I watched a video with a guy complaining they releasing the FireRed and LeafGreen for Switch for about 20~25$ each.
The complain is valid. After all, the relase was officially a emulator + rom on Switch: there were no mew content, no improvement, not even translation to portuguese.
It feels like Nintendo just asked y
To a trainee to do the laziest work possible, and decide to earn with for no real invesment.
This seems so cool
Crazy how fans get so excited for nintendo doing the bare minimum when ppl can do this

This looks neat, I'll have to check it out.
My wife was talking about wanting to get these for $30. I told her we should just go buy the actual cartridges from our local game store instead.
It got me thinking about how different gaming and owning games is now. I still have all my old systems and a bunch of games for them. I can pop in a cartridge and play anything whenever I want. Every PC game I've "purchased" for the past 15 years requires me to download it from Steam, sign into some launcher, download more stuff from them, then if I'm lucky I'll get to play it. More often I'm gonna be stuck trying to get my controller working, display setup correctly, graphic settings adjusted... I'm getting very close to becoming a console player again. PC gaming is frustrating these days.
I'm sure if society collapses and we lose the internet, I probably won't be putting many hours into Pixel Remasters, but GDI I want to have that option still!
3v3 PVP in shooters does not work. Nobody wants it and every game developer should know that by now. Catering to the competitive crowd will blow up on the launchpad.

I believe I'm the opposite where I enjoy the tinkering with graphics settings, getting display set up, etc. I've been on PC primarily for the last 12 years and do not see myself going back to console, even though I own a PS5.
Just curious about your controller and issues on PC, what problems have you run into? What controller is your go to?

I enjoy tinkering when it's appropriate. Like loading up new mods on Starfield or something. I don't appreciate being forced to "work" to get a game to work. Perfect example, I have Megaman X collection on Steam. Installed it, launched it, no sound. Enter game, no sound. All settings show it should be working, but it's not. This is unacceptable, but this kind of thing is so common for me now.
I'm currently using the PS5 controller, but I have to use it wired because bluetooth always causes issues. I've done DS4Windows and I'm now using ReWASD. It mostly works, but I always have to go and activate Steam Input which is all community created. Why the heck can't Square Enix or whatever other billion dollar company's game I'm playing make this work?
Most of my frustrations are because these giant companies keep putting out this half-finished crap and the "community" keeps fixing it. Oblivion Remaster comes out, no VR support. 3 hours after launch some dev puts out a VR patch, 12 hours after launch we have VR controller support, and 3 days after launch we have full 6-dof with full controller support (swing to hit, bow and arrow). Created for free by unpaid developers. You're telling me that Bethesda couldn't afford to pay 1 person 3 days of work to release that game with VR support?
Another good example is playing on a 21:9 ultrawide monitor. Final Fantasy 16, 7 remake, and 7 rebirth all "support" 3440x1440 aspect ratio... support means it's an option you can toggle on and get black bars on the sides of nearly all content. Shortly after launch of all these games an ultrawide mod comes out that fixes it, giving you actual 21:9 content except for some FMV scenes.
I know these seem like niche cases. VR and ultrawide monitors are not high on the hardware list, but they aren't so low they should be discounted entirely. Clearly the amount of work required isn't the problem... so what is their excuse?
Mod devs don't have to worry about long term support, refunds, testing, legal obligations, etc. That's not to say their work is bad, they just don't have the obligations that development companies have as a whole.
If they added VR support, it's another category of testing they'd have to do or people would whine if something wasn't right across a multitude of devices. It's more testing overhead, then people will refund if they got something slightly wrong. A mod developer doesn't really have to worry about these things.
It's also project management. They have allocated resources, goals, tasks, etc. They have to spread resources out and assign tasking, if there is no resources or a ticket for it, it doesn't get done. It could be as simple as no one thought about it (it's easy to get in the weeds and overlook things) and create a ticket or it could be brought up and not prioritized for one reason or another. It could just be that engineers fought for it, but PM said no because they thought VR smelt funny.
There is a pretty big gap between a mod developer doing something that's feasible technically and the original developer allocating resources then implementing it.
I would buy that argument if the product they were putting out was actually good and finished.
If these giant companies are so strapped for cash, well then maybe it's time for them to just fail. We have so many examples of what can be done with smaller groups of people spending magnitudes less money while achieving so much more.
SE spent close to $60 million on FF16.
Sandfall spent $10 million on E33.
Arguing aside, same quality of game. Even has the same main char voice actor. That extra $50 million could make E34, E35, E36, E37, and possibly E38. Meanwhile SE is firing out 20+ year old rebooted content for $60+ a game to try and keep the lights on because FF16 "performed badly". I'm obviously exaggerating a bit btw.
I get where you're coming from on those topics. Regarding ultrawide monitors, I considered getting one, but after reading how so many games either don't have support or have the issues you described I decided against it. I have Acer 31.5" 4k 144Hz IPS monitor and I love it.
About controller issues, I haven't tried my PS5 controller on PC but still use my PS4 controller. For years I fought with it to work trying DS4Windows, multiple different USB cords (it would randomly drop), etc. Even switched to a Power A Xbox 1 controller for awhile because I got so sick of the PS4 controller not working on a regular basis. What fixed it was getting an 8Bitdo adapter. I've been using it for 5 months and it's been flawless. I'd highly recommend getting one!
Neat. I have the 8bitdo SNES controller with thumb sticks... but I don't think I'd like it for other stuff.
I'm probably buying the Steam controllers... whenever those come out. The 1st Steam controller was pretty good, but very wonky from trying new things. The new one intrigues me because it's PlayStation layout + Steam mouse stuff.

I got a PS5 controller a while back in 2023 on black friday - used a Bluetooth dongle, and it would always *** up and not work. was pissed and ended up giving up on it and got a xbox controller with a dongle instead...
Fast forward to Nov 2024, and I upgraded to a new motherboard (870x tuf wifi7) and tried the PS5 controller, and it works perfectly now. IDK what happened, maybe the Bluetooth being on the mobo or it just being new tech, but it solved everything
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
