a. /nin (shadows up), do not need TP; or
b. are kiting?

Well I know you tried to exclude it, but you wouldn't tp well in it and if you are tanking /nin. You are almost always tping. Kiting wise I guess it would work but i kite in enmity or damage -

I like my Ixion Cloak on brd :) I don't merit or anything though that needs super fastcasting of songs.. Have Yigit/Loq/Rostrum/rdm though for zerg rounds... that's plenty fast than spending millions for -2% more.

Personally, I never gave two shits about bard, but I went and got a Sha'ir cause gil is pathetically easy to get on Ragnarok, the 7CHR help out a lot with sleeps if you merit a lot, prior to getting shadow coat, its 'okay' to use for debuffs, although Mahatma Houppelande / Kirin's Osode would be better because it has slightly more CHR, but you should really aim for about 120~125CHR then focus on M.acc/Sing/Wind skill for debuffs, which is easy to get with Sha'ir Manteel full time, the only real time it comes in handy to use something else is for HNMS but still.

also, 2% casting speed, helps out more then you could ever imagine, especially with rotations, if you can cap that out while /whm in events, your golden.

@ Mordekai: When not engaged, if no Ares, should be idling in either V/R Cloak or a Dmg Down body - depending on the mob's moves and your MP situation.

On topic though, I agree. Sha'ir > Yigit, there's no arguing the point. Is it ~3-4M better? That's up to the player. is Hauby+1 ~2-3M better than an nq? etc etc.

Shair is better hands down, if you can afford it go for it, I used to have one and the difference wasn't that big really, so I just sold it in the end and went for Minstrel's, since all shair is really good for is merit.

minstrel's good if it breaks a tier for songs. yigit is good if minstrel's won't break a tier. if you're filthy rich and feel like blowing several mil on a manteel, go for it. odds are you won't notice the difference between 10% and 12% casting time, but you will notice the difference between 0% and 10%.
