My money is on emaint within a couple days, like they did when people were remaking mules for plaudits. If they don't ban, it's still going to result in an enormous amount of medals since the bar for entry is basically nothing.
Banned for automating The account creation process to acquire medals or banned for abusing medals in general? Curious why they'd ban people for just making accounts vanilla, is that against the TOS to do it repeatedly?
I think what everyone is thinking by calling SE "stupid"... is that they permanently devalue medals by this introduction, with nothing to replace it, and the market is impacted for a long time.
However, I wouldn't say that SE is stupid, but rather just withholding information. When Dyna-Divergence zones were released, shards were EX for about 6 months...and it was kind of painful to get 6-18 people to do Dynamis-D, because feelings were mixed about it. I noticed that SE seemed to be flooding the game with many NPC-sources that were just giving away shards (Gobbie Box return-rate of shards was also VERY high in these months, ~20-30% of my pulls were shards). Around this time, SE also said that Wave 2 is the end of Dynamis-D, with "no plans" yadda, yadda, but a year later, they came out with Wave 3 anyway.
If SE told us their release strategy for Dyna-D over the 2-2.5 year timeframe, everyone would have hoarded EX shards for the value they would create later.
My personal opinion is that something new is coming. We're playing in a closed system, so SE knows that they are creating an influx of medals that will likely (1) cause inflation to de-value the cost of medals (we all know this) and (2) increase player engagement for whatever new thing is coming (if it the FFXI progression treadmill is dependant on those medals as a stepping-stone).
I disagree with a lot of things that SE does, but I wouldn't call them stupid in this particular situation. I don't think SE is going to let Beastmen Medals go the way of old Dynamis' Forgotten items (Hope, Touch, Thought, etc).
My dude. The stupidity is adding a high value item to login for less than the first days points creating an infinite money glitch.
That is the absolute definition of stupidity.
Not the adding of medals itself.
And if you partake in this infinite money glitch, you are knowingly breaking the rules and subject to ban. While it's a near zero percent chance, it's not zero.

Ah, my bad, I stand corrected. This is in fact, quite dumb.

I'll guess I spend 9 hours picking a game from my Steam backlog and 1 hour actually playing it.
real question is why can day0 players get login points?
it should have some minuscule lockout before you start getting points.
a 3-day lockout would be plenty.
if we could put price tags on medals. I'd like:
100: beastmen
300: kindred
500: demon
I'd LOVE the removal of genkai, but yeah. Could also remove seals from genkai. Could also give free seals on day zero log in. There's answers. Just no good ones.
(25 seals is like 3 hours of play give or take, with some wiggle for the wrong seals dropping)

I haven't heard the word Genkai used in a over a decade, but this hit me right in the feels. F those guys who decided to use LB1, LB2, etc etc. I'm going to this feeling of nostalgia just pass over me like a wave.
Also: {Master Level} {Genkai} {Team Up?} {Can I have it?}
The answer is just not to put anything worthwhile and tradable at 500 or less. They've done it for however many years, and apparently they realized their mistake before even letting it go live. All good.
I think that there's a difference between 'too good' and invalidating parts of content that should still be worthwhile.
1 medal per 500 login points means someone with a good bot can make 7000 medals per char this month. 1 medal per 501 login points means price will drop considerably and availability will spike. The latter is good, the former goes a bit past 'too good'.
It invalidates w1 of dyna-divergence, which gets little enough attention as it is. I'm not saying a whole lot of people go in and kill boss for medals, but it's an extra prize for doing a quick in-and-out boss for someone. People farming W1 creates shards at a cheaper rate than medals and provides a secondary market.
Is it really that much better to have a handful of RMT sitting on 50,000 medals and providing all of them at 300k/pop so you can upgrade easily? Why not make everything worth very little gil? For that matter, why not make a NPC that lets you select which r/ex pieces you'd like and get them for free?
I say this as one of the people who would've been botting it.
Dyna is/was my biggest source of gil so have the most to lose by cheap medals.
Still rather have cheap stock than not. Price of medals is effectively cost of relic upgrades. The only reason some relics are so expensive is scarcity of drops, shards and medals.
If you want to argue these relics should be as expensive, I disagree. They are at best situational, and empy/ody armor often out performs it at a fraction of the price. It follows relic upgrade price needs an adjustment.
Even if medals are free as in beer, relic price is still bound by crafting materials. It's not like you go to an npc and they give you high level armor for free. Also odyssey armor exists and you just go to an npc and buy it. The sky didn't fall.
