The AM3 with a regen 4 and blocking makes it look very appealing to be even at R0.

Block rate is only on the Augment, FYI. Excalibur R0 offers nothing defensively other than regen/refresh, which requires you to be very regularly WSing (and not using Atonement). Regen AM is also basically a meme. The potency is weaker than any WHM and about 1/4 of a SCH. It's better than nothing, probably...but I'd rather have FC or +enmity on my sword than WS-dependent regen.

For weapon/shield combos… how does Excalibur with either Priwen, Aeonic, or duban s2 fair? I know Burt is the staple, but it’s NOT(edit) on the table currently.

You sound kinda like me. I made Excal because PLD is not one of my highest priority jobs and Burtgang was not on the table (other jobs in front of it in line for Mythics). Also, relic currency was really cheap at the time.

I like mine (R15, which I'd consider a must) and agree that I feel like I can do anything with it at a competent level, even if not ideal. The AM is pretty nice, block rate pairs really well with Duban and Srivatsa (and Priwen, but I very rarely use that any more), and KOR is a pretty good WS for damage and Fusion/Light SC purposes (great opener for your other Sword friends to close Light with their Savage Blades, for instance).

I don't get any use out of it for Aminon, because I don't regularly do Aminon and if my people brought a PLD it's highly likely that would be someone else and I would come a different job - but that's a potential use case too. I'm more using my PLD for stuff like Ambuscade, Dyna[D], Omen, messing around in Limbus, occasional lower tier Odyssey NMs - all places where I feel completely fine with Excal.

That being said, I do sometimes feel a little lacking in my enmity retention compared to my more serious PLD friends with Burtgang, and now that I've gone through my other higher priority Mythics I do intend to make a Burtgang later this year. Also dragged my feet a bit due to dreading the Atonement killshot trials, but sometimes I'm in a masochistic mood so I'll just take my time and eventually grind through it.

Yeaaa, same boat it seems! As nice as Burt is, it's not the radar for quite a while and I'm in no rush for it. That said, I'm at a point in my accounts progression where if I want to start playing a new job I set a certain bar for myself; which is usually gearing it decently geared before use. I did this recently with SAM where I didn't really start playing it until I completed a Masamune.

Excalibur seems like quite an attainable weapon acquire and use but I've known it has fallen a bit out of favor with Burt being king and the goal of most PLDs. The AM3 with a regen 4 and blocking makes it look very appealing to be even at R0. The shield pairings I was also wondering about with it too. R15 with several shields look like a blocking machine.

Would largely depend on if you're using r15 excal and/or if you're using its AM without either its just a regular sword and can be swapped to almost anything else and be better off(more enmity, -DT, shield block etc)

What would be some alternatives to use instead? I know Sakpata's sword has been mentioned to me for the HP, VIT, and -DT. Nixxer as well, even if that does seem a bit entry level.
By maletaru on 2026-01-21 18:35:30
Enmity retention is nice (potentially), but i think the main killer bonuses for burtgsng are:

+23 enmity is huge
Bonus to Atonement hate is nice
-PDT II is nuts

I think a lot of people sleep on it since it's only 18, but when you're at 50%, another 18% reduction brings the damage down by 36%. For example, if you take a 1k hit, normally you'd take 500, then with burt it goes to 320, a reduction of 36% from 500. Especially in scenarios where you're also blocking and have phalanx, it can be the difference between taking 15 or taking 0.

It's almost the only sword you ever need to use and it's quite a bit above all the other options, IMO.

can you inject cutscenes, maybe create alternate dialogs for the characters in the scene also?

If you mean FFXI's real cutscenes, that's the major missing component of the asset-viewer. I didn't attempt to reverse engineer them, but there's some high quality documentation on how they work. I did actually implement a very basic cutscene based on this information (walking through the gate in Hall of the Gods), but ended up discarding that branch.

That being said, it would definitely be possible to make original cutscenes. The game-mode has extremely basic ones (like entering the Cavernous Maw's mouth).

Do you have a timeline of when more content might be added?

Thanks for playing! Unfortunately, I can only work on it during my spare time, so it's hard to provide a timeline. I'm currently experimenting with some side-content, and I hope to release a teaser for it soon.

I don't understand people who go into a store and ask employees where every item they want is instead of reading the *** signs. Hell, we have fulfillment and delivery. Just put in an order and stay home.

R17 on the NQs of those feet are @ triple 2%

Guessing it will be 1% every 2 ranks starting at r15, which will track with the 7% final value

This is what I was thinking, but that would put it at 7% at R27. I wonder if the augments were mixed up by slot and it should be 6% TA at R25 for feet? Then phalanx would finish by R30.

How would 7% progression be for legs then though if you think TA goes up only from R15 to R25? I don't think 1% at R15 and 2% at R17 means anything tbh. It can still goes to 6 or 7.

