You can make intelligent gear choices on a budget, I did that for a long time, BUT I knew what I needed to get to improve and I worked towards that.

Even if you can afford it, it's not worth spending the money on if there's something else you can buy that will benefit you more than what the hauby gives. If there isn't, go get the damn hauby.
