I have expanded my alcohol pallet (or alcoholism however you want to see it) into the scotch world. My very first scotch is Glenfiddich 15 year.
While I almost always drink my rum over ice to dull the burn, I was told that I would be brutally beaten and shot if anyone got hint that I didn't drink scotch neat. So... I drank it neat. I was also told that the 15 year is worth the extra $20 over the 12 year, and if I was insistent on cheap scotch just get Johnnie Walker Black. But when I said the Glenfiddich 15 year was $52 cash/debit, was told to "just buy it."
Wow.
That pretty much sums it up. Very happy with my first purchase into the scotch world. I really can't believe in just the couple of years that I have been expanding into aged rums I have developed my pallet that much.
It smells like green apples, with a hint of honey, and just a pinch of sea salt. The taste is just as pleasing. Lightly sweet, very smooth. Virtually no burn, with just a smidge of heat on the finish. After taste continues the mild sour of apple and is a little spicy.
Well worth the $52 assuming I can control myself and not drink half the bottle tonight. I'm sold on scotch and will be exploring the scotch world with great zeal now I believe since I've basically tapped out the rum world.
