charges)?
Is this useful in the game or has it been nerfed to be useless on (most) bosses?

It's not practical. It was released during ToAU era where you might full time it while fighting something like Imps (Abrasive Tantara), and then you could immediately remove amnesia. It requires 30 seconds to pass before using the enchantments, and then imposes an annoying 10-second no-ability use restriction. So equipping it to remove amnesia would take 40 seconds at minimum before you're able to do anything else. Was an option for it's time, but has all been replaced by simply wearing magic evasion gear, which can help you outright resist amnesia completely or reduce the enfeebling duration on the effect.
There's only really a handful of monsters that inflict amnesia nowadays (Imps in Limbus, Pixies (don't fight them), Gaol T1 Butterfly, Lamiae in Segments (rare move)), so it's not a serious problem now. If it is, gear accordingly or use barspells

If you pop hoxne ampulla buff on WAR with 100% double attack rate from other gear and your gil is at zero, do you still get 1k deducted for every double attack occurring?
Asura.Eiryl
By Asura.Eiryl 2026-06-20 14:00:29
How can you take 1k from zero
You can't go negative (underflow glitches withstanding)
Do you mean, if you wear 100% DA and use Hoxne, will your gil move.
By Shichishito 2026-06-20 14:17:27
How can you take 1k from zero Good point.
The scenario I ment was gil being not at 0 but below the 10000k (?) threshold where it starts deducting less than 1k/proc but also causes double attacks to occur less and less frequently.
I don't know the specific numbers but lets say the threshold where hoxne effect drops off is 10000 gil, your holding just 5000 and now double attack from hoxne only triggers 50% instead of 100% of the time. You are WAR though and your other equipment already grants you 100% double attack rate, does each double attack still deduct gil even though 50% of those double attacks were triggered from gear and not from hoxne?
Do you mean, if you wear 100% DA and use Hoxne, will your gil move. I think that one was already answered with hoxne buff will trigger the 1k deduction even if you already have 100% double attack from gear, at least if you have plenty of gil so you're not below the drop off threshold.

If you pop hoxne ampulla buff on WAR with 100% double attack rate from other gear and your gil is at zero, do you still get 1k deducted for every double attack occurring? Why the *** would you do this to begin with????????????
I don't know the specific numbers but lets say the threshold where hoxne effect drops off is 10000 gil, your holding just 5000 and now double attack from hoxne only triggers 50% instead of 100% of the time. What????
This threshold is less than 1000 gil.

Ah you want to know if you wear 100% but only have enough gil to trigger 50%
How will the game act
DA and random if hoxne fee or DA and fee anyway

By Shichishito 2026-06-20 14:48:27
What????
This threshold is less than 1000 gil. Then same example but you're just holding 500 gil.
Why the *** would you do this to begin with???????????? Maybe you want the extra buff icon so you can benefit from the +1% WS attack from Naegling, I don't know.
I'm primarily curious if it's bugged/lazily programmed so it keeps deducting gil on double attack procs while the buff is active regardless of whether the proc was caused by the buff or other gear.
By Nariont 2026-06-20 14:51:41
Would assume the enchantment rolls 1st, if gil is 0 then its not in effect and the WARs DA will roll instead

By Asura.Eiryl 2026-06-20 14:55:08
Whats a better question is with zero gil does the buff stay up and can you then trade gil and the game doesn't take it
...or inject a packet that says "yes server I do have 1k every time"
That'd be a programming error
By Shichishito 2026-06-20 15:00:08
What if the 1k gil is passed to a alt the same tick it should get deducted? Passing the same 1k back and forth, triggering the 100% double attack but never consume any gil?
By Dodik 2026-06-20 15:13:54
You know, making use of exploits, whether it's a bug or not, is bannable.

