Ugh, this is *** ridiculous. AI upscaled textures and new UI = £60 plz.
...It isn't just those things.
* The lighting is completely redone, making the maps look better.
* Full voice acting.
* New animated cutscenes.
* "Extensive adjustments and additions to the story."
* New difficulty modes.
* And if Tactics Ogre Reborn is any indication, probably at least some degree of rebalancing.
$50 is a pretty reasonable price for all this. Same as Tactics Ogre Reborn was. That's sub-full price even before this generation's price hikes. Plus these things are always available discounted on Steam via other retailers (-20% on GMG already, making it $40).
Expedition 33 is $49.99 and is game of the year. Just adding some context around value here.

Square Enix is a complete and totally mismanaged company. I expect nothing other than for them to go bankrupt and to make bad decision after bad decision.

The story? It does not hold a candle to Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX, or X. It lacks the emotional depth, pacing, and cinematic execution that made those titles unforgettable. But FFXI has much more scantily dressed jailbait girls, one in every storyline.

Let’s be honest for a second and I say this as someone who deeply loves Final Fantasy XI.
We all carry a lot of nostalgia for this game, but that doesn’t mean we should confuse it with perfection. FFXI has never truly been a great game by objective standards. That is not an insult, it is simply the truth.
The story? It does not hold a candle to Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, IX, or X. It lacks the emotional depth, pacing, and cinematic execution that made those titles unforgettable.
The gameplay? While unique and addictive to us long-time fans, it never truly competed with other giants of its time. Lineage, World of Warcraft, Aion, TERA Online, Phantasy Star Online, Phantasy Star Universe, even Guild Wars they all offered smoother systems or more accessible combat. FFXI was always an acquired taste.
As a lifelong RPG fan turn-based, action, you name it. I can tell you that most people I tried introducing to FFXI never made it past the tutorial. It simply did not click with them.
That said, I genuinely like what the team is doing with the Limbus revamp. Hopefully Einherjar, Nyzul, Salvage, Dynamis-Outerlands (Xarcabard and Beaucedine), Dreamlands, Voidwatch, Legion all of it gets the same treatment. Keep the endgame alive. If the game enters maintenance mode someday, at least give us 7 to 10 solid endgame events for our Linkshells to enjoy.
Now, about a potential FFXI-2, remake, or remaster… a remaster sounds the most realistic. Maybe re-release one expansion per year. But to be honest, private servers have burned people out. Too many players are exhausted from the classic experience.
If it were up to me, I would focus on a reinvented FFXI Classic level 75 cap, all jobs available, full endgame content from every expansion, and gear that feels modern but scaled to level 75: 25% Haste, Double Attack, Triple Attack something fast, fun, and rewarding ala-retail.
We’ve already played Nasomi, Eden, Wings, Horizon. How many times can we restart the same story? At some point, classic becomes repetitive, not nostalgic.

I know Xenogears remaster will never happen due to rights Isn't SE the IP owner? Yes, SE owns XG in its entirety. Bamco owns XS entirely. The latter just plays nice with Monolithsoft and allows usage of some of it for XB stuff.
On a related note, when SE released the Chrono Cross remaster, they put up a 1 hour or so interview on their channel with a number of folks including Kato and Mitsuda, and Mitsuda mentioned that he was surprised when he was called in to work on the music for a CC remaster before an XG remaster as he expected XG to get one first.
The real rights issue from the era for SE is Parasite Eve.

I ran into an issue with latency a few months ago. My ISP had done some maintenance that had caused me to start DCing and lag spikes randomly and was becoming very frustrating. XI is pretty old and has lots of spaghetti code so there are certain times where lag and things cannot be avoided. I have a friend who plays 100% vanilla and says that he never experiences the lag that most people talk about. Besieged, dynamis, domain invasion, and maybe sortie are probably the most common events that people experience lag. My 2nd suggestion in the list below ended up being a good temporary fix until the rest of the issues seemed to resolve themselves overtime.
Here are a few things to consider that might help alleviate the latency issues:
1- if your gearswap and/or other peoples gearswap are firing off several switches in a crowded area, this will certainly cause some lag.
2- To troubleshoot my random DC issues and input lag, I tried using a VPN connection to a VPN server in Tokyo Japan. This fixed my DCing issues and gave me a more consistent latency, but it did increase my average latency my about 100ms compared to "normal". (playable, but still noticeable)
3- there are certain 3rd party programs that can allow you to hide NPCs or PCs from your screen. Although this isnt usually desirable, it may help you figure out if your PC is able to keep up with the high-lag events by reducing the load on your PC to see if that helps reduce the total amount of lag you are getting.

