Once you switch nations in the past (after the first switch ever which is "free") you do lose 2 ranks.
If you switch again it's 2 more.
If you didn't recover the initially lost 2 ranks you're now at -4 ranks lost, right?
If I recall with RoV KI you can request the evaluation once per in-game Day (every hour?) instead that once every 5 earth days like it was originally.
How much Allied Notes would you have to gain to "recover" 2 lost ranks?
Is total amount of gained Allied Notes the only metric that matters, no matter how you obtain them? Or is there something else at play?

The Stygian Pact page is correct.
Unwavering Resolve is a bit off. You do not need to defeat Odin Prime 12 times in order to proceed to Stygian Pact. You just need to clear the Unwavering Resolve quest once.
The 12 times thing gives you a different title, which matters only if you want the extra title.
If you're just looking to proceed to Stygian Pact just need to have cleared the Unwavering Resolve quest.
I'd done it a couple years ago for mythic completion.
Follow the walkthrough in all the quests, ignore the notes under Unwavering Resolve.
I don't know if Odin Prime can only be done once a day, only did it the once. The 75 Odin Prime fight is once per earth day. The “A Stygian Pact” quest does indeed require 12 completions. Unwavering resolve has dialogue differences depending on your run count https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Unwavering_Resolve/Plot_Details
You also did not do this as part of mythic completion. Einherjar odin is for that not odin prime

Usually 1-2 large campaign battles or high value campaign ops will be enough to increase 1 rank. Just 1-2? Sounds too little, are you sure?
Isn't there, maybe hidden in some old BG discussion, an approximate threshold one should be looking up to?
I mean, if you do an evaluation and find out after that it wasn't enough to rank up is no big deal with the TVR Key item, you "only" have to wait 1 in-game day (1 hour) instead of 5 days, at the same time though I would rather go for evaluation when I can be certain, or pretty close to that, that I'm gonna rank up.
While at the same time avoiding doing "too much" and wasting time/effort when I needed much less do get my rank up.
Not sure if what I mean is clear or not °-°

Ah cool, thanks for clarifying.

You can just deny the evaluation and continue working on it, you don't lose anything. That's what I always did. Check the evaluation after every couple campaign ops.
Absolutely not worth doing campaign battles for rank ups. I did nothing but low tier, random, extremely quick campaign ops from the worst medal all the way to altana.

Just to clarify, I already built up to Altana back in the days, I simply do not remember how I did (probably just campaign battles with offensive/defensive Campaign ops?) or how long it took me.
It's just that I plan to do a couple of switches in the next week(s) and wanted to get an idea of how long it's gonna take me to recover the 2 ranks that I'm gonna lose with each nation switch.

A rank is probably about 10 minutes of campaign ops, if you take the lazy route.

Why do people say to use Skrymir Cord +1 over Orpheus's Sash for Leaden Salute when you can't use Hachirin-no-Obi?
I'm sure I'm doing the math wrong here somewhere, but:
"Magic Damage" term (additive with base WS damage) without Cord is +217 from Death Penalty, +250 from Telopanos Sword, +25 from Comm. Charm +2, +20 from an Ambuscade cape. Total of +512.
So Cord adds 35/512 = 6.8% to that term.
This would be +6.8% damage if base WS damage was 0. It's going to be less than that, but I'm being maximally generous and we'll call it that.
Cord also has 7 MAB, other slots are giving you 200 (actually more, this is an underestimate), so call that another 3.5%.
Final effect is 1.068 * 1.035 = 10.5%.
"Dark Affinity" term (multiplicative at the end) without Sash is +0.28 from Pixie Hairpin +1, +0.05 from Archon Ring. Total of 1.33 multiplier.
So Sash adds 0.15/1.33 = 11.2% to that term (as long as you're in melee range for max damage!)
Isn't Sash better as long as you're in melee range? Are people assuming they're not in melee range?
Obviously I'll just use Obi in almost every relevant situation (thanks, forced weather in some instances!)... but what am I missing? I'm very stupid so it could be anything.
By Nariont 2026-08-19 07:54:34
You only use skkymir when outside of O.sash's optimal range as you said and there's not dark day/weather to take advantage of for obi, like you surmised, may be some misunderstanding in what you are being told or who is telling it to you but its always been the fall back when the above 2 cases arent present.

may be some misunderstanding in what you are being told or who is telling it to you ...the same people who put fully auged Limbus gear in every TP set without any notes for alternatives don't bother to footnote their assumptions about belts?
naw that seems unlikely I must be missing something
(thank you, it's good to know my math is not wrong or anything)

If I recall with RoV KI you can request the evaluation once per in-game Day (every hour?) instead that once every 5 earth days like it was originally. Quote from wiki:
Quote: Obtaining the Key Item "Rhapsody in Mauve" will reduce the refresh of Op Credits to one per 10 Earth minutes, but the maximum of 7 credits remains unchanged.
NVM you were looking for the evaluation process, not Op credits, my bad.

