They are supposed to be vastly inferior
Are they though? They were originally supposed to not overtake real players, but we've seen some examples of pretty strong trusts - Val or AAEV are definitely better tanks than a mediocre player. The mages have some lacking casting logic, but they're WAY faster on stuff like prompt status removal or cures than your average newbie endgame mage.
I get that you don't want to totally overpower players, but you can buy Phantom Roll +3 for a trivial cost from an NPC. I feel like trusts matching that low bar is not very unreasonable. And I mean, still less than easily obtained player stuff like Barataria Ring (roll+5).
Or like... you really can't gift your trust friends an NQ Moonbow Whistle or equivalent for Song+2? Make it require the player piece too. Trusts are still in a much worse place than players due to limited or undesirable song selection, 2 song max (even mediocre players can get 3 songs easily with JSE instrument), short duration, etc.
I do think it makes some sense to require players to be level 99 to use trust equipment. Making it more like a merit-ish system once you already hit max player level, as opposed to something that could be too overpowered for leveling (trusts already wreck shop on lower level content, they don't need a buff for those purposes).
