The ring is a good hybrid TP piece but 5% crit with no base stat isn't head turning for VS or Evisc.
This was basically two trap accessories (mantles) and two good accessories that are a bit more useful at R30 than base.

Absolute garbage all around for SMN.
Pets continue to live off seemingly obligatory acc/racc/macc, heres hoping later gear gets some pet stuff that isnt fighting for a different aug line

God forbid they just did "Includes pets" on the gear

Does Alabaster Mantle beat out the other Ambuscade WSD capes? I have Chichol's Mantle STR+30, accuracy+20, WSD+10% already so I don't see it sacrificing some STR and one WSD point?
By Nariont 2025-09-14 22:43:45
It might be slightly better than an ambu cape if the WS has a str+dex mod, which off the top of my head would be something like tachi mumei or maru kala. But it wouldnt be by much and it comes at a cost of no PDT/DT aug line, which can be pretty rough.
By Elad 2025-09-14 22:51:15
I for one am thrilled to know my wyvern's ranged attacks will be more accurate and cannot wait to rank it up!
Unrelated: anyone know what I should do if I hit my head real hard?

Really an awful lot of grinding for something that may be slightly better for 2 prime weapon skills. I'll grab it because I have a few jobs I occasionally hop on for super charging that I haven't made a WSD cape for and it's great for that. But it's a weird catch 22 of being a time saver but would take at least a few months for a reasonable person to complete....in the mean time 3 capes a month from ambu. Really wish it had vit and agi on it as well. I think just that at 15 would add so much more value to it, as a lesser cape you could use for less common weapon skill mods.

Was thinking more for Savage Blade (important WS!)

Savage blade is str/mind so it's not good for it compared to ambuscade cape

Alabaster Earring seems like the clear winner, actually really good earring.
Murky Mantle may be interesting? I'd like to see some sims on like lower tier nukes and helix spells.
The other two are meh, the Alabaster Mantle could be an inventory saver, but I believe it should be worse than any ambuscade cape.

The enmity -10 on the cape kinda kills it.
Maybe, but you can be creative. All Jobs WSD cape that comes with -10 enmity that you can build off of. Make "All jobs-enmity reduction" WS sets, for times when you want to generate reduced hate on WS (Novia Earring, Kuchekula Ring, etc). I've used a variant of sets like this for certain ambu fights in tandem with High Jump. Not an amazing stat, but it has a use if you're into that kind of set building.

As always, SE gets something 95% correct for something to be amazing QoL improvement, and than they pull this ***. And yes I understand what about all of that work over the years to make all those capes... *** THOSE CAPES, I want my inventory... even with all wardrobes its still not enough space.
Should of been...
30 Acc/Racc
25 Atk/Ratk
20 to all Attri
10 DT or MAB.
The amount of JSE capes you would of been able to drop would of been outstanding.

For years people have been complaining that they have too many ambuscade capes, citing all the inventory space they're wasting rebuilding the same cape over and over for every job as one of the modern era's biggest annoyances. Many many many times over the years people have said "Why can't s-e just release an all jobs weaponskill cape. It would save so much inventory space! It doesn't have to be stronger or even as good as an ambu cape, just close (and yes, that's been said plenty of times)"
Now s-e releases an alternative weaponskill cape that's almost as good as an ambuscade cape and everyone's rioting because it isn't stronger than every ambuscade WSD cape they have in their wardrobe simultaneously. It's just "pretty close". Seriously, do you guys wanna save inventory space or not?
Now I fully understand what the difference between 1 WSD versus 15 or 30 secondary stat does to weaponskills. I understand how agility and vit modded weaponskills are left out. I get why you would choose to keep using ambuscade capes over this. I just find the severity of the negativity towards it funny; how people are so sudden to shift their tune from "Give me my space back for a piece that's almost as good" to "No, now I want to have my cake and eat it too! If it isn't the best in slot cape for every WSD situation its trash and I don't want it!" It's not that bad of a cape, and if you want a utility piece that can spare you 10-15 inventory slots.... now it finally exists whereas before it didn't.
I'm still picking the earring for my project. I've always been fine carrying around a few extra ambuscade capes, and an all stats -dt weaponskill earring alone is enough to make me want it. The fact that it's an amazing tp piece to boot... it's just so good! But the cape certainly isn't terrible, although it's definitely a lot better for str and dex modded weaponskills.

