Hey guys, I've been playing for a very long time and I'm going to continue to play for a while but I don't have the time for most endgame events and as a result won't be able to get a lot of the best Rare/Ex gear.
My question is, which jobs can be geared from only AH (buyable) gear and still be considered well geared? Basically, which jobs demand the least amount of Rare/Ex gear to be good?
I'm considering DNC right now. Thanks for the input.

My vote is on SAM, you can gear it from the AH and still put out decent damage.

Ranger and Samurai are good choices off the top of my head. The average SAM & RNG I see have very little rare/ex gear and the one's they do have are relatively easy to obtain (AF for RNG and Bushi for SAM as examples).
Melee haidate jobs would be considered worst off w/o haidate than Homam legs jobs w/o homam legs. My vote for DD would be a homam job if you're not going to be worried about rare/ex
Rng would work well if you wanted a ranged DD. Having taken MNK up to 75, I was able to use alot of the same gear for taking SAM to 60, but I suppose you've already taken into account what you have lying around the old mog house. :)
DNC's a great job, and you can get away with a lot of buyable stuff, but a lot of the important pieces are rare/ex, for example a Joytoy... BRD is a good AH job. So is WHM...
Cool, I guess I'm headed in the right direction since I've been leveling SAM. I got it to 60 last night. I'm just worried that once I hit 75 I'll be gimp without a bunch of rare/ex gear, but this seems to be not the case.
Also any opinions on dancer? I have a decent amount of gil to work with for gear so I can get a lot of high end buyable items. Would an AH dancer be doable? AH dnc very doable, moreso than sam, imo.
BLM, in general.
You can do a near fully geared without any non AH gear. Exceptions would obviously be AF1 (easy enough to get) and Moldavite Earring. Vicious Mufflers can replace Zenith Hands, most LSes sell em fairly cheap now though.

i would say any job can be "well" geared from the AH if you aren't going for endgame. play the job you like and.. camp NMs that drop gears for it. its a given that better gear (most times endgame) opens more options through macro pieces and such. but! enjoy the time you have to play. in the wise words of a thousand before me.. gear doesn't make the player. but if it does um.. BLM. i could nuke in my taru pajamas and still blow ***up.

WHM is pretty good in that regard -- most of the R/E endgame gear for WHM isn't make or break. (Really, I only have a few pieces on mine that can't be bought and none that are essential to my basic job performance. Cleric's Briault is nice for regens and idling, for instance, but my Noble's is much more useful overall.)

Hauberk +1 is a fairly substantial downgrade and you're not getting any haste or an awesome Rampage piece off AH for legs. Monster Gloves are essential and drop in Xarc, Gaiters are also very nice... and the second best piece there is Suzy Feet. Without a Temperance Torque, you're using Bird Whistle for life, and Osode is pretty beastly, too. (Albeit, Osode is purchasable.) Umumum... Temperance Axe for Primal Rend and offhand period. The entirety of AF+1 (not so much body) is also great. Not technically endgame, but ACP and MKdT pieces are both extremely nice. (I still need them blaaaah.) So yeah, the margin between an AH BST and endgame BST is pretty significant.

BLM is a good option (although expensive), a good combination of AF and AH gear will get you a long way.
You won't be the best BLM ever, but you could do decent damage (especially if you have enough to buy HQ/Novio etc). That isn't to say BLM doesn't use/need rare/ex gear, there is some nice pieces in the AFv2, AF+1, Nashira, Oracle, Yigit and Morrigans etc that any self respecting BLM should want. I've seen DRK's on pandemonium with all AH gear and Apocalypse, guess who's been visiting brosale...
BLM is definitively the best.
HQ Staves Grips Phantom Thalum Demon helm+1 / or the enfeebling magic + 10 head elemental torque / Ugalephi pendant / enfeebling/dark torque Int+2 earrings (ok need to farm matt+5 earring but that is it) Genie weskit / Refresh body / your AF body covers enfeebling Ok Hands you need Z.mittend, but AF hands rock also a lot Int+5 rings / Sorcers ring Ixion cape Witch sash Int+8 pants Feet from AH are not great. you can get assault gear. so on 12/15 slots you use you can buy great gear from AH.
