I know I'm not the brightest bulb in the chandelier, and I know I can be paranoid. But this makes me almost scared to have children in America because I feel like they will not be free here. And if my children are nothing else, I want them to be free.

The US isn't exactly free lol
By slipispsycho 2011-12-15 11:40:14
Not that I'm a fanboy for the US or anything, but in it's defense, you're not really free anywhere. Freedoms you have here, other places don't and vice versa.

You know how if you are born on American soil, you are American even if your parents are not? I wonder if it's like that other places. Like if I just so happened to accidentally be in Canada when I give birth, if that would give my children the safety net of Canadian citizenship. I wonder how much difference it would even make. :/

yeah but for a country that prides itself in it's freedom and how great it is ... sure is doing a shitty job at it :p

This is true too. I know I'm just being paranoid. Watched too much V for Vendetta, I think!

I'm not exactly gun in hand, other hand over heart for allegiance patriotic, but I can at least acknowledge that the US is a great place for general living qualities and inherit rights for self-motivated success and movement of policies that shape our future.
The problem is, our liberties and rights are constantly under attack and infringement over something as ridiculous as terrorism. A concept many fail to understand and linearity place on any demograph of undesirable consequence.
Pretty much as come down to: "If you don't agree with me, you must be un-american or a terrorist!"
Yes, by all means spend >50% of the entire US budget on militaristic purposes and neglect funding for necessary public programs and amenities many depend on to even so much as survive. *rolls eyes*

i believe it give the child dual citizenship in america and the country it was born in, and i think they can hold that dual citizenship until they turn 18, when they need to pick one citizenship (im not sure on the last part though)

Quote: In general, you are a Canadian citizen if you were born in Canada. You are not a Canadian citizen if you were born in Canada and at the time of your birth, your parents were neither Canadian citizens nor permanent residents, and at least one parent had diplomatic status in Canada. This. And this: http://flipthepyramid.com/index.php/entry/10-ridiculous-things-that-make-you-a-terror-suspect (If that site is even true. Big IF.) These things, coupled with the bill that lets the military arrest suspected terrorists (I believe the white house said it would pass this bill? I might be wrong) frightens me.
I own a gajillion flashlights, I'm not part of Occupy but I agree with some of what they have to say, storing 7+ days of food is very easy with a freezer, if I'm texting in public there's a decent chance I'm going to try to keep those around me from seeing what I text because it's not their darn business, I don't explicitly trust everything the government does or says and I sure don't trust their motives, I've burned myself setting fires in the fireplace and cooking before and I probably will again (although as far as I know I don't have any burn marks.) These things make me a terrorist? WTeffinF?
(Keeping in mind that I have NOT verified that anything that site says is true.) By the time my children are adults, if it continues in this pattern, anything they do or say could be misunderstood as terrorism. Not cool.

My dad was born in Japan too actually.
1961, not sure why or how his folks were there in the first place.
But that didn't exactly green light paperwork to make him a Japanese citizen lol.

Wouldn't really matter where you live, the whole world seems to be going to ***, even if they're not directly involved, if say, Iran/China/N. Korea do start lobbing nukes or start up a war, it could easily affect every country.
I've been saying for a long time that our rights are being slowly stripped away, so it's not like I'm just oblivious to that, but I'm more worried about how the world is going to be in general for my son when he's older, than the noose the government is putting on our rights.

I'm hoping that eventually the older politicians will retire and younger ones will replace them with different ideas and start to reverse what has been done. Give freedoms back, stop spending on unnecessary programs, etc.
I can dream, right?

Aw Slip. You are right, just like usual. It doesn't make me feel better for my future babies, but it's true.

but the thing is, by that time, will it be too late? will enough damage have been done to make it unlikely for the country to recover?
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