Was it ever mathed out or figured out, if venus orbs are worth doing over mars?
Asura.Eiryl

Since the ITG change mars are a complete waste of time
By AegParm 2026-08-19 13:39:01
It's also raining vouchers at this point. Go big or go home / be done faster to do something more fun.

I think it depends on your definition of "worth". I agree with Eiryl and AegParm in both instances, just though it depends what you're after. If you have nothing and are looking for Volume Rewards from Thuds and Loud Thuds, Mars makes sense to get a lot of "stuff". If you're like me, you don't have any interest in anything besides ITG noises, and Venus Orbs have a higher occurrence rate of that vs Mars. Mars are just a waste of time.
As a personal anecdote, it's quite frustrating finally getting an ITG noise and you get a sack of Snoworb stones (I know these aren't from the ITG), because you only need 3-4 more items from that pool and you already had what the game was gonna give you. Kinda wish it did infinite invisible rolls until it found an item you DON'T have and get it to you. Because getting the Crep Cloak or Regal Captains Gloves/Cuffs is kinda just as bad as trying to get that last Malignance item from back in the day, before Malignance Box existed. You're better off selling orbs when you get to this point. You rarely see ITGs to begin with, imagine the odds of it being THAT one item you wanted out of hundreds. Near impossible.
By Shichishito 2026-08-19 13:58:35
For stuff like crepuscular cloak or knife I think you still want to aim for loud thuds, no? So for those mars orbs might still be the better choice.
By ryukin182 2026-08-19 14:00:51
Ah thanks everyone. I'll just do venus, as doing mars orbs takes hours. Yeah i've always been a loud thud or go home kind of person with all my orbs.
With impossible to gauge, is that the new thing to yolo? Been doing loud thuds since i came back and it's literal all garbage aside from pulse wep drops
By Shichishito 2026-08-19 14:05:41
Impossible to gauge is what you target if you want the hoxne equipment. Not sure if it also has other items in the same loot pool though.

When you examine the box in Port Jueno for artifact hands and Borghertz's shade shows up his name is colored yellow like a monster, not green like a friendly NPC. Any idea why or other examples of NPCs with the wrong name color?

So a Malachite Crystal is impossible and a stack of detritus is a thud. Ok...

Have to put some disappointment in the ITG
Also need to leave some good rewards in LT to make people think twice about pushing further on their 3 LT run.

The Volte set from Dynamis-D is still in LT pool. Most of the gear is dated, but a few pieces have some niche use cases (Volte haub set is good idle regen, volte jupon set is good TH+4 set, etc).
By Shichishito 2026-08-19 16:09:31
They moved stuff like shinryu drops into the impossible to gauge pool? Well then there really isn't much left in loud thuds, maybe a couple of gil drops like orpheus's sash and a view volte pieces.
Looks like they even put pulse weapons in impossible to gauge pool...
By the way, if you didn't pick up your free Mars orb cause you had one still in inventory so that the RoE is finished and marked yellow, pick it up before the next patch or you'll lose it.
Found out the hard way.

For the "Skull of XX" NMs in Eldieme Necropolis, you need to trade a Flint Stone to a ??? in 7 different spots almost at the same time...
That pretty much means you can't do it solo, correct?
Or am I missing something?

Or am I missing something? Last time I did this, I logged mules out at each location.

Not sure but afaik that one never received a QoT update so you still need multiple people to activate.
Wiki says it's active for 5 minutes after you traded the flint stone. I suppose one person could trigger at least 2 skulls by trading one flint stone to for example skull of greed or gluttony, cast escape which should place you at Batallia Downs 4 exit according to wiki if I read that correct? That should leave you enough time to zone back in and reach skull of sloth before the timer runs out?
Maybe there is some voidwatch/unity/whatever warp that will place you at a different part of the basement I'm not aware of, where you could pull of a similar trick. Maybe a good COR roll makes you fast enough so 1 person could warp right after triggering one skull, take Survival Guide to Eldieme Necropolis entrance and run to one of the drop holes at a, b, c or d to reach a second skull.
But unless you use cheats I think you'll need at least a couple of people or mules.
For those of you that visit Bg you already know the premise of this thread but for those that don't, it's simple.
