Any tips for maximizing allied notes from campaign battles? It's a pain in the rear chasing campaign battles down as it is and seems it's going to take a few battles to get the amounts needed.

I tried spamming bard spells for 10 minutes with tags on, didn't feel very efficient. Am I doing it wrong? Is there a better way?

TL;DR: Fight and kill 2-4 mobs, melee damage only, no WS. Wait til 15minutes has passed since you recieved tags, then turn them in and repeat. 1 battle of this will be enough to rank up.

Longer:
You can get credit for up to 300xp/150AN (doubled during monthly campaign bonus) every 30 seconds of tag duration at Medal of Altana. It scales down slightly as your medal is lower.

You can earn points much much faster than you can get credit for them, but there's a limit of 15 minutes of points per set of tags.

If you're on something that can sleep/hold mobs safely, keep 1-2 out of the range of the allied NPCs so the battle doesn't end earlier than your 15 minute cutoff.

If you goal is to rank up your medals, the trick is absolutely don't ever do campaign battles, for any reason.

Campaign ops take about 30 seconds to 2 minutes and <5 of them will rank you up.

Looks like you got a couple good answers already, but I'll add my 2 cents.

I did all my rank ups through campaign battles on WAR. My eval was always higher when I used Provoke as much as possible while killing stuff.

Pretty sure you can boost eval by generating loads of enmity.

Switch all your guys to tanks or war sub or something, and generate a lot of enmity/use enmity actions frequently. Like flash and poisonga foil and ***.

No need to get the credit asap, cause you can only rank up once per hour.

And weaponskill less, cause your weaponskills are too strong and will kill the mobs. Killing mob is good credit, but you generate like no enmity and don't get credit for the overflow damage either.

It's less about ranking up and all that, more so just completing the related campaign ops. When there's only one zone I can earn credit from, it stinks having the battles end quick and waiting for another battle to start in that same zone.

I'll try pulling things away and sleeping them to drag the battle out. Thanks for the tips!

Campaign mobs are very low level, which means that they have absolutely massive damage to enmity ratios. There's a reason that Atonement(or any source of damage) was one of the best enmity actions back as 75(when Atonement's enmity was still damage based.) Completely destroying a single mob would generate far more enmity in an instant than spamming provoke or enmity actions would, unless you kept at it for a rather long time.

But the other thing that spamming enmity actions and not killing mobs does, is it takes time. And time is by far the most important factor because all campaign gains are capped based on the amount of time you've had tags. It also means that you are performing a greater variety of actions than if you were just killing things. Which leads into how the campaign battle evaluation system works...

Campaign credits you for various different action types. And each type has a cap, and an overall cap, based on time spent with allied tags. JPwiki has lots of info on this.

- Damage, Separate physical and magical categories
- Healing. Separate self and other cure categories
- Auto attacks. credited per round, not per hit.
- Damage taken. No credit for evading.
- Buffing. Separate self and other categories. Also seems to be a song category and and enhancing magic category. Some JAs also count. Buffing in general got nerfed pretty hard when SE limited things to prevent players from spamming new tags over and over, though.
- Debuffing. DoT debuffs that deal direct damage, like Dia or Bio, count towards the magic damage category rather than the debuff category.
- Skillchains
- Raising people
- Killing blows

So a combination of spending more time in a campaign battle, and performing more various different actions will get you more credit, up to the current overall time based cap.

So while it is wise not to do too much damage too fast... and end the battle prematurely. I see little reason to believe that your results are actually based on enmity generation, and not just on performing more types of credited actions while spending more time in campaign.

That said, I can't completely exclude the possibility that enmity could also be a factor. It could be tested. But I find that the current info about the evaluation system also serves as a reasonable explanation for your results.

I can't test myself atm. Not subbed. But... It wouldn't be too hard to design a test.

Hmm, say... Compare two debuffs. Flash, and say, slow. Both should credit you for an enfeeble, but flash generates a ton more enmity. So if enmity is a factor, then flash should yield more credit.

So you get tags, flash a mob, then go get your tags removed without taking damage or taking any other actions. And note the exp/AN gains. Also mark how long you'd had tags when you end, since that affects your cap. Not sure how much you get for a single action, but I doubt you'll hit even your initial cap in a single cast. But you could repeat the test at a higher cap by waiting a minute or two after getting tags. Just make sure that each test pair has the same tag duration.

Anyway, if the flash test gets more credit while all other factors are controlled for, then enmity may be a factor.
