it's about as weird as people eating kangaroo or rabbits.....aka, only weird to people who don't eat it. I would argue that eating cats or dogs is generally seen as weirder than kangaroo or rabbit, simply because they are traditionally companion or working animals. Obviously, cultural bias plays a part, and pet rabbits aren't unheard of but they still feel more like a livestock pet than something you'd regularly own in the city.
If you've ever had a pet rabbit, you'd know how social they are and how much personality they have. It's no different from eating a dog, cat, or pig for that matter.

If you've ever had a pet rabbit,
I've had angora rabbits as a child. They stayed in outdoors hutches most of the year, and while they were certainly social they were nothing like our cats or dog. We sold their wool and entered the best one in the 4H fair every year. Obviously, my perspective may be reflective of the area (rural new england), and someone who owned a single indoor rabbit that was trained to be an [inferior] cat would likely feel differently.

Pretty sure it's just regional differences. Kangaroo only exist in Australia afaik, so I literally have never seen or heard of anyone eating Kangaroo in my whole life until I travel to Australia years ago. It was cultural shock to me lol, I didn't even know Kangaroo is served as food there.
Also I think rabbit meat is more of an Italian and French food? So it's also kinda rare to me, although it is not as weird as Kangaroo meat to me.
Dog/cat meat seems common enough in Korea/China/Vietnam, especially in the 80s when pet lovers weren't on a crusade to make this a moral issue. so such food aren't unheard of. I know people eat dog meat way before I learned that Kangaroo can be food too, personally. So to me Kangaroo meat is more weird lol.

In fantasy books they're always killing rabbits with slings and barely surviving, I imagine when it comes down to it just about any animal is fair game if you're starving. Now, eating for pleasure is a different story and I can't think anyone considers cat a delicacy though I could certainly be wrong.

This is how I see kangaroo, horse, or other oddities like alligator tail. It might not be what I'd immediately choose to eat, but I understand that it is edible.
So, kangaroo would be weird because it is not something that is commonly conceptualized as food internationally. But, cat and dog are a step weirder because they are not only not conceptualized as food, but are also common companion animals here. Human meat would obviously be the weirdest in this arbitrary scale.

We probably have a general aversion towards carnivore/predator meat

Same for more intelligent animals, no one advocates eating primates or dolphins or rats/mice. Someone mentioned pigs, which are pretty smart, I guess they're an exception to the rule.

I am not sure if one animal can't be both "working companion" and "food". In ancient times people use cattle to pull carts then eat them as food.
Dog's social role is probably somewhat similar to cattle in ancient China. They are not "family members", they are workers and source of food like cattle.

Dogs have somewhat higher social status today, and they are mostly seen as a "family member" that should be loved, thus dog eating seems unethical from modern pov. But this is more of a modern western concept. In ancient times it wasn't like that.

He joined a campus frat, and as part of celebrating each member's initiation, the frat had each member force the whole frat to do something difficult from each frat member's lived experience.
During his childhood in Costa Rica his family had been so destitute at one point that they did, indeed, catch and kill rats to eat. So he got a rat and prepped it, and made his whole frat (like 19 or so dudes) eat at least one nibble of the rat meat.
There was much gagging.

Same for more intelligent animals, people eat octopus and we know they are very high on the animal intelligence ladder. so you might want to say "intelligent mammals"
as for pigs they have the unlucking situation of being livestock since long before we had the privilege to care about what we should or shouldn't eat.

seems a bit early to be all weird about it like that, I mean California only has half their votes counted so that is probably 3million more for democrats, not that is will change the outcome.

I didn't expect such a large spread.
I will say this, though, having lived in multiple swing states over the years and being registered to vote in most of them - I got a lot more messages from Republicans than I did Democrats. Like not even close, as annoying as it was getting so many every day. I deleted them all but in retrospect it would've been an interesting analysis, but (anecdotally) it seemed like they reached out to voters in those states (NC, VA, GA, FL, and PA for some reason despite never living there) a lot more aggressively than Dems did.

I only got Harris campaign texts and I'm from GA. I lost count of how many I deleted.
Now, physical mail on the other hand...
A never ending deluge of pro-Trump and a few Pro-Kamala.
Anyway though, if we stick to talking about the erection, let's keep it as calm and sedated as possible.

I attend an online college in Arizona, and got a stupid number of ads for dems urging me to vote for them there. which seeing how AZ is going it seems like that push didnt work for them their either... probably because spending time/money sending messages to people who dont live in a state and have never registered to vote in that state is not effective to increase your turn out.
also my phone instantly marked them as spam after i flagged the first few

Rabbits are exceptional when allowed to develope. You can't just toss them in a tiny wood box. We currently have our 2nd house trained rabbit and she's amazing.
I say that, but be warned if you're thinking of getting a rabbit. I just spent the weekend soldering the internal wires of my stupid couch back together after she got inside and chewed every wire in half (elec recline). They are destructive, wires especially. Wires are just "spicey hay" to a bunny.

It may have to do with whatever source they got our info from, but yea I got SO MUCH junk mail. After my dad forwarded his mail post-Helene, we'd get 3 of the same stupid letters.
Most texts I got were for VA and NC, a few from PA despite never living there and Ted Cruz in TX begging for money for some reason, also a state I never lived.

or maybe even Kid Rock / Ted Nugent
Nothing would surprise me at this point.
Canuckistan is no different though, so I'm sure we'll follow in our older brother's footsteps next year.

So about world war 3... If we don't literally immediately officially start ww3 nato vs russia, the country formerly known as Ukraine is as good as removed from the map.
Seems like we should feel some kinda way about that.

Locally the inland empire in california voted no to ban slavery and forced servitude for criminals, so we all making plenty of sorts of moves backwards with rights lol
If they had voted yes, prisoners could continue to not be forced to work for free but slavery is too profitable.

Seems like we should feel some kinda way about that.
i feel like my cozy first world life in america is more important than playing world police, though i sort of regret that we installed a puppet government in ukraine and caused this whole situation so maybe ethically we should do something
but not too much tho, i don't want my taxes to go up

This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
