"12~14 more repetitions" and most of them are useless trash. I will concede that some of these are collateral damage of the job being useless, but I triple dog dare you to lie to me and tell me this list is godawfully wrong.

List isn't crazy, I really only see a couple additional arguable inclusions based on their relative strength for their (decidedly non-meta) jobs, like Aymur or Kenkonken.

But Vyre's point remains, each of the REMA categories still has more worthwhile weapons to build than the maximum of TWO Ergons. Fair enough, does put a little more of a damper on the potential excitement/utility of a campaign. I do find it true that I'll be more interested in hoarding other REMA mats and sending them to a mule for my next silly project, or I might have some interest in a campaign that speeds up any part of those processes. But I have much less interest in campaigns that make any part of the Ergon process shorter or HPB more accessible, since I already have both Ergons on my main.

Yeah, ultimately most of this is just down to currency anyhow and can just buy what you need by doing whatever event is currently the most efficient way for you to make gil, but I still have more emotional attachment to like, an extra stack of HMPs (I can put those toward some ridiculous future Empy!) than I would a stack of HP Bayld that I no longer have any uses for except converting it to cash. (But wouldn't it be nice if they did campaigns that gave double Nyzul tokens or Einherjar Ichor, or OMG a campaign that gave you double credit for each WS/kill for Mythic/Relic Magian Trials...)

Anyway, don't listen to me, I made a Nagi (I love it too).

I don't think the other ongoing MMOs (some of which are even older than FFXI) have issues in causing "FOMO" in their users, they just do it with a flexible approach and not this bloody *** dreaded annoying "you gotta login every day" thing SE has forced up our soggy *** for the past 5+ years.
WoW weekly and monthly gates things to force extra subs, and doesn't care about DAU's. It also has a cash shop...

It's honestly worse than how FFXI does it because you run out of content by Tuesday then have jack ***to do until Mondays reset.

At least you can run content daily for progression in FFXI, in other MMOs like WoW you get progression once a week. It sucks, hard.

I'm sorry guys, I was the one who requested a way to get an additional plate for Sortie. I wanted to be able to do 3 in a day when my ruspix was up so I could go with my friends, then go with my mules and then when I was drunk enough go in with some pug for shits and giggles. Let's do moarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr platessssssssssss yaaaaaaa!!!!

I have one too, and some other dumb mythics just for the sake of having them.

They have 30+ years of understanding MMO psychology.

That daily fomo ***works on p2w and addiction based games. GenZ/Alpha don't play with that ***.

It works on you though. Always will too, even though you know exactly what they're doing and why. The rare handfull of you that break away and/or stop putting up with it are an extreme minority.
It makes no sense.
I gave you $13, there's no way to extract more money out of me,no battle pass, no cash shop, nothing. There's no reason to want me to log in daily.

It's more profitable for them if I never log in but keep paying my sub.
It’s for metrics to justify to their bosses about how the game isn’t dead The more characters, the more they can spin things to their bosses by not mentioning they’re counting mules/etc.

Outing myself as the weirdo here, Kenkonken was my first Mythic lol. It's so very PUP indeed.

But I'm gonna take this opportunity to share the good word of my lord and savior of "huh, I guess I made that REMA":

/soapbox on

When I made Nagi, I did it while saying I thought it was one of the worst REMAs and was just doing it to collect all the NIN things. But once I had it, IDK, I've turned around on it a lot and I really do think that's a little bit of an outdated way of thinking and Nagi is better than people give it credit for these days. Some factors that help Nagi:

(1) Nyame having made hybrid katana WS a lot more viable than in older days. That's great for Nagi, since Mythic AM3 can proc on WS and on Chi/Teki/To that's great. Aeonic is still best for hybrids, but Nagi is a solid second place and it's closer than you might think, and that's relevant for NIN highest potential damage WS (when hybrids are viable, they're easily NIN's best).

(2) Aligns well with other more modern gear like Malignance giving STP (great for Mythics in general, and helping Nagi be a real TP generation beast) along with defensive stats that can be useful when playing NIN more like a tank or tanky DD.

(3) Nagi's Enmity+ also aligns perfectly with that kind of tanky style. And for anyone who, like me, got a Yagyu Darkblade, that's a great offhand pair for excellent enmity generation with respectable offense (and less of a hit to DPS as switching to the Su5 katana).

(4) It looks f'ing awesome. But it always did that. Even if not using it, you can lockstyle it though.

(5) Macro piece to get free RR and erase weakness? I find real use for that more often than I'd like to admit! (and you only need the lv75 version for that, woohoo!)

Now, to be fair, if I was advising any new NIN which weapons to prioritize, it would be to get the Aeonic if that's available to you. It's just the best pure DPS, works great both for hybrids and physical (Blade: Ten), never a bad choice. But beyond that... Nagi's prob the next best mainhand katana! That's my take!

And it's more fun to play with. I get more joy playing NIN with Nagi/Yagyu tossing shadows on my friends while tanking and WSing away (got to break that out for Qutrub Ambu recently to great effect, even got to see Blade: Kamu for 99999 hahahaha) than most stuff in FFXI these days. And I look awesome doing it.

The only metric that matters is the 12.95 per month though. Money is the one metric that matters.

If their shareholders are woo'd by playercount metrics, then they're *** idiots, because the playercount metrics are going to be inflated now with free accounts, is it not?
