I didn't even realize that the 24man raids in 14 were based off FF12. I always thought those were something to do with Tactics lol. So ... while playing XIV you never looked at any boards about the game?
Or was it that you didn't play XIV and merely heard about the return to ivalice raids?
In any event I think you gave XII a bit of a short shift when you played it.

I 100% did not give a crap about FF12 when it came out. I only wanted to play FFXI. 2006 I might have been running my sky/dynamis linkshell at that time, I really can't remember exactly when that was.
As for not realizing the raids in 14 were based on 12 and not tactics... I had no idea that the world of FF12 is the same world as FF Tactics. I saw Ivalice, and I immediately thought Tactics. I really liked Tactics, but as for remembering every single town/castle/faction... I assumed that Rabanastra was some point of interest in tactics or something. Even the way they talk is the same as Tactics.
I was just doing some digging into the team and I had no idea there was so much drama around 12. I was just curious if people on that team went on to make 14 and a lot of them did. I can just really tell how inspired by FFXI 12 is and how FF12 was trying things that would be used in FF14 1.0.

Pretty tough to sort through the Highguard launch state. It's getting heavily review bombed, which means next to nothing, but it has a good playercount. Its free to play and features cross platform, so you would expect a good launch in terms of players.

If anybody is like me and hasn't played FF12 in ages, might be worth trying it again. I got the HD remake on Steam. It's buggy, but it looks great.
I remember 12 getting all kinds of ***on when it came out. I played it and enjoyed it, so it never made much sense to me why it got so much hate. I'm in that lame/weird bucket of people that didn't hate XIII either, though, so maybe I just have low standards. XII did start to feel draggy and artificially long in the last 1/4 or so IIRC. I feel that way about a lot of JRPGs though.
I played it after rage quitting due to killing mee deggi like 50 times with no drop though, so I wasn't in a rush to get back to XI.

I liked 12 and 13. I appreciated the character designs. . .

I don't have any specific link, but here is one of the uses of Ai that is actually good.
Google Ai Summary
Can you tell me about the development drama that occurred during the making of Final Fantasy 12
2 minutes ago
The making of Final Fantasy XII (FF12) is famously marked by one of the most turbulent development cycles in gaming history, resulting in a Guinness World Record for the longest production period at the time.
1. Director Yasumi Matsuno's Departure
The most significant "drama" was the sudden departure of the game's original director and visionary, Yasumi Matsuno, in 2005—just one year before the game's release.
Official Reason: Square Enix cited a prolonged illness as the cause.
Internal Friction: Rumors suggest the departure was fueled by high stress and creative clashes. Matsuno was reportedly temperamental, at one point refusing to work for a month after several team members left to join Mistwalker, a rival studio founded by series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.
Impact: Matsuno was replaced by a directorial duo (Hiroyuki Ito and Hiroshi Minagawa) and executive producer Akitoshi Kawazu to push the game across the finish line.
2. The Protagonist Controversy
There is a long-standing debate regarding how much the main character, Vaan, was "shoehorned" into the story.
Original Vision: Basch was initially intended to be the central protagonist.
Executive Meddling: Due to concerns that an older, rugged lead would not appeal to younger Japanese demographics, the team was pressured to create the more youthful Vaan and Penelo.
The "Leading Man" Myth: While fans often point to Balthier's "leading man" dialogue as proof he was the intended lead, directors have clarified that Vaan was added relatively early in the process.
3. Structural & Technical Delays
The project faced massive technical hurdles that led to repeated delays.
Scope Creep: The game attempted a seamless, real-time world on the PlayStation 2, which pushed the hardware to its absolute limits.
Team Fragmentation: The development team was a mix of staff from different projects (including Final Fantasy Tactics and PlayOnline), leading to "anarchy" and conflicting creative directions that took years to resolve.
Unfinished Feeling: Upon release, critics and fans noted that the final third of the game felt rushed, with sparse character development for Vaan and Penelo compared to the political heavyweights like Ashe and Basch.

Yasumi Matsuno is a frigging goat.
Anything story related in that is considered good, I credit Matsumo

You should be ashamed I'm a part timer, because I do this part time better than you can do this full time.

As for not realizing the raids in 14 were based on 12 and not tactics The raids are set in Ivalice, so it's got locales from both FFT and FF12, but the story is mostly influenced by Tactics. FF12 characters, lore and legacy have much smaller presence compared to FFT.
I had no idea there was so much drama around 12 Nor did I. Links please. Basically, every mainline non-MMO FF title released after the Square-Enix merger (i.e. after FF10) had to go under development hell (usually involving changes in management or game vision) for whatever reason. 12, 13 and 15 suffered greatly because of this, and it is evidently reflected on cohesion & overall experience of the final product not meeting long-time fans' expecations.

A cheating wife makes a man strong. A smart wife challenges her husband. The good ones rise to the challenge.

Started experimenting with a light box again. There is so much light and focus that I guess you don't have to edit much or it can be overdone. I see why ppl use it, but its a pain to set up lol. I need to add an acrylic base so it has a cool reflection like I see some people doing.

Thinking better, I will need to hire more 4 male actors.
What is a good thing, because male actor in this industry generally is cheaper.

So the UK has decided to fine Steam 900 million dollars (of course its the UK) for their "monopoly on the PC gaming market". First of all, anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature knows thats false, they could easily go to court and show that GoG and Epic exist, as well as other companies attempting to join the e-vendor market but failing (EA tried, Ubisoft tried, Blizzard tried) due to their greed.
Now my actual question: what happens if Valve tells them to, in what I believe would be their words, "sod off wanker"? Does the UK just block Valve from operating in the UK? I dont think that would play out the way the UK Govt thinks it will.

If they want to trade in the Uk then yes, they will take them to court after refusing to pay.
They could just say "keep the market, we good" but I doubt it.

Are you channeling your inner RadialArcana?
Lawsuit given go ahead
It's a lawsuit, not a fine. And it was just a ruling allowing it to proceed to trial, which doesn't mean anything. You still have to win.

Valve attempted to get a frivolous lawsuit dismissed
Corrupt UK courts said no
And what happens when the corrupt UK court deems Valve guilty?
They pay what?
A $900 mil USD fine
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
