Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?

I'm writing stuff for my RPG, and it keeps underlining words like "armor" as wrong because I've chosen to use the British English dictionary. When I click on it, it offers me to change to "armour" or swap my dictionary over to the American English dictionary, for which "armor" would be correct. But if I do that, suddenly half of my other words are wrong, like "metre".
We're in this weird limbo situation where half of our words are spelled using one dictionary, and the other half are spelled using the other. And Google Docs doesn't offer me a compromise >_>;
Conversely, I am writing a few chapters of my current book trying to use British English. And it sucks. Like, *** you England, speak proper English. This is why we left.

I've stopped caring about other peoples' grammar and spelling. Honestly, the only reason why I want Docs to stop underlining these infractions is because they make me glaze over the times that I do misspell something.
Maybe when I'm publishing the final versions of my game, I'll print it in three different versions of English. Though I dunno if I can sell to the States anyway, given that I'm using the Metric system. I find it a lot easier to count grid squares in single metres than dividing by 5 feet as per D&D.
Sounds like you need localization teams! ;)

Not sure where to go after Liurnia of the Lakes. I thought maybe Caelid but the enemies there hit super hard. Surely it doesn't want me to go straight to the capitol? Leyndell seems like end game stuff. Maybe Caelid is right and I'm just a squishy, smelly, mage. Hmm
Spend some time leveling up, and head northwest to the Caria Manor, while staying in Liurnia. You should also be working on Varre's questline, he provides an amazing grinding location.

Oh, well in that case, yes do Varre's stuff all the way until the end.

Venti and Ayato drop in an hour and here I stand, missing a single element for archers to have them all collected with no primos

Happy International Piano Day (the 88th day of the year)! However, I did always want a Bosendorfer Imperial, the largest piano ever made- those puppies have extra keys that while rarely needed, the sympathetic resonance that happens from the extra low notes gives a Bosendorfer a richer and deeper sound than any Steinway you'd ever find!
....its just gonna cost you about 200 grand and a multi-year waitlist.....sigh...

Sympathetic resonance? Whoever hears me play one would need all the sympathy they can get.

I thought Canadians operated under some strange mix of metric/imperial? ie if length is something traveled, its metres, but if its something human-scale, its feet.

r before e doesn't make any sense, and all of those unnecessary u's. I actually agree. American English is a lot simpler - in a good way. We should take it even further. Like, what the heck is with the 4 silent letters waiting in line for "queue"? And way too many people seem to mix up they're/their/there and they can't be used interchangeably anyway so why not just use "theyr" or something for all three?
Leviathan.Celebrindal said: »I thought Canadians operated under some strange mix of metric/imperial? ie if length is something traveled, its metres, but if its something human-scale, its feet. It's true, but it's definitely not by choice. As a country we're strictly Metric, but industries that work closely with the States hold onto Imperial to hopefully keep from more tragic incidents occurring. But no, having to memorize arbitrary numbers for division is a huge pain in the ***. I give it a score of 0-out-of-5280, would not recommend.

For parts of a car ... Boot & bonnet are supposed to = trunk & hood. BUT many English use boot as the rear cover and bonnet as the front cover no mater what is underneath them.
When England still used imperial units their volume units, pints etc. were not the same as America's. Nor were their tons.

Professionally, most jobs too will use Metric for most of their stuff. Though mechanical workers need a set of both Metric and Imperial tools depending on where the parts are imported from. Most commercial or federal construction are Metric, while most residential construction is still done with Imperial.
I'd be so happy if I could run my software with Metric more often. My brain takes way too long to mentally calculate something like, I dunno, the mid-point of a floor. 11 7/8" joist plus 23/32" subfloor plus 1 15/16" concrete topping, divide by 2. Uhhhhhhhh.... (Jessie.exe has stopped working)

It could be worse.
I have owned British cars and bikes. Somewhere I STILL have whitworth and British standard wrenches.

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
