don't even need yigit anymore to hit -50%, do it like this:

Furia/Ebur/Ebon Tam 5% FC
Furia/Ebur/Ebon Talar 5% FC
Veela Cape 2% FC
Rostrum Pumps 2% FC
Loquacious Earring 2% FC
Minstrel's Ring -25%

and this takes you to -51% which caps out to 50%. So you don't NEED any of these pieces, these days -50% casting time can be hit with a number of combinations of gear.

i would say at least some of that is harder to get than yigit body.

minstrel's ring might be more trouble than it's worth, if you sub whm (and don't use spellcast) or spend a lot of time around undead. still a nice piece for meriting; personally i didn't bother, but i cheap out on jobs like whm and brd.

but at the end of the day, a brd without any -casting time can do his/her job.

I see brd as one of the least gear dependant jobs once you have full merits in wind/singing

Yar lol. Gear enhances it, and lets you hit the highest tiers of songs, but once you have all the relevant instruments and the basic 500/100 debuff set it's pretty good to go.

It's nice how every piece added does make you better though.

meh you dont really need all that, hell you dont really need yigit or sha'ir to pull chains off 200+ in a merit, i dont have any and i can. i only have minstrel's ring for spell casting- it does me, i dont use minstrel's in LS events tho.

Save ya gil and dont bother with sha'ir if you cba doing all the assaults dont bother with yigit, get Minstrel's Ring

and you just wanted to spend merits wherever. 42 merits for less than 1% extra haste on victory march is a lot imo.

I have Sha'ir Manteel and use Minstrel's Ring with it. Firing off a song at 43% is pretty noticeable. I guess you could get Yigit Body but in the end I don't see 3-4m being that difficult to get. Unless you don't know how to get money I guess. Depends on your priorities. If you spam the hell out of assaults and do them each and every moment you can, manteel is far more worthy of your time.

Imo theres no need for Sha’ir body & minstrel ring to be a good brd. of course its BETTER and BLAH and if its your main you wanna max it out anyway. other than that, yigit is more than ok.

How do you solo an assault? Don't you need at least 3 people to enter?

I honestly don't know what i'd do if I had to wait till 100% for songs to go off anymore. I just don't think i'd have time to do everything I need to do in a merit party:

Melee songs
Ballad for mage
search for mobs to pull

rinse and repeat. Besides, its nice having an extremely low activation time on the song, meaning, my elegy lands much quicker than the opposing pulling bard in a neighboring camp (I like to pull any colibri I can from bottom or top camp since we run out of them easily) so having maxed -song casting really helps.

then again, I could just take the easy way (my favorite) and do Blu burns, where all I need to do is sing ballads.

In the end, you really don't NEED much gear to be an effective bard. With a G-horn, you're pretty much relegated to Ballad duty anyways in the HNM scene, since that is really the only thing that makes G-horn stand out. If you can keep songs on your party members, and can handle sleeps and such when necessary, you'll be fine. I have to admit, in all my time in playing, i've seen REALLY bad PLDs, REALLY bad RDMs, REALLY bad WHMs, REALLY bad <insert job here> but I don't think i've ever seen a REALLY bad end game bard - some substandard ones, but not REALLY bad.

you don't see brds who think that having another brd means they pull nonstop (faster than the DDs are killing), even when the party is dying? and then they cast horde lullaby and stand next to everyone?

or brds who ballad the whole party most of the time?

If you've never seen a shitty bard then I can honestly say that you have never played ffxi. There are more shitty bards than all the other jobs added together.

I've seen alot of shitty bards. bards that did not Ballad the mage even though he wasint pulling... that would overwrite my occasional Trouba + songs... ugh.... And thats just in x2 BRD pt's... dont get me started with what kind of bards i see pulling in other parties ... x_x

I love being the second brd in a 2x brd party lol. You ballad, 2x song and help debuff, so much less work than fishing lol.

makes me hella bored after like 20 min and i start feeling sleepy <.< . but i dont like playing brd anyway =)

I just wanted the opinions of different people on different gear.

unless you buy gil, gil will take time to make...

if you have friends to assault with, or access to characters to enter with, it will probably be faster to do yigit. assuming 1k AP per assault (it'll be more) and the full 30 min per assault, it'd take ten hours over a period of time. if not, and you don't want to shout to do stuff with random people, then you don't have much of a choice.

if you can make the gil in less than ten hours, manteel would be easier to get. but if you really want a manteel, then there's really no point in asking.

I personally spammed Private Ryaaf + Shooting down the baron, always with 2 others. Was done pretty quick. Ok, shooting down the baron was annoying as hell sometimes :<
