The work boys are brutal. Brutal!
Ok, so, CCL drives everyone crazy. She drives the boss crazy because she whines about petty things, she instigates arguments on purpose, and when he says to build something that she doesn't want to build, she conveniently can't find the materials for it and states that we're out. (So then we order more and two seconds later someone finds the materials that she said we are out of. Case in point-- today upstairs assembly needs 30 black actuators. Boss man told CCL to make them on Friday. CCL said we were out of actuator housing. We all went home for the weekend. This morning Boss man asked me to make actuators, I went out to get the materials, and lo and behold, there was a big box of actuator housings right on the shelf where they were supposed to be. Derp.)
She drives the boys crazy because all she will talk about are her kids (and how much they don't love her,) her cats (to three guys and a girl who all dislike cats,) and religion (in a room full of people, NONE of whom agree with her religious views.)
So. CCL gets Mondays off. Today I'm sitting there putting together the actuators she was supposed to do on Friday, and the boys tell me that they have a plan to make CCL "change." CCL is a 62 year old woman who's been set in her ways for 62 years. She's not going to change.
Anyways, whatever. The boys' plan is, we all stop talking to her and ignore her and be short with her until she starts behaving. Peer pressure, you know.
And I... I can't. What if it was me? What if I was a 62 year old woman with no friends, who's kids dislike her, who has no one for company except five cats, who came to work only to find out that everyone at work dislikes her? I told the boys I wouldn't do it. They said it was nice to feel sorry for her and all, but all her problems are self-inflicted. She was married and had friends, she divorced for no other reason than because she wanted "independence." She has spent the last 20 years trying to live her kids' lives for them, to the point of trying to name their children for them. She chooses to bring up topics that she knows no one else enjoys. So yes, true, all of her problems are self-inflicted. But it doesn't keep me from pitying her.
So now I am stuck in a moral dilemma. Do I go along with the evil plan to force CCL to behave herself at work, thus making the work environment more suitable and enjoyable for everyone? Or are CCL's feelings more important to me than everyone else's happiness and work satisfaction? At what point do one person's feelings outweigh everyone else's annoyances? At what point does everyone else working together to delete their annoyances equal just everyone else ganging up on one woman to bully her?
I already told the boys I wouldn't do it. At what point do the boys get mad that I'm not going along with it and start bullying me too? Even if they don't start bullying me too, at what point do I feel sorry enough for CCL to tattle on the boys to Boss man and end their fun, and potentially end their jobs?
That's rough, Leila-bug! I don't think I would be able to give someone the silent treatment either, no matter how annoying they might be. That's a rather infantile plan on the boys' part also.

What if I was a 62 year old woman with no friends, who's kids dislike her, who has no one for company except five cats obviously: get more cats.
(jk)
joke aside, it is a work environment, not doing what she is supposed to and lying about materials and double ordering them can get someone written up, or even termination.
also it isn't the place to make friends or bring problems from home to... not saying that having or making friends at work is a bad thing.
just go with what you think it is right.
aand I lost my train of thought :/

It does seem like a rather childish plan on the boys' part, and like it would be very easy to backfire and just make everyone miserable. I'm not sure that talking to the bosses about it would do much good, though. My immediate supervisor is the one in charge of CCL also, and he does not actually have the authority to fire anyone or anything like that. And he knows about the problem-- she drives him absolutely nuts. Taking the issue higher up the ladder would feel a bit like going over his head (or behind his back,) and it's also a really petty set of complaints. She makes everyone mad, but what are we supposed to tell the Big Boss? "She makes me uncomfortable because she talks about things she's passionate about!" Seriously? Lol, that conversation would end with everyone whining about her getting told off, and not unjustly so.
Honestly, if it was me, I'd just ignore the problem. I have a set of headphones, when she gets to bothering me too much I just put them on. Problem solved. She doesn't feel like I'm ignoring her because I'm listening to music, and I don't have to hear about how Jesus was talking to her earlier today.
But the boys aren't so keen on just ignoring it. They'd rather solve the problem than ignore the problem. ;; I kind of feel like I'm the only mediator in a really stupid war. And I never signed up to a mediator! I'm just there to solder parts to boards. :/

