Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty

Has any SC or RTS fans tried this out? What do you think, if so?

I read so many glowing official reviews, yet also so many under-whelmed fan reviews (mostly griping about lack of some features like LAN support and battlenet support or something?) and it is hard (for me) to tell if this is a "wait for Blizzard to fix it up a bit with DLC" or a "must-get" thing.

LOL Amazon's ratings (not scientific by any means, but certainly a cross-section of fans/average users/vocal haters) seems to be extremely polarised...

I'm sure all of those 'PC Bangs' in S. Korea will be hosting this, but it's hard to get a figure on how Western players regard the initial release (and seemingly 1/3rd of a game.)

Been playing since the beta, it's a great game... I'm just pissed cause I suck. I just installed the retail version, bout to try out some single player.

It's awesome. Utterly awesome, the improvement over the first SC is immense and it's definately worth buying. The people that complain are retards who think that "facebook intergration" actually has anything to do with the gameplay at all. And whoop-de-do, no LAN, play it online. Go buy it now.

I had trouble running it all beta, all low settings, and still laggin..

I'm not that great at RTS, but I did love Sins of a Solar Empire, is this game on par/better then that one?

I'm toying with the idea of buying a new pc

SC may have beat out C&C: Red Alert as my all time favorite strategy game, so I have to try the sequel

I've never played Starcraft. I can obviously respect it for being one of the best RTS games ever (At least the most popular), but I've still never felt like I actually want to play it. It's as appealing to me as God of War or something.

Now that you guys are free from NDA (yah, right...not like Team Liquid's site cared much about NDA) is a lot different from Beta?

And it's a bit smoother to run? Or lags more on the retail release overall?

Do you like strategy games at all?

I played the beta, was so fun. After a while of having my *** beaten I learned to hold my own ^^ ...when someone asked if it was my first day and they said it was theirs, it was a sign I was about to die ^^

Buy a new PC! Unless you like to spend all of your life savings and won apple products like I do, there are some great PCS out there at low prices. Hell, building one is easy and not too bad either ^^

I'm not generally an RTS guy either, but I thoroughly enjoyed SC2 beta. Most fun I've had in awhile with friends.

The only problem that's effected us so far is lack of LAN play. Most consumer routers and ISP connections can't handle 10-20 computers all playing on Battle.net through the same residential pipe. It actually makes in-person group parties impossible, which is kind of a big deal.

Jaerik and Scragg were blatant voidray rushers.

I've never even seen gameplay of the first one.

IDK :/ there are some people that still think SCI is better, and still try to hold tournaments for it.

No seriously, I'm curious but I'm playing FF7 and I'm too lazy to search Youtube.
Yet, I still have time to post...eh, whatever.

The single player campaign is the most fun I've had playing a RTS storyline; the missions are so varied and all the upgrades and cutscenes really keep me interested in continuing this awesome game.

Was gonna get this for my friend's birthday. What are minimum and recommend system requirements?

My big issue with Starcraft II is how high they hold the campaign and their lauded "Epic Storyline" so high for a game that was only remembered because it became a Korean national sport.


Hell, 4/5 people I talked to thought Kerrigan was a new character...



Now, don't get me wrong, the general mechanics of the game are greatly designed, in such a fashion that it's (Starcraft 1) easy to jump into, yet has those hidden layers of strategy and complex unit interactions, as well as ample room for player skill through superhuman micromanagement skills to really shine.


For example, a newb may only see a Science vessel as a detector, a veteran sees it as the most annoying harassment unit in the game, rivaled only by the Defiler.

Anyway, I haven't got Starcraft II yet, and probably won't until they release some kind of "It should have been this to begin with" edition with all three campaigns, for a standard 60.00$, especially since they took away LAN functionality.

That's why I use Razor 1911 and Reloaded cracks.

Also using a torrent site with a good community helps (demonoid, TPB)

Though it is as slow as all hell, 1.9% and it's been running all night.

To me, the fact that they made no LAN is the killer. We would sit in class and LAN all the computers together and have 10-15 people playing starcraft, it was just a blast every time. I wouldnt have any fun playing people i dont know.
