For most people weak minded people :D, it's very challenging to change habits, especially the older you get (and the longer you've adhered to them).

I don't have any problem getting rid of bad food like alcohol, McDonald's, instant noodles, sugar and hotdogs as I get older. I would even say getting older makes it easier. I ate a LOT more junk food when I was younger lol. I ate like 1 pack of instant noodle a day when I was a student....

The only bad food that I really have difficulty with is just coffee. But I drink 1/6 of coffee a day compare with 5 years ago. So that's still an improvement with age.

Stop underestimate older people's willpower!!!

long life isn't always the end game. now generally you might feel better doing healthy things that in turn extend your life expectancy, but some times you choose a better short term experience despite risks to longevity, especially if you are in a situation where you are in a lot of pain.

The "food" that people buy is insane. My wife and I make jokes that we only shop the perimeter of the grocery stores (produce & meat). Nearly everything in the aisles is insanely unhealthy. I watch people unload 15 frozen dinners from their cart and can't imagine living off that stuff.

The amount of people who just do not cook baffles me. I find cooking to be extremely relaxing, fun, and rewarding. In the past year my wife and I have learned how to make pizza doe, which lead to bread doe. Then we learned how to make noodles to go with the spaghetti sauce we already make from our small garden. We don't ever order pizza now because our homemade pizza is drastically better than any we can buy and it costs anywhere from $5 to $10 to make a 14" pizza depending on topings. We hardly ever eat out now because we can cook better meals for half the price at home.

The resources on YouTube to learn how to cook are unbelievable.

I would say mind reconditioning is a powerful tool to change habit, as it can alter brain perception of things and change how it functions. Such as producing dopamine for certain behavior or vice versa.

I used to love junk food and alcohol. However I've reconditioned my mind in a way that I feel junk food taste bad. That's how I quit junk food.

So, I didn't quit junk food because I stop myself from enjoying food, quite the opposite, I avoided junk food because my brain find them taste bad now.

I had the same experience with getting addicted and quitting FFXI. Years ago I somehow conditioned my mind in a way that whenever I collect a piece of COR(but not other jobs) gear I experience dopamine rush, I ended up getting addicted to FFXI because of it. Then when I quit FFXI I reconditioned my mind that playing new games and cycle them quickly give me dopamine rush, playing the same game all the time = not fun and no dopamine.

That's how I ended up quitting FFXI. Because my brain now reward me for doing something else that isn't playing FFXI.

I also used this technique to build a habit of reading one book per week some years ago. And it's still going now.

So it's really just the matter of thinking that change is good, and getting the brain to produce dopamine for change. I don't think age limits your ability to recondition mind.

If you haven't, try cooking it on a grill. We usually pre-heat the dough on the grill, both sides, use olive oil then add toppings briefly. It can be a little tricky but it adds a lot of good flavor compared to a normal oven IMO, especially if the grill is well seasoned.

I'll try that. I wanted to try deep dish in cast iron on my grill sometime.

I've already been scoping out yard space to build a pizza oven. I've always wanted a brick grill and adding an oven to it would be awesome. Something like this. Would be a ton of fun to build too.

Something like that would be a lot better, the grill is just better than a normal oven, but not as good as a dedicated pizza oven. Just be mindful of how long those can take to get up to temperature and the quality/moisture/type content of the wood.

Well, I've seen many older people at age 50 or even 80 change habit or learn new hobby np, some people even publish books on techniques on mind reconditioning and changing habits.

Pretty sure it's not a "me only" thing, just the difference between weak minds and not weak! You run into too many weak minds irl!

(I only use "me" as an example because it's easier and more detailed.)

In the long term everyone dies.

These are people in their 50s with young children and almost 300lbs bodyweight at under 6'.

Talking imminent risk here, not dying at 70 instead of 80.

If you want I can tell you what happened recently to another close relative in their 80s - it's pretty depressing.

And don't think the medical profession is immune to this - another close relative is a GP and has struggled with being overweight her entire life.

Suffice to say I've seen what happens when you don't take care of your body.

