Well, I wanted to /thf to ensure a crit on every ws. Less dmg variance and it made it easier to hit the top of my dmg range.

But really, with those mobs feeding me TP meditate wasn't really necessary. If I'd needed TP faster than the SA timer I could have just pulled more VNMs.

Now, if I needed a controlled amount of TP on each WS then that wouldn't work so well. But, for a test on a crit WS, TP was irrelevant with SA up.

Yeah most the ws stuff I test tp is important while critting is less so. Plus I mostly test magical ws ^^. Trying to get exact amounts and numbers/formula etc since wiki is usually wrong nowadays. Half the time it can't even what stats the stat mods are right let alone amounts lol so I have to start assuming those are wrong really. And well I don't have the patience to rework every last bit of a ws to ensure it's right to test something on something that varies as much as a melee ws lol

Has anyone else messed around much with blu/war off-handing a shield? Another LS mate with an almace does this all the time and still puts out solid numbers. I don't see much difference vs dual-wielding though.

Difference is you get much more out of a second sword than you do with a shield.

Even if you were /war you would most likely have dual wield 1 minimum from set spells anyway, unless you didn't set Quad for some reason.

It was more stemming from getting fencer at 90 (TP and crit bonus for a one-handed non-DW weapon).

If you guys get a lot of fun playing blue mage then more power to you. It's just a ridiculously useless job that can be outdone in every facet except yellow procs.

Also: You can up-rate your own post <3.

AoE burn!

It's also the most versatile job in the game and can hold its own DDing. Great tank too.

You're welcome to your own opinion and I won't counter all of it. In some form or another very few jobs cannot be outdone in most aspects. Blu is able to do quite a number of thing and can do it quite well, not best by any means but does it annoy you so much that people like blu that you feel the need to come in to a thread for blus who would like to make themselves the best possible and pick fights?

Grow up...

To get back on track, no fencer does not justify using a shield over a second sword ever. The extra hit on the WS from the offhand sword is much much more potent. Tell your friend to stop using a shield please =/. I hate seeing the Almace/Genbu combo. If you really need the -pdt then dual wield a shamshir +2.

If blu had any shield skill at all perhaps an argument could be made but even if it did, we still lack the trait to make blocking worth it with a size one shield for the interruption or tp gain.

Now if I could wear an ochain... I'd take that...

Would still be useless. A second sword offers much more than a shield ever will for BLU, since we can't wear things like Ochain. Well, to be honest, Ochain would really be the only shield worth wearing.

A sword in your offhand offers the extra DoT of the strikes it makes, the stats on the sword, and an extra 1 hit and, in extension, 1 fTP on your weaponskills.

I'm sorry, I forgot there is no such thing as high defense mobs anywhere in the game.

Assuming a dex 4 earring was out of the question for the time being, would you suggest a +3 to pair with brutal, or an attack earring? rest of gear would be similar to currently posted optimal sets.

You're severely underrating mob defense in Abyssea.

Almace will easily beat Badelaire if you can maintain aftermath.

Disregarding the ODD I look at it like this:

Almace
- Could be done solo, I guess but risk delaying it a lot
- Takes 3 to do it effectively, WAR/NIN/WHM for KI NMs and THF/NIN/WHM for the kill.
- Takes 2-4 hours per day depending on people fighting the NMs (assuming you take turns)
- Almost Requires brewing to get to 90 version

Badelaire
- Could be done solo on many jobs if you know the strategies (not hard to learn)
- Most people are willing to team up even with random others because a group of 8+ random jobs can usually clear the slime battlefield
- You get 0-9+ coins per 1 hour.
- 85 and 90 version are a joke

If you have 2 friends you can schedule with get Almace, if you can't depend on them to be on when you are. Or if you don't have 2-4 hours to dedicate regularly go with Badelaire. Not because you "can't" get Almace it is just a lot more ridiculous imo if you're solo.
