Random Thoughts.....What Are You Thinking?

Me, Casper and my brother walk to this girl's house, on the way Casper [who is a notorious car thief, I've known him for about 8 years now, and he's spent 95% of that time locked up for stealing cars] pass this car that the owner is trying to sell in their yard.. only this house is on a major roadway, which means the car is parked by the road and the house is waaaaay the hell back.. Now at this time I really don't know a lot about Casper, I find out later that he's been jumping from state to state in stolen cars later on.. Anyways, he starts talking about how that car is beautiful and he's just going to take it.. Both me and my brother shrug it off thinking he's just talking up his game..

So we get to this girl's house (which is actually kinda strange, there's three of them all best friends who are always hanging out and each one of us likes a different one, match made in heaven, right? that's gotta be a sign!) and he will just not shut the *** up about that car.. Nor will he stop asking me for my cigarettes.. So finally to shut him up about both, I bet him a half a pack of cigarettes he won't go steal the damned car.. He grins and walks out the door and the five of us just go about what we were doing.. 15 minutes later, he's back and dangles keys.. All 5 of us look at him, jaws gaping as if to say "You didn't".. We walk outside and what do we see.. That car..

We've been walking all over the place, and we're stupid and high 'kids', so when it's time to go home, we don't walk home, of course we take the car.. Later that night we're chilling at mine and my brother's apartment (if you read my earlier spoiler, the property I live on also has two garage apartments, one vacant, one my uncle's, I convinced my grandparents to let me and my brother stay in the empty one since it was never going to be rented out [it was falling over and was condemned because it wasn't safe]) and we get a call, from my younger brother, and my cousins, they're having a party in Houston.. We decide to go..

A long night of drinking and smoking and drifting and racing later, it's time to go home, so we head home, which is about a 30-45 minute drive.. My cousins live on the very outskirts of Houston, not far, but there's plenty of road between them and home. We get literally 10 minutes from my house, and then a state trooper flashes his lights, there is only 2 cars on the freeway, coming or going, it's literally a 50/50 chance between us and this truck driving next to us.. Of course we're *** up, so Casper (the one driving) probably isn't exactly driving straight, and the car is stolen, with plenty of time to report is as such..


We have to assume the cop is for us.. So we keep driving, not slowing down or anything (and that truck isn't either) and Casper starts to formulate a plan.. We're in the outer most lane, the the truck is in the one to our left, the cop in the lane left of the truck.. Casper waits until the next exit, then floors it and ducks off the exit ramp, slams a turn and takes off.. Some freaking out and shouting later [I wanted to dump the car and duck into the woods, which would have probably meant walking home, which was miles away, but at least we couldn't be tied to the car, they couldn't have possible seen us stop or get out of the car] Casper decides he's going to drive us home..

Few minutes later, flashing lights, ***we're busted, we're all going to jail.. I'm getting ready for Casper to pull over and to be cuffed, when he floors it.. The engine of the car is popping, and you can smell the fumes, he's pushing this car to it's absolute max and we're flying down a 2 lane, unlit street with a six foot ditch on either side and a State Trooper in hot pursuit.. We lose the trooper a few times and everytime I try to tell him to stop the *** car and bail now.. All tha'ts coming is more cops and more eyes, our best chance is to ditch it early and slip into the woods and the dark night..

But nope, he keeps going.. At some point we ramp off a very steep train crossing, with an off-duty officer trying to come to help on just the other side, we literally nearly ramp directly into the driver side windows of the SUV the undercover is driving.. We weren't at door level, we were at a level to strip the roof, and the cops head, clean off.. A fraction of a second later on breaking and that cop would very likely be dead.


Now I mentioned we're on dark streets, and Casper is obviously not listening to a damn thing I'm saying, because I'm trying to be smart.. I warn him a very hard right is coming up, and it's a feeder road, I tell him to slow down, but he doesn't, he's still pushing the car for everything it's got.. So we're going about 110-120 when he has to make a 90 degree right turn onto a two lane feeder road, as you can imagine, we don't make it.

*** end of the car loses traction, and the right taillight is the first thing to hit, a ditch.. From that point on it's hold on for your life.. I push one hand against the roof of the car, a foot into each side of the floorboard (it's a sports car, if you sit in the middle you're nearly sitting on the recess for the transmission/drivetrain, which is where I was sitting) and one hand into the side of the car that's fixing to hit the ditch.. No seat belt on, car flips 2 and a half times (landing upside down) it's smoking and fixing to burst into flames, the front wheels are both turned inwards at an angle they couldn't have come to naturally, they're damn near perpendicular to the car and Casper asks if we're okay and then kicks out the window and takes off running..

My brother starts to do the same, but again, my 'thinking' kicks in and I tell him not to, I have a plan.. Now my plan is resting on Casper not being caught or supporting my story... I tell my brother to say that Casper told us he just bought the car and we didn't know it was stolen.. us running at this point would kill that story, but we stayed behind, so we have some credibility at this point from the cop.. Trooper drags us both out and there's about 30 minutes of dialog that I can't even really remember.. Finally, a K9 finds Casper hiding in a boat under a tarp, and he confirms the story we told the cops.. There's no reason for us all to go to jail, and Casper already had warrants, he gained nothing but implicating us in knowing it was stolen..

At this point we're all whisked away to a convenience store on the other side of town.. See the car hadn't been reported stolen at this point (and the owner wouldn't even know it was stolen until cops showed up, which they got a huge laugh out of, you'll see why in a minute) and the Trooper thought we ran because we fit the description of some people who had just robbed that store about 20 minutes before the entire thing began. But no, we ran because the car was stolen and there was a literal 1 in 2 chance the Trooper was trying to pull us over, knowing the car was stolen, we figured it must be us.

The store owner confirmed it definitely was not us that robbed him, and Casper went to jail for his outstanding warrants and the new charge, me and my brother got a ride home in a cruiser and never faced charges..

Why did the cops laugh when they showed up to tell the person their car had been stolen? I'm not kidding here, one literally fell to the ground laughing so hard I thought he was going to pis his pants.. The car was stolen from 'psychic' she runs a business telling people's fortunes and futures and didn't even know her own car had been stolen more than 12 hours earlier.
