I'm lying in a hospital bed waiting for a hernia operation. I haven't eaten for 17 hours because you're not supposed to after 11pm the night before the operation. I'm starving and wondering if it would really be so bad if I ate a few crisps, and looking at takeaways I can order when I wake up after the operation but looking at food is making it worse ??
Best not to eat, the big concern comes out of aspirating vomit. this is an issues because of how the anesthesia effects your throat relaxing it.
It is considered a serious complication if it occurs, and can result in your death.
I am not sure how much eat actually increases the risk of it occurring but I would not die for some chips.
Paged!
