That's because you generally prefer Manga.
And half the time the issue with the anime is that seasons or follow ups fall under new titles, or semi new titles, as the restart of the same series.

Not really, it's just weird that you say "season 3" for Kenichi when it only ran once and had 50 episodes.

the 50 episodes were split between season 1 and season 2. 26 and 24 episodes respectively.
There is now a season 3 that's released an additional 11 episodes so far.

They are listed as OVAs on the free anime sites, but they are actually episodes following the story, the way the original 50 episodes did.

OVAs are direct-to-video though, not shown on TV like the normal stuff and usually bundled with the series itself.

Another thing you can probably blame on 'Murica.
It bothers me a bit too, but at least having some sort of organizational structure (whether you call it a season or arc is irrelevant to this point) you have a better way of organizing it.
I mean for one of the longer ones having hundreds of episodes dumped in a folder is a bit rough to keep track of where you're at if you're not watching daily.

It's easy if you group them in folders of 10 or so episodes but I wouldn't call it a season or arc since they don't air them in seasons and arcs are usually longer than 10 episodes.

The last series I had downloaded had them separated into the arcs and labeled them seasons, and 10 is too few for my tastes, 25~ would be a better # imo. Mostly because I like to binge watch.
edit: to be fair, I've been having a habbit lately of cutting out filler episodes, not really the ones where the battles take too long, but the entire filler arcs, like the Bound in Bleach, Or the last however many episodes of Naruto the anime was before they rebranded it.
