I think the major content in XIV comes from playing and gearing all the different classes/jobs... which works for some more than others. EDIT: extra note. Repeating same two dungeons over and over will suck... but honestly it sucked even when it was three. You zerg everything at once and then don't do anything with others though

They were going at a one on one off type deal before 3.0 but they lost momentum after.
Oh sweet, got a critical success on a "find the lost ship" admiralty mission and got an ultra-rare one-use ship card from it.
 There's only one rarity tier higher than that, and I'm pretty sure there aren't ship cards for that tier yet. Think it's gonna be reserved for named ships like the Enterprise. There's still stuff to do, it's up to you whether you want to do it or not. Saying there's no content is just a lie though. Some of it IS short lived but it's still something to do. You also don't have to speed through everything all at once, you can pace yourself and spread it out and try stuff with friends instead of just zerging everything with randoms. Of course it'll get boring.

Since 2.0, you spam the same handful of dungeons to cap tomes, either do coil or tower and nothing else really to do. I love all the people who are like "theres TONs to do! just get items for glamour or feed your chocobo or go racing!"
Then they say "oh you don't even have all the jobs to 60 or all the relic weapons!" Then you realize these are the same people who quit XI saying it was dead and boring and yet I bet they didn't do all the content or level all the jobs or have all the REM and certainly didn't continue to do the chocobo racing or mini-games in XI. Yeah it wasn't really directed just at you, sorry. Meant that most players only do the weekly 24 man and maybe expert dungeons and then log off because there's "nothing to do" and it's a bit ridiculous
Edit: The ones I've seen do this haven't even tried the other content so they don't actually know if they like it or not Constructive criticism is fine (and things you wanna see in the game) but all the "lol XIV sucks" type posts are unnecessary. The same goes for "lol XI is dead" ***, it's stupid as hell.

Just because you like apples doesn't mean oranges automatically suck, which is as good of a comparison between the games as you're going to get.
