Did we see the same match? Germany had the ball like over 60% of the time, we barely performed any action. Maybe Germany's attacks were a bit sterile, but we almost only played on our side of the field.

Never, France has lost the habit of penalties, now we either get destroyed or we barely win.

When he did that twinkle toes run up, I was saying he has to score, you don't do a run up like that and miss or you just end up looking like a complete ***.

That is a valid question, so I'll tell you what kind of game I saw.
I saw a game in which no team could outscore the other one. Only through extreme luck (our goal), or with fouls (Schweinsteiger's header + hand penalty).
The quality of chances were about the same, except one which had been ruined by a bad pass from Schweinsteiger to Müller in extra time during a counter.
That we had a bit more ball possession is easily explained with our styles. Germany passes a lot in a safe area, while Italy is more straight forward. Italy had 2 different defensive tactics. One was defending very high, directly at each of our defenders, the other one was in their own half. In regular time Italy ran a few more km more than us, of course they get tired and switched to the latter defense more often. Despite this there were nearly no cramps.

So yes, all in all we were equal in my opinion.

Yeah, the match felt that it could've gone either way, and there weren't many real chances. Neither team was dominant.

The PK's though..it's funny how your best guys (Schweinsteiger, Müller and Özil) were the ones who wasted theirs. Some in weird fashion too!

I felt sad for Gigi...he was so close to blocking a lot of those PKs.

So the answer is no.

The PK shootout reminded me of the longest one I had seen: it was the final match of the African Cup of Nations 92, Ghana vs Ivory Coast. The score was 11-10. All players of both teams participated in the shootout, all scored except for two guys (1 guy in each team), leaving the score at 10-10 after 11 rounds. In the 12th round, the IC guy scored while the Ghana guy missed (both shot the first round PK and scored). The keepers probably really sucked at PK's lol.

We witnessed a funny shoot-out in the national cup 1996 in Turkey which ended at 17-16.

Müller actually hasn't reliably scored on penalties for a while. His shots have simply no power if he tries to wait for the GK to move. A top GK like Gigi knew that and just waited.
Özil just missed a penalty last game with a weak shot (I even called it a fair play action in this thread because the penalty wasn't deserved and the shot was so bad) So he went with for a higher risk and it failed against the post.
No excuse for Schweinsteiger though, that looked very weird. Might watch a replay of it to find the cause.

Now for the next game: France and Island don't play each other that often it seems, so the past results are not really a lead for how this game goes.