The server is single-threaded as far as any testing can show, so there's no 'same tick'. One thing happens before the other. You can't pass gil at 'the same tick' nor can you tell the server how much gil you have (there's not a packet for that at all, the server tells you what you have). There's not any sort of packet sent for an attack round occurring either, the server initiates that as well.
If you want to use the Ampulla, you have to be willing to spend gil.
By Shichishito 2026-06-21 01:40:45
You know, making use of exploits, whether it's a bug or not, is bannable. But theory crafting isn't and if you want a sliver of a chance to see exploiting get banned the exploit needs to be known first.
SE has a track record of being sloppy. Hoxne is afaik a new mechanic so it's a obvious attack angle for someone who's trying to do funny business.
I'd also argue that if a WAR can drop double attack pieces for more efficient gear while keeping DA capped with hoxne buff and simultaneously save a bit of gil by optimising the gil threshold mechanic (assuming it is programmed that way) isn't clear cut exploiting.
By Dodik 2026-06-21 02:39:35
You're on record looking for ways to circumvent the "spend gil for guaranteed double attack" mechanic to gain the double attack bonus without spending gil.
That is attempting to circumvent an in-game mechanic, otherwise known as an exploit.
I'm sure SE will listen to you arguing semantics after they ban you (riiight).
Anyway, no, that doesn't work. The game calculates how many attacks per round you will have in one go. The attacks you see your character make are just an animation, generated after the server tells the client how many attacks you have made that round.
That decision has already been made by the time your character swings and the client cannot influence it.
If, in theory, you did not have to activate ampula to gain its buff, say it activated on wearing it like an aura, then you could play around with sets and do things like use DA in gear for one swing, then ampula for next and so forth. That's the same concept as gear swapping. You could use ampula for WS but not for regular swings.
You still can't decide to swap gear mid-swing, because there is no mid-swing, that swing is in the past, already happened.

Of course, have fun running around with zero gil so you
can benefit from the +1% WS attack from Naegling

If you want to use the Ampulla, you have to be willing to spend gil. But do you have to spend the full 1k every hit or could you get away with paying less and still maintain a 100% DA rate?
Of course, have fun running around with zero gil In the scenario I tried to render out above you'd want to keep your gil counter at a steady value above 0 but below the 1k threshold
You don't have to run around with low gil either cause the most obvious and convenient way to take advantage of this mechanic would be a alt that constantly feeds you gil by frequenting your mains bazaar.
Alternatively one could fill a ***ton of chochoroon sacks around new year or christmas although I think the delay of opening one would defeat most of the advantage one could gain from this practice.
By Dodik 2026-06-21 05:11:32
Why are you such a ***. Is it paying off well in your day to day life you think?
Question for others: If there was a buff in XI to make everyone be /mute would you use it?
By Shichishito 2026-06-21 06:02:48
Why are you such a ***. Is it paying off well in your day to day life you think? It's a running gag that any suggestions made on this board are pointless cause SE isn't reading FFXIAH. A board frequented by RMT, discussing all sorts of third party tools and exploits.
In that environment you pick out a guy that theory crafts how someone could min-max a given game mechanic and dares to wonder if SE, that has a track record of overlooking things, might overlooked something again.
You address that guy with a post that, considering the circumstance, has the undertone of "I'm going to snitch you to SE to get you banned".
If this isn't peak clownery then I don't know anymore. I'm not convinced that I'm the *** this time.
By Dodik 2026-06-21 06:11:32
'm not convinced that I'm the *** this time.
A thing you say every time. Might want to think on that.
My tone wasn't I am going to snitch on you. I don't think the "defense force" is a real thing and I think the numbers of accounts they report to ban every month is made up.
Either way, I wouldn't snitch on anyone (stitches). It was more of a warning in the line of "careful advertising doing this much publicly because it can get you banned".

If you're at delay cap you're executing an attack round every second, give or take.
You mean to tell me you're going to somehow trade gil back and forth on two characters, simultaneously, every second?
I don't think you understand how bazaars work.
Also: you have to close the bazaar every time you want to execute any macro.
This is not even remotely feasible, even if this imaginary exploit existed, without HEAVY use of automation (read: bots). If you don't think SE will notice someone instantly purchasing from a bazaar every second they're in combat for hours at a time...I've got a bridge to sell you.
His warning was a good one. This is both a dumb idea and also something that is very risky and (likely) extremely easy to notice, track, and is insanely obviously botting to anyone who knows anything about FFXI.
Maybe SE doesn't have anyone on the staff who knows *** about FFXI anymore, IDK. I wouldn't risk my account for it. Certainly not to save a pittance of gil.
