New Games Suck... Or Is It Just Me?

Pretty much every western developer has become hated over the past 5-6 years, are incapable of making good games anymore and have alienated their fanbases. All we make is memberberry porn, everything else is sanitized slop.

GTA 6 is going to sell tens of millions of copies, based of nothing but people loving GTA5. It's going to be guaranteed crap, and we all know it will be crap because Rockstar is the same as every other western studio. It has filled itself with DEI hires, is fully captured by woke ideology and share holder pandering is rampant. It will be full of insufferable woke nonsense, it will have 1/4 the content of GTA5, there will be no freedom to do anything and the writing will be millennial cringe.

GTA6 will do more to empower the asian game industry long term than anything they do themselves, when your most powerful warrior fails and your competition is making bangers for cheaper you're just converting more and more of the mass game audience over to non western made games.

Western made games used to be cool, now they are cringe and lame.

The west simply can't make good AAA games anymore, we have no creativity because everyone is afraid. All we can make is CoD, fifa, madden 12, 20, 30 or remakes and remasters of games when we used to be good at this.

The most valuable asset we still have is brands, brands from when we used to make good games (and this should tell you all you need to know how far the western video game industry has fallen). China have few brands, so they have to make their games be good now. Since they hire the best people, and have no woke investors to pander to they just simply do what everyone knows works. The west cannot do what they know works, so they keep farming losses.

I can't think of one western game I'm hyped for, GTA6 is the only one you can pretend will be good and it's going to suck and be a massive disappointment.

Actually I can think of one, but only one. The new Doom game, which again is a 20 year old brand.

I still have many western new titles that I look forward to, admittedly most if not all of those titles are more AA/indie game than AAA.

I am not really a fan of AAA style games anyways, mainline FF is pretty much the only AAA games that I'd be interested. So it's your problem if you find AAA games represents all of gaming industry. Most of AA or indie game has way more interesting themes, gameplay and creativity than AAA.

If you only ever play AAA games, then you'd miss a lot of interesting experience in video games.

I think people confuse "interesting plot" with "likable characters doing typical plot". Like you said there really are only a couple of stories types in the world, everything else is just permutations and twists on those stories. It's the characters we fall in love with, the chemistry and interaction between them is what drives us to care about the story in the first place.

That is why western (and some eastern) companies injecting woke nonsense into the characters has such a negative effect. The characters have to be both likable and relatable for players to invest into it.

If carpenters were treated the same way as game developers, they would be hammering in nails with marmalade and cutting wood with singing. We have all these well established tropes in story telling, that work and are loved by men and women yet because gender ideologues find them offensive game developers and all writers are pressured to not use them.

We are utterly destroying our own industries because some potato people can't accept reality of male and female psychology.
