It also only has 25% haste in gear, so of tradition holds true, its not capped and will require another piece of equipment with Haste to cap out

I swear they mentioned something about this and that everything after SoA, if it said 25% was actually 25% and was capped.

I might just absolutely be having a dumb though

Something something modern gear caps at 25%, old pre-i119 gear doesn't.

And everyone errs on side of caution something something.

Trying to pull a "SE said so-and-so" in a thread where were 8 pages deep over "SE said this armor is more powerful than Ambuscade equipment" is quite the play.

I was raised on 26% to hit the 25.333% value, and my brain will never be happy about 25% exactly.

Mostly just do it on accident since a lot of Good belts have haste.

I've seen this said before, but haven't been able to dig up the original source for it.

Anyone have a link to the testing, or dev post or update notes or...?

Its been posted thousands of times

Fairly enough finding it is unreasonably difficult despite that.

Spent 10 minutes, even AI can't find the god damn thing. when haste was changed from X0/1024 to X1~2/1024 in early 201X

All gear caps at 25%, or rather 256/1024.

Most gear also lies to you about the value. It is impossible to have an exact integer value that is 5% of 1024 as 1024 * 0.05 is 51.2. Whichever dev made that gear needs to type in 50, 51 or 52 into the value for that gears haste, all while putting "5%" in the string description field. If the dev put 50 into the effect field, then it will be 50/1024, 4.88% haste. If they put in 51 then it'll be 4.98, and 52 comes out to 5.07. All the older developers just did the route and put in "50" for 5%, or "30" for 3% and so forth, resulting in "25%" really being 24.4% (250/1024), which is under cap. Going "26%" meant 260/1024 and was over cap, which is preferable to under. Recent developers seem to put a more accurate value like 52 instead of 50, 103 instead of 100, making the description field more accurate.

I've explained it previously, for "reasons", FFXI server code doesn't do fixed point percentages, instead preferring to add / delete binary decimal places to create the effect while using just integers. It causes all percentage values to act in slightly off ways that what regular decimal math would predict.

That's not what I was saying.

Pretty sure at some point SE said they changed the description values to round up to 256/1024 when it says "25%", when previously it didn't.

I don't have a quote, but that's what I remember.

The value on the descriptions doesn't have to match what the maths does underneath. It's just a description.

There's a post. Its just *** impossible to find.

Detailed all gear from 2013 forward will be X1 instead of X0

13 years of *** to wade through and no one remembers as soon as the page changes anyway. Official forum searches only go back 20 pages. 2013 is hundreds of pages back.

They've all but accounted for the rounding or lack-of-capped-haste issues by adding Haste value to slots it never used to exist on in large amounts: Weapons, grips, rings, earrings, ammo (even augments) etc. You can even get away with using pieces of armor that have zero haste at all, like Adamantite Armor, Hjarrandi gear or Besieged Turbans, and still cap haste across sets. They throw a Haste+10% belt at you from TVR missions, just because.

You would have to wildly go out of your way or just be lazy to not cap gear haste with all of the options available now.

Didn't really make sense to change the calculation to me. You're still left below the listed value (even moreso in some cases).
