Random Thoughts.....What are you thinking?

Ok, now I got the right mamga, “Rent a Girlfriend”
First chapter, I already feel embarassed by the lame MC. But the story sounds interesting.
It also made me feel like Love Hina by the end of the first chapter.
Im definitively done with middle school stories.
But high school / university still feel interesting to me. Not those innocent idealizated person, but people who still didnt see the worst, but enough to lose the naivety.

I also watched a video reviewing the expedition 33 story.
Honestly, just the summary didnt get my attention.
I get when storytellers want to create an allegory to discuss mundane things, but I felt in expedition 33 lore the same thing I felt in FFXIII: the feeling that the writers tried too hard to create an entire universe to fit the story.
All the FFXIII mythology feels so convoluted. The story per se is told like a bistory lesson, but why would someone take a fictional world story lesson tp lesrn the story?
The summary of expedition 33 felt like this: someone tried too hard to tell stories that didnt rewuire that

The funniest thing to me was when they were cursing this game and wishing it death Who would bother cursing? I mean pack up, move on, save your breath.
I liked my XI days, I have great nostalgia for it. I have yet to see a better combat system. Or a worse crafting system for that mater.
I mean just look around this forum. You see, people posting who don't even play The Game? And they post just to hate on it. I see them across all Xi media on YouTube. They leave the comments on the forums, videos, etc.
You could do a whole case study on it.How people who've quit still stick around the same places just to hate on the game and try to dissuade others from playing or enjoying the game.
I'm not saying that you're doing that. But he was talking in general so that seems to be my experiences.

The reason why FFXI population is diminishing over time is not a matter of blaming or anyones fault.
The core playerbase got older. Adult people dont have enough time to play as the game was designed to play (very time consuming).
Newer playerbase is from another generation. FFXI WAS NOT made for the newer playerbase, and neither side is in the wrong: newer playerbase want a game to require less investment what FFXI dont allow: you will hardly do any progress before sinking 100+ hours on it, what is absurd if you look at raw numbers: Ive been spending around 100h to complete each Xenoblade games, that are not short by any means. And with same investment, probably you will still be very undergeared and poot in FFXI, and barely grasping the foundations.
Thats a very sharp learning curve. yeah this is a good point too. I had a lot more time from 2000 onward being 14 years old and barely get to do much gaming these days.
The game had to speed up Chanti, or else it would fall behind with our fast lives as both tech and responsibilities and obligations skyrocketed as time went on etc. Talking as an individual in the core targeted demographic etc

Literally never happened. Just another RA lie. Back to twitter and reddit where you can be safely full of crap.
You need to back to Bluesky where you belong, it's so dead there that the echos of your own voice will have a soothing impact on you.

I don't think the game needs to speed up, otherwise it'll just piss off people who still enjoy it for what it is. Despite I no longer play FFXI, I don't need FFXI to change design direction for my taste.
However, people need to deal with fact that FFXI isn't going to be mainstream.
Many games that I love aren't mainstream and they have plenty of gamers disliking it due to niche/weird designs. I don't give a damn.
No game in this world can please everyone. That's how it is.

First time to gaming community? Lol. There are like 100 pages of hatred on different games in that new game sucks thread. Mostly came from people who didn't even play those games. They only hate it because some streamer said "this game has pronoun in it!!!!" then everything else no longer matter.
Game hating is not FFXI only, every game gets haters. It's just the matter of numbers.
By Kaffy 2025-06-09 04:50:05
Twitch is a great example of this. Watch any new release and see hundreds of thousands of people foaming at the mouth with reasons that particular game is the worst thing in history. Most have very little actual knowledge or interest in the game itself and just want to stir the pot. They read a lot like many of the posts on any fansite, FFXI is definitely not unique in that regard.

FFXI still makes millions becasue it has carved out a niche that nobody else can or will invade on (and if they try, they are low budget shitshows like pantheon), they can't change the game too much or they will lose that niche.
They just need to allow the 40-50% who play solo/casual to be able to make progress too (in an osrs type way).
XI is like an indie band that has a core passionate audience, and XIV is like Taylor Swift. Even though XIV has far more players, who spend far more on cash shop stuff it also have very very high dev costs with a large team constantly needing to pump content out due to the short term nature of the content.

@afania
The pre 2008 dial up pace of zero quality of life adjustments speeding up the game (and hours needed to even solo some jobs to level 5 for example) if that had persisted while the rest of the gaming world sped up and evolved, we would have seen a lot more people jump ship due to SE failing to listen to user feedback etc
It absolutely had to speed up back then to stay with the times.

I would argue it's not even a case of the pace of the game speeding up so much as it is the game no longer expecting you to spend literal hours not doing anything until you can find other human beings to do the thing you want to do.

I think there's a better term than 'speeding the game up'. Some people are referring to how accessible content is (ie. using an item to force a spawn rather than camping for possibly 3 hours that only requires 3 minutes of attention). Other people are referring to speed as a measure of how active players are during combat.
I don't see the relation.

An old LS-mate of mine came across my youtube feed, so I came back again after romanticizing the game for a bit haha.

It's being respectful of your time. The pace of the actual gameplay isn't especially changed; we just know way more about how it works so we get through stuff faster and have accumulated the tools to do it.
All that's really happened is that everyone now experiences the game at the same rate Bards and Red Mages always did. That there was such a a discrepancy in the experience in the first place is pretty indefensible!

It sounded interesting enough. Who doesn't enjoy a good heist. Even looks moderately entertaining from the trailer.
Just... some serious marketing failures.

The fact that Africans have so many artifacts from the rest of the world in their museums?
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