Think the issue with the WS cape isnt that its maybe a shade under ambu capes... its the amount of effort you'd need to expend to get something that's a shade under what you already have. Maybe 30 matters isn't gonna be that much. See what the weekly average is. Then its down to how many units it is per rank. Id like to think you should be able to earn more units than it would cost to upgrade with 30 matters... but who knows. And if +5s come out down the road, those are gonna be costly. Earring tho easy easy winner.

This is perfectly valid. I can agree with that. For a 3 to 6 month project I want to work towards an upgrade rather than a space saver. Guess that's why we're all really in agreement on the earring.

STG I'm dropping all off my STR or DEX WSD ambu capes across my jobs once I finish this, and never looking back. This is a blessing.

yeah honestly the only not so great piece here is the magic cape it seems?
im just really hoping they introduce a better way to get the points? even just for equipment upgrading it can kinda be a pain - i don’t mind the fact they want this to be the content we grind for sometime - just don't want the dang upgrade paths to be a huge amount of pts when a full set of armor is 100k
i am grateful they are at least adding something. i find the NM fights really fun despite the fact they give nothing.
if the other set of NMs they add along w CL150 give reasonable rewards i think this will be pretty fun content

The point/gear upgrade grind can be made easier if they allow NMs to drop units commensurate with your contribution, and matter direct drops from NMs. Also, killing the Limbus mystery NM should reward bonus units or some status effect (like awakening) similar to killing the final wave 1 mob in DI

I think these items and the augments would have gone over a lot better had they not had an absurd grind associated with them.
You could make every augmented ambuscade cape you wanted in the time it will take you to finish one of these.

They had a "solution" for the Ambu capes and that was to release "all jobs" empty capes that you can augment the same way.
Wouldn't have worked for every single job (some capes have specific stats on them, before the augs) but would've worked perfectly for the majority of situations.
Here you have a cape that has inferior stats, one stat slots that's semi wasted, another that should've been "all stats+" not STR/DEX and last but not least will require a gazilion of time/dedication to fully augment, time taken away from augmenting other options that look very interesting (ring/earring) and taken away from augmenting additional AF/Relic +4.
So... I think it's pretty understandable that some people are disappointed?
And I was talking about the WS cape specifically, which is still not too bad in the end. Now looking at the magic damage cape...
Anyway, I'm loving Ring and Earring.
A bit confused by the 5% crit on ring. It's... not bad, but I kinda wish it could've been something else.

Honestly the most disappointing thing to me here is the names. Alabaster and Murky? Come the duck on. Be creative.

Yeah SE tends to make things in a way that gives expansion opportunities. Copper/Silver Vouchers can yield Gold/Platinum potentially. Mars/Venus Orbs can lead to Jupiter/Saturn Orbs....but with Alabaster/Murky ... I got nothing :/

It’s a nod to the limbus zones the event they come from is based on. Alabaster is a shade of off white, akin to milky white, or cream white. It’s representative of temenos. Likewise murky is an off shade of black, akin to foggy or cloudy dark. It represents Apollyon.
I don’t see any mystery in the naming conventions at all. It may not be that creative or interesting, but it’s logical if nothing else.

...nobody said anything about mistery? It's just boring. FFXI has always been extremely lore-heavy, but this new developmental direction eschews that completely.
Gimme, dunno, Acropolis Mantle and Hieron Ring, Necropolis Mantle and Thanatic Ring. It's still formulaic, but less so. Make it sound lore-y. Dammit.

I'm not rioting because the new gear isn't perfect.
I'm rioting because the augments are ***compared to the work needed to get them.

It will get better as the level goes up (more points/hr).
I still think this is a very bad design though, an error they did with Sortie already (Galli being shared between Primes and Empy) and I was honestly hoping they wouldn't have done again.
There were so many different approaches to fulfill their goal (making sure people feel involved in Limbus for a long time instead of dropping it after 2 months) but also keeping it a simple event for relaxed people.
The convoluted gating they created for weekly points was very, very, very interesting.
Shame they didn't get that creative again.

It depends when/if +5s come out and how much those cost.
Spending limbus points on augments or gear is not as bad as Sortie, given the cost of the +4s, and that you will likely run out of armor upgrades to spend points on by the time you get enough matter for the augments.

Now that I have your attention, if you're reading this message AND have any of the 4 items augmented to at least rank 1, please come to the windower discord so you can help mine the rest of the augments - we can have them in no time but we need to see one real life example.

Once we have the tables, I will edit this post with them for real.
Thanks!
