Always sell it first.

Depends if you actually need that much gils. Following that rule in a long run, only make this game feels more like a job. I did like 30 Odyssey R15 already, all self farmed and I also try to lvl MM even when its not really needed for anything (I do it for fun, because mixing killing NMs with farming chests and killing Nostos actually make Odyssey much more entertaining). Basically I treat the game like its a game. I already have too many REMA and jobs to actually even use everything. I havent used 75% of my REMAs in 2020. If I would follow your rule and make even more gils and buy even more REMAs and gear even more jobs it would be only for achievement sake, because I wouldnt be able to use 90% of it, not to mention no inventory space.

I've been selling the first couple weeks. Once the price drops I buy all the items I need and farm MM for fun. Chest farming is very lucrative but damn is it ***for content.

The could really turn this content around fast:

Put a boss in A,B,C,D(assumed to be coming) that unlocks rank20 or 25 for REMA. MM would help solo or low man groups finish the boss.

They could even extend it like said boss drops an item and you need 50 to unlock.

A - Relic
B - Mythic
C - Emp
D - Aeonic

Not really, I mean it's not even about the gil. It's simple time management.

Instead of "self farming" 200 runs, you could've sold 100 Runs worth of drops and spent the time the additional 100 runs lost doing something more fun than keying boxes. Keying boxes (in excess of what it takes to cap MM) should not qualify as fun... Nor should Odyssey in general... Unless earning gil is fun, then you've gone full circle back to being double "wrong".

Thats the point tho. You will focus to optimize the farming runs completely towards getting most stuff to sell it, to save time to do something fun. Sounds good in theory, but in practice you end up doing 100 unfunny boring runs instead of 200 relaxing and potentially entertaining runs. I would rather focus to make those 200 runs great, by mixing what the event has to offer. It will take longer, but I can actually enjoy the process.

Also what exactly would you consider as something fun, when almost every aspect of this game can be turn into being optimized to make more gils faster. Ofc there are people who has the most pleasure from just getting the most gils, because they are RMT, collectors or scrooges :P

What I define as fun; different game with time saved (or literally anything that isn't XI)

200 hours of Oddysey or 100 hours of shitty mode Odyssey and 100 hours of... "something better than XI"

Sheol C:
Got MMXIV after 950 nostos kills.
Got MMXV after 1500 nostos kills.
No direct upgrade from the aurum strongboxes because nostos kill count was still low after opening 16.

The small HP/MP bonuses trusts get with MM are due to their level being increased.
I checked with ArkEV.
Lv HP MP
120 2124 1083
121 2136 1087
122 2148 1093
123 2160 1098
124 2172 1104
125 2185 1108 (MM30)
126 2197 1114
127 2209 1119
128 2221 1125 (MM45)

They gain 6 levels at MM30 and 9 levels at MM45 (1 level up every 5 MM?).
MM doesn't appear to stack with the Filled memory gem, whichever gives the highest level increase seems to take priority.
MM45 also gives -30% DT to trusts.

Which only have sense in your case of playing this game to RMT gils and have no sense at all for anyone playing this game for fun.

I wonder if Mnejing is considered Automaton for DT cap settings and how MM -DT stacks with Mnejing's passive -37.5%DT

EDIT: Keep in mind ARK EV also has base -10% DT.

It is additive with their innate DT. ArkEV has -40% and Mnejing -67% DT inside.

NICE! I was worried it would be capped at 50% if it's additive.

Trusts have some pretty crazy MDB/MEVA at high MM levels. This is me in one of my standard DRK sets (like 46% mdt, average MEVA), compared to my trusts at MM40:

Btw are the pre reqs for MM for each sheol already mapped?

I could as well later draw a route for fast increase relatives to trips, aka, hitting the fast objectives for each zone before coming back and hitting the longer one. So people that never did odyssey can catch up with some minimal amount of MM as fast as possible.

I think all the zones are the same objectives to some degree, with the exception being Nostos kills seems to have a large influence in C vs the prior 2 zones, and the NM kill varies between the three zones. To the point you make, you are only able to gain 1 MM level per visit to Odyssey, though. But you can set up objectives in such a way that you can get successive upgrades each run.

I don't think that's the case, I would like to see a screenshot of that or someone else to confirm. Nobody here has mentioned it before either from what I've seen. And I have never gone up two MM levels in one run, especially where I specifically set up my NM kills to be one away on several NMs. I only got one MM increase per run even though I had the requisite amount of NM kills.

I think what happens is if you happen to meet the criteria for two objectives, you get an increase for the first objective threshold you meet, and then your subsequent entry you have to complete a secondary objective to gain the level you would have gained on the first entry. I've actually seen it several times, where I got MM increase for killing a random monster and the Nostos count was not anywhere near a logical count objective, on the second run.

It should be really easy to test if it's possible

I dont think thats unlikely to earn MM from chests and nostos kills on very early stage but this is just happening once, if it even happens.

Easy test. Odyssey A. Bring fresh characters with no MM, BLU cleave Floor 1 with Cruel Joke. THF opens all chests in zone, kill 3-5 NMs. That should be enough to clear 2-3 objectives, so if you don't get an increase you know it's not possible.

I just got 10 segment points each for opening chests in sheol C, 25 points for each nostos kill on floor C-1, and 31 for each nostos on floor C-4. On a run mostly to get coffers for skillup on THF i got 247 points total. I am on MM36 in case that has any effect on points (probably not).
I'd guess NMs and Agon might be most of the points but I have not tried that yet.
The rewards seem terrible, just buying scales you can more easily get as drops? Maybe it's to encourage having alliances and full parties instead of soloing since points would be shared, but I hope they add some reasonably good items to buy soon.
Btw they *still* have not fixed the Sheol C report for NM names and chest counts.

Also I think I leveled up twice in aa single run before and checking report later, since it happened more when I got independently 2 goals (eg, say I had 6x,6x,5x repeated NM kills, and killed a NM for the 6x,6x,6x goal, but also killed some nostos and it was at one of those thresholds).
It's just more rare because if you solo you can't get as easily things like NM wins and coffer count up in the same run.

Sheol A was 5 points on floor1 mobs/tier 1 chests on any floors. Mimics gave zero.

Points from mobs seemed to go up 2 per floor, 5 on first floor, 7 on second, 11 on fourth. only MM7

Indeed, at this rate of conversion, maybe its best just to store the currency in case in the future they add unique rewards.

Probably the mats prices are that high because they arent meant to be exchanged in the end, its just an figurative option.

ran C solo popped all boxs got 10 segment a box didnt get any coffers but I assume you get more for those. Killed mobs on first floor would randomly get 25 segment a kill like 1 out of 3 mobs. Killed stuff on 4th floor got segment ever time but it was 31 segment instead of 25. I am also going to assume you get a nice bit more for NMs.
all in all got 660 segment solo killed 10 mobs first floor 10 mobs 4th all boxes had 2 mimics no segment for those 111 wings.

Sheol B is 7 per chest, 10 per coffer. Almost got a chance to see Aurum, but then it was a super badly placed mimic that ate 11 keys.

Sheol C with 4 beastmen groups killed, 2 chest/coffers and 1 aurum grants 3980 segments.

C-2: 27, 510
C-3: 29, 570
C-4: 31, 630
Chest: 100
