Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

I find online interactions to be more truthful, personally. I find that social inhibitions and conditioning are less prevalent, and anonymity lets people be more comfortable with a persona that fits them. Granted, the internet also has its own normatives, inhibitions, and conditioning, but so long as the community isn't rife with the aggression that is prevalent on the net, it simmers.

You know, until I only spent time on italian forums I never bumped into such problems. It's when I started posting in these gaming forums that I found all kind of aggressive behaviour and over time I kind of adapted myself to it. At first I didn't understand it.

Until I end up raging, closing browser/lol/w.e, and wondering what I was so mad about 1 minute later.

Perhaps it's gamer culture in general. Could be my own bias coloring my lens. I do notice it on other areas though, but that could be confirmation bias.

No way, you see it all the time in news discussions.

I think games attract trolls. It's easy to grief in team games and the result is more visceral, you didn't just interrupt a conversation, you wasted 45 minutes of someones life.

Then there's stuff like ffxi which is just emotionally taxing. Dealing with drama of assigning gear drops bothered me even after I logged off.

Some of the fights I had to deal with were ridiculous. Why are you being racist? Why do you care if he doesn't like you? Get over it. Was like junior highschool.

Yeah... but news, with the current political climate, is nearly always charged, even more so than the internet. I can handle the internet, but the politically charged anger that seems to well in people is far too much for me. That's about all the internet is for me, news and gaming, so... yeah, that's my justification for supposing confirmation bias.

RE: Eugene – I used to do the whole leader thing in FFXI. It was satisfying I have to say, despite what drama could come up. It was a good sense of community for me. It was incredibly taxing though, and I didn't feel like I could hold it all, and the sub-leaders were becoming just as overwhelmed as me. With better responsibility distribution, it could certainly work and not be very taxing, but my mind isn't catered to generating systems like that. /shrug

I need to do some VW or something and get some cruor so I can brew some more for Dread and Drok and my girlfriend and myself.
