Prioritization is just not amazing, I don't think there's a universal agreement on *how* it should be fixed, just that it could be better.
Just Auto target the mob right in front of your face, not the one twenty yalms away behind a tree. It's the most clunky feature of this game still. Most can agree on that So you want it to be based on closest first?
According to SE's response to my inquiry from the AMA, it's clearly a design flaw. It's supposed to target the closest monster within auto attack range.
Quote: A: To determine a target, the auto-target system evaluates factors such as whether an enemy is close to the front of other characters within range. As you’ve pointed out, we believe the fact that it targets enemies outside of auto-attack range is an issue.
The system was sufficient back in the day when the game couldn’t gracefully handle as many monsters as it currently can; however, it’s true that it’s become less suitable for the battle styles of current players. There’s a lot of aspects to this that we’re unsure if we can adjust, so we’ll try requesting an investigation first.
It should be a setting in the menu to adjust it.

There is an addon that does just that - ATA.
But it's not like the built in auto-target, it basically re-engages more quickly than manual, it's not instant.

I've quickly skimmed your pull request from yesterday, but I do not have time to set aside to review the request in detail for approval/edits.
Fair enough not sure if there's anything I can do to help? I understand limited time frame on free projects it took me long enough to do what I did. (also not sure if perhaps if its just easier to download my version and play with it vs. reviewing something line by line). Everything but my changes should be sync'd to your latest version if you just manually diff the files. (and the changes I have to gear.py are just extra gear and/or format and can be discarded completely)

Lag is absolutely not better in Japan and things like the lack of performance in Dynamis [D] and Odyssey are exactly the same. There was literally a 14 page thread on this and on page 3 there are JP players saying they dont have that issue.
https://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/55724/gaol-unplayable-content-because-of-lag
Its been patched up since then to not be as bad as it was before.

Now I understand why Mireu is exponentially worse than even Dynamis.

It wouldn't be a remaster to begin with if they didn't change and fix things. Good news though, the OG version is included, have at it. I can play it on emulator for free and save $50 though. I want a Knights of Lodis remake more than this game.

If you mean to target non-engaged mobs (e.g. Sheol C) then I dunno, why would they want to make it even easier for us? I wish they would just let us cleave that ***now it is so old and mundane.

tbf the game is HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE easy with rangers so if they can fix this it will be nice, but then it also is not the same game.
I'll be honest, I don't understand the obsession with things remaining the exact same. "It wouldn't be the same game"? Balance patches don't make FFXI a different game.
This remaster is a chance for the developers to exercise creative control and better execute their vision, both for gameplay and story.
Final Fantasy Tactics was notoriously poorly balanced. Some jobs are god mode, some are literally useless. The game offers absolutely zero resistance if the player has any clue about what's what. It had game-ending missions if a new player was unprepared and foolish enough to use one save. Meanwhile Chapter 4 is a boring slog of "kill the leader" missions which the player can one-turn one-shot with no preparation.
Rebalancing would only be a good thing (but is also pure speculation at this juncture). And a Hard mode is legitimately exciting.
I want to play a remake, flaws and all. This is not the same game the second the fix anything.
It wouldn't be a remaster to begin with if they didn't change and fix things. Good news though, the OG version is included, have at it.

This is the biggest problem with this entire paper, the whole point of LRM is that they DO USE MORE COMPUTE, INTENTIONALLY,
except they allowed a 64k token limit and none of them used the full 64k, so they were not compute-limited Not sure where you are seeing this when the graphs have up to 200k tokens, etc.

Ugh, this is *** ridiculous. AI upscaled textures and new UI = £60 plz.
...It isn't just those things.
* The lighting is completely redone, making the maps look better.
* Full voice acting.
* New animated cutscenes.
* "Extensive adjustments and additions to the story."
* New difficulty modes.
* And if Tactics Ogre Reborn is any indication, probably at least some degree of rebalancing.
$50 is a pretty reasonable price for all this. Same as Tactics Ogre Reborn was. That's sub-full price even before this generation's price hikes. Plus these things are always available discounted on Steam via other retailers (-20% on GMG already, making it $40).