That was my dad, 4 kids under the age of 16 and >300lbs. There were a lot of things we couldn't do because he was overweight and made bad choices. He had a heart attack at 50 and nearly died, we found out later he had been warned by his doctor a few weeks before about his blood pressure, weight, and diet but he just couldn't come around to making changes. Even years later we pleaded with him to make changes and I can still remember things as a kid we wanted to do that we couldn't because of his weight.

Eventually there was a big event in my life and he couldn't participate because of his weight. After that he got his ***together and is still alive and *MOSTLY* healthy now.

What followed, though, has been on again/off again years where he had downstream problems. He spent weeks in/out of the cardiac ICU 2 years ago b/c his ICD replacement got botched and the dr sent him home too soon. We spent weeks running back/forth 2hrs as a result and it was extremely disruptive to everyone. He ended up living with us for a while b/c of various issues balancing his medication. I'm happy I could do it, but if he had taken care of himself then it would've been a non-issue and I'd have preferred that. He's on a cocktail of medications that's impossible to keep track of and was on blood thinners for a long time, which caused other issues.

I mean, I get it. It's hard when you have young children. There is crap food everywhere kids are. It's easy to fall into bad habits, stress eat, stress drink, etc. It's exhausting, your time is gone, etc but if you don't prioritize it then it'll catch up to you. It takes intentional effort and sacrifice at that phase of life and it's really hard to do. I have periods of time where I eat and drink like ***because it feels like the only thing I can control, but I do exercise so it helps balance it out until I snap out of it

My primary care physician built a pizza oven a lot simpler than that. He is a better and more dedicated cook than I.

It went approximately: mound of sand, covered in clay (IDK the type or the thickness) so it was igloo shaped. Cut an arched doorway, let it dry, scoop out the sand, fire it. Again IDK if the firing was inside only or covered too.

His biggest complaint. Whenever his kids want pizza he has to fire the oven up. Four seasons a year. And our seasons range from under 0 to over 100 F, -18 - 38 C.

I love cooking on my charcoal grill in the middle of winter. Keeps the beer nice and cold.

Been watching Gundam GQuuuuuuX every week on Amazon for quite some time. As a Gundam fan, I quite enjoyed the first 11 episodes, as well as reading the discussion in the Gundam community.

Until the last episode *** with my mind, made my brain melt, and distorted my perception of logic and common sense. Bandai created new standard for logic-less Deus Ex Machina in anime story.

Wtf with your Gundam crazy fanfic Bandai....wtf.....

They both mind *** people in the last episode and distorted people's logic, lol. GQu6X also has several cuts that is VERY Evangelion style. To the point that Hideaki Anno has to post clarification on his social media and tell people he didn't work on those Evangelion style shots.

The 3 main protagonists in GQu6X also feels like a different version of the 3 protagonists in Evangelion. The influence is real.

However, GQu6X's ending is probably less mind *** than OG Evangelion TV ending....just a little....

Man the problem is I can't stop myself from going too hard in the gym. I start doing something like overhead press, feels too good, end up doing a drop set to failure and can't wash my hair for 4 days because my arms no longer function.

Yeah, some scenes were straight out of Eva, particularly the girl sleeping in the cockpit.

The whole episode looked like the writing team were all huge Eva fans XD.

The OG TV show was.. something. And I don't believe what he says, the rumours back then were that they ran out of money and could not finish the final episode.

Though, im not having success on that.

Miss Homo narrans, we're talking population at large, en masse. For every person you cited as an example, we can find a 1000 others that are the exact opposite.
But I'll be sure to relay your anecdotes to the medical community policy makers to take them into account :)

When I heard it had alt timelines and ***, I immediately lost interest. Well, I lost interest in new Gundams long ago. They keep pushing the enveleope with the Newtype ***with every UC iteration (last I watched was Unicorn over 10 years ago) to silly levels, it became a standard UC ***happening at the final episode. So predictable.

As my friend (jokingly puts it), they should've stopped at Kamille's "girl necromancy" super powers and not gone any further (they've already gone too far by that point).

Excuse me, I didn't made a statistic statement about the percentage of weak minds in the population. I didn't say "majority (or X% of population) of people can do it".

I only made a statement about those people having weak minds. It doesn't matter if majority of people in the world are weak minds. I made no statement on the percentage.

Also, I would prefer you call me an elite people worshipper kthx ;)
