Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?
By Seun 2026-06-20 19:49:04
Eh, I don't think that's gonna significantly discourage players from resorting to the "play dead" dumb theatrics, since they do them for tactical reasons (e.g. kill the other team's momentum... I'm not sure I understand why someone would attempt to break an opponent's momentum if it meant they had to play down a man. In fact, I'd go as far as calling it reckless unless you're in the championship with only seconds left in the game. Definitely wouldn't be as common as it is in league play. I think momentum in soccer is like tempo in chess and sente in go. It allows the player / team control over what happens next. Removing that option can be big.
In chess, it's like being able to remove one of your own pieces from the board for a certain number of turns in exchange for pausing the clock. Would GM Chanti do this to interrupt her opponents tempo?

She has other ways to interrupt her opponent.
And none of those ways are legitimate.

They don't have to, especially goal keepers. They can "play dead" just long enough to stop the game for a minute to get checked on (and then stand up), but not long enough to have to exit to receive treatment.

Is there a way on windows 11 to bring up all the taskbar tabs at once, like cascade used to
Like if I got 5 notepads minimized, one click open all 5 instead of one by one

And none of those ways are legitimate. Its been a LOOONG time since leaning over the board in a low cut top was a distraction.

Like if I got 5 notepads minimized, one click open all 5 instead of one by one I don't know but I suppose you could make a new desktop where you'd only need to arrange those windows once and then you could pull them up from the task bar with a single click. You'd probably have to repeat the arranging part every time you restart your machine, not sure about that either though.

Well, this week I noticed something like this. I didnt bother to reproduce, but I was working with two word (app) at once side by side, looking at one, then writing a new version in the other file.
Then I changed the focus, did something else and got back to work.
I noticed there was three options to restore the app: the first word, the second word or both at same time.
Maybe if the windows are close together the Windows consider they are a group to be worked together at same time.
EDIT: yeah, if the windows are close enough, the system will group them together to use simultaneously.

It's only goalkeepers, and during that time the other players can't gather on the sideline for coaching. It's not the functional timeout it once was and it's taking less time away from the game.
There is still room to tighten the screws if it remains problematic. You like the extra substitutions, but it's also a window to forced subs if players stop the game for injuries beyond a certain point...

That's what I get for assuming that a word meaning 'time' would actually have anything to do with the play clock.
Momentum in soccer is based on possession and pressure. Which team spent more time in possession of the ball on the opponents side of the field. You can't really use the same metric in chess because it's turn-based and possession alternates evenly. Material lead maybe?

If you have tempo in chess or sente in go it means that you have the option to play an unforced move. Hopefully one that forces a response therefore keeping tempo or sente.
Possession and pressure is really close.

It is annoying me how I hear scream in the street of people cheering for Cabo Verde (Im not sure how this name is speech in english and I wont bother).
Also, the "celebrity" status that the GK, Vozinha, earned.
Why I dislike that?
First because this syndrom of always rooting for the "weak", the underdog side. Well, you cheer for anyone you want, but in my book, being "weak" isnt a virtue.
Second is this Vozinha guy. Nothing against the guy, but it is just another manufatured celebrity by the big media. The same big media those idiots complain about, but when they say: "This story is SOB, cheer for him", then suddenly everyone's favorite is the guy, despite barely knowing a single thing about the guy.
Maybe Im being sour, but I cant help thinking those guys are just being manipulated to believe Cabo Verde and Vozinha are stories to be cheered.
I just think those stories are just a bunch of nothing.
By Pantafernando 2026-06-21 18:50:10
hehehe.
A crude translation of "Cabo Verde" to english would be "Green Cable".

It's not.
Literally an Egyptian player was on the ground just now. At least 2 minutes went by while checking on him before they decided to take him out for treatment. Sure, the Egyptian player isn't just "playing dead" because he was did receive a hit, but I also saw an earlier game stop for a minute to check on a player (don't remember which) that didn't result in him being taken out for treatment.

Virtue in sport? I didn't know you were that old panta.
I think a lot of people who are fans of a sport will cheer for the underdog because they don't want to watch a demoralizing blowout, they want to see a good match. Were you disappointed?

Anyone involved in contact doesn't need the benefit of the doubt. It's up to the ref to make the judgment call about how much time is reasonable for recovery based on the contact/foul and then add it to stoppage. I really don't think anyone should take issue with this.
"Play on" is the mantra of the game. Both the players and the rule should abide.

News about my project, I was doing my first run with PantonicVideo, unfortunelly I spent a lot of time fixing some pretty critical bugs there.
Dordo will have an orgasm when he read my failures, but my application was happily deleting all my data like nothing.
The reason was an auto save feature I asked to implement without carefully planning, and it was checking some empty lines, and deleting accordingly. The worst was opening a new file, and the app happily emptying all my 5h works...
I had some backup still I lost some time recovering the data plus intructing Claude how to deal with that. I just asked it to scope the auto save to the text and not to the other files.
It is a learning. Im not sure why people complain about "oh, AI will make developers dumber".
Definitvely no. Dealing with the errors and finding solutions to make the code better is a golden mine of opportunity to learn.
The thing is if you dont even try reasoning why the bugs happen and want to fix it with brute force.
But those kind of people will be dumb with or without AI, nothing is lost here.

Probably posts like this:
Pantafernando said: When I have a critical bug to fix, but i have no tokens left.
Asking AI to fix it for you and getting a vague idea what went wrong is totally different from understanding where it went wrong or the underlying code that caused it to go wrong.
By Althor 2026-06-22 10:35:31
it's like math with a calculator that charges you money when you input too many equations. not only can you not solve the question without it, you have to pay to be increasingly reliant upon it. then, for the cherry on top, all your work is stolen and sold to the next guy.
By Dodik 2026-06-22 10:41:46
It was never "your" work to begin with.
No, colleague, the code you had an AI do for you is not "your" work and nothing you say to make yourself feel better will change that.
By Althor 2026-06-22 10:53:59
I bet some people are fine with having zero authority over the stuff they make with AI, but I can't imagine that would last long if they made something useful enough to copy by someone else with much less effort while they receive no credit or compensation.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