About Drain sets, the set in the main post of the thread seem to focus on Dark Magic Skill and Drain Potency exclusively, as opposed to utilizing things like INT+ and MAB+ accessories. I'm just wondering if that is optimized. I'm not sure how much INT/MAB play a role in determining Drain Potency
http://www.ffxiah.com/item-sets/349380
For example I'm wondering if things like Malignance Earring or a INT+30/MDmg+20/MAB+10 cape wouldn't be better for Drain. But maybe the approach taken for mage nuking sets isn't applicable here.

While enabled what zones does this run in by default? I know Byrth said instances but I am not entirely sure what falls under that umbrella and just want to make sure I know exactly when it's running

for instance a blm mob is going to be on the that has the biggest potential to wipe an alliance and so killing that first is a good idea
Don't think it has anything to do with this, because if you are in dynamis and there are pets or somewhere with a weak wyvern, it will automatically default to those first over a real threat. If you pull all of the same monster, this logic can't apply, so there must be some other condition that accounts for it.
I believe (it may have been said before) that it picks its target left to right from within your peripheral, based on mob ID (a numerical value assigned to every mob), and it probably cycles it in numerical/alphabetical order. But I'm not specifically sure about the order part, because it almost always seems to pick monsters far away from you. It happens too often for it to be coincidence, or maybe its a flaw in my memory where I am mentally ignoring all of the times it picks close mobs and only recognize when it picks far away mobs. Either way, totally should not happen.

Didn't they adjust ISP routing when Odyssey came out and was literally unplayable? I know they acknowledged it and changed something but don't remember what. That was the last time I remember having noticeable lag.

If enabled, it drastically reduces load times when zoning. Incredibly noticeable especially if you have multiple wardrobes. Honestly its in my top 3 all time best QOL improvements to the game.

Epic Games publishing a new game, it's about a bunch of black people looting from museums. It's called relooted, pre-order now!

The targetting seems to prioritize monsters that the original developers considered the most dangerous, for instance a blm mob is going to be on the that has the biggest potential to wipe an alliance and so killing that first is a good idea.

Carbuncle.Maletaru said: »Without such measures, you’re at the mercy of general latency and won’t see any real improvements unless you move significantly closer to Japan or California if they still have a server hub there.
Lag is absolutely not better in Japan and things like the lack of performance in Dynamis [D] and Odyssey are exactly the same. There was literally a 14 page thread on this and on page 3 there are JP players saying they dont have that issue.
https://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/55724/gaol-unplayable-content-because-of-lag
Its been patched up since then to not be as bad as it was before.
Yeah I can name drop the people if needed but they clearly weren’t having the same experience I was, most certainly, and one of them actively uses gearswap as he and I used to exchange Luas often. He was stationed in Japan for 5 years last I heard so he might still be there? But it sounds like Maletaru might have also been militarily-deployed there and it still sucked *** through a straw so regional latency may be out the window?
Now I wonder why some folks are completely unbothered by it. I believe some people here on FFXIAH already tried going 100% Vanilla and still got hit with it? Even as a simple 12-man? I would have to DIG to find that post.
As Thorny and others said, SE really should be prioritizing a permanent fix for this problem. Makes certain content unbearable. Just imagine if Limbus v2 has this EXACT same issue; no one will want to touch it unless the rewards are ridiculously good

You should use the tool where you need it, don't start using it everywhere like a pleb. If that becomes normalized for enough people like that, the server engineers that track data use may actually point it out as an issue.
Using this is like walking around with no pants on, it's ok around the house but if you suddenly think you can do that everywhere you're gonna start some trouble.

Does anyone ever get a bug where 1 or a few of their buffs on the buff list are just blank/invisible?
Sometimes if you goto a home point or something the model doesn't load and you you have to move out of range and back in for it to load. The buffs can rarely do that same thing, and you can force it to reload by changing the menu option.

Out of curiosity what's the reason it couldn't be a Windower addon/plugin. I imagine if the auto targeting could be adjusted it would have been done already

Thinking about giving this a shot. Curious, is there any known instances of characters being banned for this plugin/addon? Maybe you'll be the first! Take one for the team. Be the change you want to see in the world.