That worked for devs in the past Panta, but AAA games are so expensive now they need the sure thing to balance it out when the risky stuff fails.
FF1 of course was named because it was their last ditch effort before leaving the business, and it worked. Then the Spirits Within movie almost bankrupted the company. Enix saved Square, and so they survived again. I'm not sure a studio could survive something like that today.
Bethesda made dozens of versions of Skyrim over the years. How much of that cash cow money was spent on Starfield development and not realized as profit because the game didn't do well? Microsoft didn't even bother to get it on Xbox, which is really telling.

@afania
The pre 2008 dial up pace of zero quality of life adjustments speeding up the game (and hours needed to even solo some jobs to level 5 for example) if that had persisted while the rest of the gaming world sped up and evolved, we would have seen a lot more people jump ship due to SE failing to listen to user feedback etc
It absolutely had to speed up back then to stay with the times.

Honestly the instance lag is not the first thing they should spend resources on.
The completely broken in today's game auto-targeting should be the first thing to be reworked. Which they said they would but haven't.

The problem with XI is the 56k data cap, it's been asked over and over to fix it and they keep saying the original programmer hacked solutions by using that 56k cap (same with 30fps) as a crutch for various timing stuff but that's honestly not a good enough answer.
They need to hire a programmer on / or take one from XIV for a while and get them to remove the 56k data cap (just as they have done before, and did with the character race change).
This is a game that makes millions a year, and will still be around 10 years from now. It's not acceptable to just leave it as it is when it's making the game worse.
They spend unlimited money on crap that closes in a month, yet they can't invest in something that has a loyal audience.
There is a problem with people using 3rd party stuff, making the issue worse but that's a reality of the game and so they need to fix the game up to take it into account. Get rid of the 56k data cap.

FFXI still makes millions becasue it has carved out a niche that nobody else can or will invade on (and if they try, they are low budget shitshows like pantheon), they can't change the game too much or they will lose that niche.
They just need to allow the 40-50% who play solo/casual to be able to make progress too (in an osrs type way).
XI is like an indie band that has a core passionate audience, and XIV is like Taylor Swift. Even though XIV has far more players, who spend far more on cash shop stuff it also have very very high dev costs with a large team constantly needing to pump content out due to the short term nature of the content.

Btw, I must say the PSP version of FFT was amazing.
I actually sinked 200h on it to make Ramza capped in all attributes available to cap.
The endgame was awesome and the nultiplayer was great too.
If they add an online version of it, maybe I can reconsider, to play PvP or coop, it would surely increase the replay value of it Hmm, I played it a lot but if you know how to manipulate it so yoou get the dark gear the game becomes a joke.

I'll play it on switch emulator cus I ain't paying for this.
It is dumb that you either have to choose enhanced gfx+new UI OR old graphics and old UI. What if I want to play old UI+enhanced graphics? Would cost them nothing to have added this.
Anyway, this is a ***game compared to Tactics Ogre and Knights of Lodis. Those games are so deep in the development system like nothing has come out in the decades since as deep as this.

Not to my knowledge. By default, packetflow is only active in instances, so most of the time it will actually have no effect.
I personally suspect the same restraints that leave SE unable to address the core problem also leave them unable to analyze who is using this. If they had the resources, I would hope they would fix the problem instead of spending them figuring out who to ban for using a crutch to hobble around it, but ultimately any 3P usage is a ban risk.

Twitch is a great example of this. Watch any new release and see hundreds of thousands of people foaming at the mouth with reasons that particular game is the worst thing in history. Most have very little actual knowledge or interest in the game itself and just want to stir the pot. They read a lot like many of the posts on any fansite, FFXI is definitely not unique in that regard.

It is a red flag about how they are having so much trouble to reinvente, having to resort to a game that is already over and over being released (not as a remaster), but to the point I already played the original, the PSP version, and personally Im done with the game: both mechanical and story wise there is very little room to impress me, and potentially many others like me.
The entire industry does this, and for good reason. It's cheaper than coming up with risky new ideas, and guaranteed profits. Without these types of releases, you'd see many fewer unique titles.

I haven't had an opportunity to play without any gearswap users because *gestures at everything* but FWIW my dynamis group NEVER has a full alliance of characters playing. At most we have...12? Sometimes as few as 9? And 3-4 of those aren't using any addons.
