Y'all aren't being very random these days, and that's not very cash money of you :(
I started my shounen mentoring adventure in FFXIV
It's not that bad, I actually like how different this expansion feels
Still, the storytelling is as bad as always. It's so painful to sit through MSQ
Why is every random NPC a Nobel prize laureate in Literature? That dude is a fisherman dammit and his chat bubble is at least 3 lines long
Minus the shounen and minus the mentoring, eyyyy!

The storytelling is far worse than usual :(

Wouldn't wanna portray rural, tribal based societies as simpletons in any way, now would we? :P

It is blatantly obvious to me that one of the ways they have decided to increase revenue and push up the stock price, is to simply give less resources to the 2 games the division was made to work on.

They have stated they are working on other games, and it shows.

It will work in the short term, but long term they are shooting themselves in the foot. Typical stupid suits with a short term mindset.

Three is no way they can cut all dev from 11, and put out a pretty unimpressive 14 expansion and it not be because they are using the resources elsewhere.

I actually considered FF14 for completionim.

That or the remake of 1/2.

How many expansions 14 has? How long to complete them?

Idk about 11, but regarding 14, I don't think that the storytelling (I'm talking about the writing specifically here) is where a signifcant chunk of resources are spent. Yes they follow the same tried-and-true cookie cutter structure, which probably cuts the costs, but I would presume that most of the costs come from crafting the world, cinematics, enemy design, gear design etc. Presentation, art stuff, assets. It seems to me (so far at least) that this expansion delivering a little less in the departments I mentioned, but not by much.. less?

I don't claim to know much about the development process and costs though so idk

FFXIV has Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and now Dawntrail in addition to the base 2.0 game.

1.0 is no longer accessible... legitimately.

It's pretty fun gameplay wise, but serious play may cause your hands to hurt if you're not used to very active games.

It prides itself on its story, which is pretty strong all the way until about 6.0 where it shits the bed.

Now, its delivery has never been super good, as its cutscenes are very dry and tropey with many plot points often repeated by each member of the cast, and loads of standing still with heads turning and generic emotes. Not many cutscenes are as dynamic as say, cutscenes from Wings of the Goddess.

General consensus is something like Shadowbringers > HW >= Endwalker > Stormblood > A Realm Reborn, which Dawntrail being a contentious outlier that hasn't reached consensus (supposedly) though most honest user reviews put it quite low, many putting it lower than ARR storyline wise (I put it lower than ARR storyline wise with my whole chest).

For me it goes more like HW > SHB > Stormblood > EW > ARR > DT, taking into account all "post expansion" arcs (many people will try to justify/simplify their ranking of an expansion by excluding x.1 to x.55 patches, kind of a similar rationale to not considering Voidwatch as part of Wings of the Goddess I guess).

Damn, Vyre's ranking is exactly how I'd personally rank them, except maybe for ARR being higher than EW.
I really loved HW. By far my favorite expansion that introduced my favorite ally (and future scion).

It legitimately needed to die. I was an alpha and beta tester. We warned them.

Each expansion is about as long as any FF single player game. BUT!!! There is lots of side content. It is possible to put several hundred hours in each one.

There is also a free trial which includes the first two expansions. It has social and economic limitations. https://freetrial.finalfantasyxiv.com/na/

I'm still not through it all because I get bored of 4hrs of cutscenes with 45mins of gameplay sprinkled in. The 'post-expansion' quests really kill me every time. But if it's your thing, there's lots of hours of story to enjoy if you're starting from scratch.

Ironically, that was the main reason I can't get into Triangle Strategy. It's got sooo soo sooo much exposition, with like 5m of gameplay in between.

Looks like the right to protest is about to go wayside since being at a protest that turns into a riot from a handful of malicious actors means you're guilty even though you didnt partake in the riot.

Super hot take = super dumb take
