Well you see... Marines are globally known as Naval Infantry. They serve under the Department of The Navy, and while they do have their own separate branch in our country, they still ride in Naval vessels to get where they need to be.

In ye olden times they were basically extra muscle to put to use in landing parties, but also to keep Captains safe from mutiny.

Dad used to strongly stress the fact it was a different branch. XP He never enjoyed the Navy branch no matter how closely he worked with them nor the fact everyone else in his family served in the Navy changed his mind on that.
