Watching the Best Friends Play of FFX and I legit am angry at how completely negative and ignorant of blitzball Matt was. He just shits all over it because watching or reading a 5 minute tutorial is too much for him I guess. This ruins it for Woolie and then he starts tearing into it too.
Didn't equip Jecht shot, never stopped to pass, never did a breakthrough unless they tried breaking through 4 guys. Ugh.
Blitzball is not only good, it is EASY. If you play video games as a profession making money doing it, take some *** time to not suck at it and not just ***all over something because you are lazy.
I also hated Blitzball when I first played FFX, but eventually warmed up to it after a few playthroughs over the years. The last time I played (FFX Remastered on PS4) I actually spent a great deal of time playing it until I had a perfect and unbeatable team set up for it.
Turns out it's actually a lot of fun, but like you mentioned, it requires a bit of research and effort to get into, also, the game that it forces players to play in the storyline probably gives a lot of people a really bad first impression.

I would posit that being a trumpet player around other trumpet players is the closest thing a man can come to feeling like a woman around other women. Sort of friends, sort of ready to cut a ***.

Then I treated it as a crappy version of the Captain Tsubasa soccer rpg's and it became enjoyable.

Sure, there was some significance towards the numbers on the card, but it still was random as ***.