That does seem a very passive-aggressive high-school sort of solution? The cold-shoulder until she gets the "hint" and changes her own behaviour to something they want?
Did anyone communicate to her what was making them feel uncomfortable? Does she even realise what the behaviour is they want from her, such that she could even change (provided she is perceptive enough to even pick up on the cold-shoulder bit?)
I would think it would be best to talk to her about it first, then if nothing changes, go to management and have them gently do it rather than make an uncomfortable work environment. If peers or management talk to her first, in a diplomatic HR-friendly manner, it might solve the issue. :/ Having more negativity in the workplace will just make everyone more miserable later no? Yeah... I would wonder the same thing. Has it been brought to her attention that no one likes the topics she discusses, or the way she discusses them? Has it been brought to anyone else's attention?
And you mentioned her being "unable" to find parts that were in plain view. That sounds like a job performance issue. Has management done anything to take care of that? (Not saying they should outright fire her for it, but she's affecting the whole company by not doing work that should be getting done in a timely manner.)
If both problems have been discussed with her before, maybe it really is best, though, if she just didn't work there? And having a legitimate reason to terminate her position would be best for everyone else.
That, of course, is worst-case scenario. No one should be fired just because their coworkers don't like the way they are.
That being said, you're also misusing some terms. What your coworkers have planned is hardly "bullying". It's not nice, but the real world isn't nice. They're excluding her, or as Schutz said, giving her the "cold shoulder"/ignoring/etc. But ignoring someone has never been a form of bullying that I can recall. Bullying is an aggressive act, not a passive-aggressive one. They're simply choosing to ignore being drawn into a situation that they don't like being drawn into.
It sounds like the woman is simply seeking attention... She can't get it from her kids/family/etc., so she's attempting to force it out of people that can't control whether or not they're around her.
The best solution sounds like it'd be for them to see about finding a place for her to work where she's a better fit, whether it's with people who can tolerate her better, people who are more like-minded to her, or (like I said, worst-case), removing her from the environment altogether.
But that's just my opinion.

could always promote her into another department lol More than simply writing a review, he could (and probably should) escalate it to whoever is above him, until it gets to someone who can do something.
The woman's personality and personal issues shouldn't even come into play. Simply take the job performance issue up the ladder and let workplace-nature take its course. Problem solved, without Liela having to be mean to a single person.
Unrelated, I was trying to find more information on that tube worm/fish/thing I was talking about a few pages back, and ran across this:

Any dog that was bred for bull baiting is NOT a family dog! It is genetically ingrained in them to be fierce! I wish people would finally wise up to that universal truth!

I guess I'm out of the loop, but what is she discussing at work?!? Apparently nothing, since they all try to ignore her. Can't have a real discussion if it's one-sided, right? :)
But Liela mentioned her discussing her personal life, pets, and (I can see this being the big no-no in the work environment as far as, "What she's saying really bothers me!") religion.
Like I said though, that should all be secondary compared to the work-related issues.

So I've only been working here a little over a month. Apparently on Saturday I handled 78 calls which is the 3rd highest call volume in a single shift. The other two above me had worked here for 3ish years. The highest being 87. You know what this means!? Challenge accepted!

It does seem like a rather childish plan on the boys' part It's pure Mobbing and shouldn't be done.
Before going to the next level inside the company work Environment issues should be dealt with by the Co-workers. Due to the decribed personality and Age I think the ignoring her Themes alone won't Break her Habit. Best Thing to do would be bringing up a new constant topic in the talk with which the most ppl can live and try to bind her in and guide her.

I have a question, but want to leave it out of the E3 thread since everyone there is so passionate and I don't want to deal with any sort of freak-outs and whatnot. (Plus, that guy is using Mag's avatar and it's bothering me.)
If outlets like Gamestop are hurting the gaming industry so bad, why don't the console developers simply open their own game stores that deal in new/used games for their particular system?
It'd be a pretty simple business model. Push the benefits of purchasing new copies (full warranty, replacement if the product is defective, etc.). Buy back used copies for more than the competition (like Gamestop), and re-sell them at a lower price than the competition (or choose to destroy them, taking them off the market completely).
But, that's just how I see doing it, without having to place limits on who can use a copy of a game and where.

don't complain when you go to work feeling tired I'll probably take another nap before work. When do I not complain though? Seriously, I'm surprised I haven't been boo'd out of this thread at this point. >.>
This is a thread that I found on another website I post at. It can be really really interesting. I thought it deserved a place here.
Post your random thoughts for the day here, or anything else that intrigues you.
For starters, is it possible to give constructive critism to someone who doesn't have a neck? I totally just walked by a girl who didn't. Someone isn't getting a necklace for Valentines day!
And who decided black and white can't be colors? I want to say a racist. I really do.
