My Anye voice may be a littl bit off, but here goes...
Nine bullets? Really, guys? Nine?!
I have no problem with a little ***18 year old being taught a lesson, but dying over it, nah. I can't find much information about this, but 9 bullets under any circumstance seems a bit excessive.
Toronto is just a ***city in general.
It also seems to me he used the tazer after to try cover his ***.
Law enforcement officers are suppose to exercise better judgement?
Idiots like this should have exercised better judgement. If the police waited and he shot them would that have been a better result? NO
Wake up be an adult You do something this stupid what do you expect?
Better the police can go home to there family's then this idiot being arrested for murdering a cop.
They had a tazer -- why didn't they taze him to put him down?
The duty of the police is to diffuse these situations, and failing to do so, end the threat.
To kill before you're out of options is just jumping to murder before trying every other last resort.
It is absolutely an awful, dumb idea to raise a knife to the police. But the cops definitely jumped the gun here.
I'd like to believe that people should know better and not actively try to get themselves in such situations where the police can be led to think that any force is necessary, much less lethal one.
The guy went too far in the first place, with the wrong people. He should know what they are capable of and that ***can go wrong very fast in such situation.
Especially in a country where you know they'll pick up their weapons like that. I don't know, I just can't wrap my head around the fact that someone can be that HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE. If you know that cops can do mistakes and take your life in an instant, why do you even try your chance at it? Just why?
Maybe they did wrong but the guy is *** HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE in the first place, my mind just cannot go past that. Survival instinct, why do you act tough in front of 9 guys that can all kill you by pressing one finger, even if they aren't supposed to.
The taser part is alarming though, yes, they seem to have panicked which would mean that it was indeed a mistake. I just don't understand why someone would try to provoke such mistake.
I need to preface this by stating my ignorance of the particular situation. I wasn't in the line of cops outside the bus, I don't know how threatening the situation was for them.
What I do know, is that a Knife is a melee weapon, and a firearm is not. Guns have the advantage of distance, and unless Yatim was a registered Ninja, the police were in no more danger than I am right now. Not to mention they had the advantage of flanking Yatim from the back, and non-lethal options at their disposal.
Again though, I can't see Yatim and what he's doing on the bus. Did he reach for something? Did he charge? Did the cops have reason to believe maybe he had an IED on his person?
What could he have done with that knife? How many people could have died. Were you there? Was that you filming the video to hear what the kid was saying and what the police were saying to him? They made a judgment call to take the kid down. Who are you to judge them on something they are trained to handle?
Less armchair QB.....
We are the public they are to protect and serve. We pay their salary and paid for said training.None better to question things than the people that allow them to be officers in the first place.

They acted in a way that is the antithesis of how I would expect someone trained to act. So yes, I am one to judge.
I like how you basically tell us we don't have the right to use our critical thinking skills, just trust in your authoritarian overlords.

Accountability is the line between Police and a Police State. Just remember that.

Actually with Internal Affairs, they're free to just judge themselves because someone thought that would be a good idea.
The officers would've had to expose themselves to a potentially lethal situation to get close enough to use the taser.

There are a number of cartridges designated by range, with the maximum at 35 feet (10.6 m). Cartridges available to non-law enforcement consumers are limited to 15 feet (4.5 m)
I just moved right outside of Toronto from the States not even a month ago now. Nice of the police here to pull this kind of crap to make me feel right at home again; very accommodating of them.

Unless you plan to go on a tram around midnight and order everyone to get off while holding a knife, you're fine.
In Canada, police officers, when drawing their sidearm/firearm, are trained to shoot to kill.
If 9 officers pulled out their firearms and shot to kill, it means that every other option had to have failed, or would not have worked. Also, every time they pull out their firearms, there is supposed to be an inquiry as to what lead to the circumstances, such as threat of bodily harm (armed suspect) to themselves, or others around the suspect. If the inquiry finds the police to have acted against the suspect without first using every other exhaustible option, the police officers involved can be taken to court for criminal charges, as well as civil charges.
Of course, there's been a growing number of "accidental deaths" since the kerfuffle caused by the RCMP when they tasered a distraught polish man who was looking for his mother in an airport. He couldn't speak English, and he ended up dying, but the RCMP officers involved, still haven't received the punishment they were supposed to receive.
Calgary Police Service, RCMP, and other various police command protocols in Canada. The other thing is, Canadian police forces are also trained to use lethal force as the final exhaustible option, but once they pull out their guns, and feel their is viable threat to life and limb, they are trained to shoot to kill.
The again, this is also one of very, very few instances across Canada that I've heard of an officer needing to use lethal force.
If the showing was a deterrent in so many cases, explain the number of police-related deaths in the US. Canada is not the US, or the UK, but we still have core protocols to follow.
In most cases in Canada, just the presence of 1 or more police officers, which are almost always armed, is enough of a deterrent. People don't even so much as glance at anything but the badge, and cool down. Officers have to also be trained in firearm safety before being allowed to carry. This comes as part of their Use of Firearms Training. Just brandishing a gun (like they do in Flashpoint and other cop dramas) almost never works as intended. Threatening a police officer with a weapon, allows the use of any force necessary to subdue the suspect, including deadly force when unable to subdue or dissolve the situation by other means.
It's a knife. It would be different if it were a gun
how is it? it's a weapon, and you can throw it. Clearly if this guy is stupid enough to Threaten police and pull out a weapon, who is to say he wouldn't try something like that.
it's always easy to look back at something with 20/20 vision, but in that situation as it is happening and within a split second he could charge or throw the knife at your head. I agree 100% with what the police did.

Also as mentioned above, he could be a disguised ninja.

You never know.
I'm sure you're saying that to be a smart-aleck, but it's the truth, they have no idea how trained he was with that. it would be stupid to take it any less then a lethal threat
