I understand that as well. Either way it's an insult to be honest. >.> Damn it now I'm remembering ***from highschool...
Our Japanese teacher would play jp videos whenever she was sick or just really didn't feel like teaching. One of the shows we watched last year ended up having a character named "Knight" which is also my last name. Needless to say after a scene in which the woman protagonist yelled out "NAITO-KUN!!!" the entire class decided it was cute and proceeded to do it at random times for the rest of the year. -.-;

-kun is male of a younger age then you, or someone of a lesser position. -san is for an elder(Mr. Ms. ect.) -chan is for female, or something cutesy. -sama is someone of a higher position or power.

Oh is that what it means? So is -kun the masculine? kun is usually used for males while chan is for females. Though like Seha said chan is also generally used for boys as well. You technically don't HAVE to use them specifically like this but it's how they are usually taken.

Don't forget Senpai, Kohai and I think there's one other I'm missing for higher positions than yourself.
edit: Mainly find that important because the way I learned it sama is an extremely respectful term that is somewhat awkward to use when talking to EVERYONE higher than you on the pyramid. :x

And tan, but I'm not sure if it's proper or just a child-talk.

-tan is child-talk since it's usually used by children who can't pronounce -chan.

Senpai is used to address or refer to one's senior colleagues.
Sensei is used to refer to or address teachers, doctors, politicians, lawyers, and other authority figures.
Tono (Dono) is used for Lords or Masters or anyone of Noble Status.
I have no idea what Kohai is used for..

I have no idea what Kohai is used for.. I'll be honest I can't remember what Kohai was specifically used for either. :/ Less than a year out of the class and I'm already losing the little precious knowledge I had learned.

You can learn all the languages in the world, but if you stop talking you irreparably start to forget them.

Kouhai is a junior in something, someone usually a year or more under you in sports/school/company etc.

Do they notice you're an elder? Yes, for some reason I was actually well known in highschool... Never did figure that one out... So awkward when everyone knows your name and calls out to you and you're just like "Hey...that person... Yea..."
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
