I'm on windows 7 and measured the area above the taskbar, which is 1280x760 and set my background as the same, though if you want it to look better you could increase it by 10% or 25% until your computer starts to slow down then back up a step.
Your resolution is much larger than mine though, just saying what mine is /o/
but yea, Overlay Resolution controls the size of the window, background controls the background. If it's smaller it will start to loose quality and become blocky'ish after a certain point, but if it's larger it oversaturates and will make everything look a bit smoother and not so jagged. What exactly is the "background" I never really understood that? Is that like the menu/chatlog/etc resolution? or the actual game itself?

Grr, *** trapezohedrons. I've killed over 100 adamantoise and so far I've only gotten one to drop. Hell, even a large majority of the kills don't even yield a platinum ingot. Is it too much to ask to have my last three weapons at their ultimate level?

I usually farm the one at Leviathan Plaza in Eden since there is a save point right next to where it spawns. It's fairly easy to make it re-pop without having to travel far.
If I'm doing other things (farming 5 star ratings/other items) I'll farm in Archlyte Steppe, though if I'm only going for adamantoise I'm in the aforementioned place.

if i remember correctly the collector catalog and the connoisseur catalog have two different meanings...the connoisseur will prolly give u a better chance at the trap if im not mistaking so try a few fights just wearing the connoisseur...idk i sometimes get 4-5 platinums in a row..traps not so often ...what strat do us on taking them down?

According to everything I've read, the two catalogs stack thus increasing both the common and rare drop pool.
For the fastest kills, I'll alternate between the summon trick and death spam. The kill with death usually gives me enough TP to be able to summon again next fight. End up with a 5 star rating on every kill doing this for maximum rare drop rate percentage.

i did that for like 6 fights and it just wasnt consistent enough for me so i do the fang highwind to take out both of the legs and usually kill it in one stagger...takes me around 2-3 minutes tops

Most of my fights last about 1:30 with them going as long as 3:45 (best I can remember anyway). With Nirvana made from Belladonna Wand, Vanille's death usually sticks in no more than 5-7 casts. Though before I got her tier 3 weapon the death trick was painfully slow.

I've got two missions left to five star and they are being a pain in the ***. Even with the gold watch I only get a 4 star rating on both. Haven't really been focusing on the treasure hunter achievement.

Yeah that is true. I remember when I was little I put a full gallon of milk in the fridge which ended up exploding. My mom asked me what I was thinking and I said I wanted ice cream, so she make me eat all the frozen milk that was still in the jug. It was nasty.

I use mine alot... most of my games I play are on PS3 lol.