Maybe for legs, the second augment starts at R13 to get the extra level? My original guess was that the 2nd aug would start at r16, similar to the earring, so starting at R15 is a little weird imo. I'm still holding out hope that the second aug is finished by R25, but who really knows.

What does it mean when a group of ex-employees leave your company to make a small startup that then outsells all your products combined within a couple years.

Oh I remember. It means your company sucks. Yeah, that's it.

Based on Wiki augments it looks like Phalanx is the last stat for augments so it makes sense.

PSA Use 72 subcraft 122 main craft for this gear and you HQ2 often (Don't pay a lot of gil)

I use it often for Sortie.

Seraph > burning > flat > savage > KoR is my our D objective SC.

It’s also the best weapon for Aminon.

The AM is very good as well.

Doing a few hrs of nyzul is way less painful that grinding out 70+M gil (or farming the alex yourself in salvage or w/e)
I literally wrote up how you can get the alexandrite needed doing nothing more than one VD ambu a week

I saw, i'm pretty patient, and if i were doing it that way if I did 1 nyzul run after ambu I'd finish nyzul well before the 10 months it'd take to get the alex.

Not that it matters, I appreciate the opinions, obviously we all have different things some of us find more unbearable than others. (plus with ambu some have annoying fight mechanics or just finding people to do it with can be problematic, or people have the wrong jobs for meta strats)

My sense is if you took a 1000 characters and said cannonball run style come back with enough gil for 30k alex, the nyzul tokens or a crep item, the few folks who get lucky with drops (or HQ craft) would likely finish first (since there's 0 ways to short cut tokens), and there's probably a few players who can more consistently make that kind of gil quickly enough, although to be fair that's probably a least an hr of camping the AH for 303 stacks of alex and more time trading the rat, (maybe 10% of the nyzul time?) but no one doing tokens would finish in the bottom half.

Does just fine. Can do literally anything in the game with it. Shield is the only thing that would change depending on content.

I vaguely remember that the Mana Wall % term caps at 95% (base 50%, job points 20%, feet 25%), and thus you don't really benefit from Kaumodaki or Taranus's Cape unless you're trying to wear gaiters with mana wall up.

However, I can't find any testing to that effect. Does it exist? Am I hallucinating?
Found a discussion about it in the BLM guide thread starting here - https://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/49789/the-black-sacrament-a-guide-to-black-mage/12/#3389952

The 30th anniversary of the first release of Pokemon Red and Green is next month, so this year is being considered the 30th anniversary of Pokemon!

It makes me miss the forum user Chuuuuu! Heh

I've been rewatching Gen 1 Indigo League of the anime. It's so dopey and the dub is over the top, but it's super comfy nostalgia. Plus I never saw all of the episodes back then anyway.

Seems like Netflix is gonna run out of episodes after the 52nd episode though. Hmm. Dang.

30 years.. we are getting old. I hope there is a classic compilation game like some people are saying, that would be neat or something for the anniversary.

I met someone the other day named "Tai" and I asked them if they knew Digimon and they said no. Either I'm getting old or he lives under a rock, but both Digimon and Pokemon are old! 26 and 30 years old.
Digimon hasn't kept going quite as hard. It's considered niche now, I think.

Which is weird to think about, since it had several shows, and Ange-Womon is freakin' hawt. Like right up Zoomer's alley.

But yeah... We old! My oldest brother turned 45 recently, and one of my Sortie static members is somehow... appparently... 47 or some such and turning 48 this year (and he likes Pokemon too btw lmao we had a nerd out about how you could make a Naakual themed pokemon team even).

Using Gen 1 Pokemon:

Beedrill = Colkhab / Xevioso (though a newer one, Vespiqueen fits better honestly)

Dewgong = Kumhau / Arebati (a really really new one called Pao Chien or something fits better honestly)

Charizard = Achuka / Kalunga

Exeggutor = Yumcax / Mboze (though a more new pokemon Trevenant fits the bill better honestly)

Gyarados = Tchukka / Ngai (Sharpedo is more sharky but he's Gen 3)

Zapdos = Hurkan / Ongo

OK so, if Mastery Rank is affected by the extra skill you get through Master Levels and you want to juice it, these are the jobs and the skills they're best at:
* WAR - GA
* MNK - H2H, Guard
* WHM - Divine, Healing
* BLM - Elemental, Dark
* RDM - Enfeebling, Enhancing
* THF - Dagger, Evasion
* PLD - Sword, Club, Staff, Shield
* DRK - Scythe, Dark
* BST - Axe
* BRD - String, Wind, Singing
* RNG - Archery, Marksmanship
* SAM - GKT
* NIN - Katana, Throwing, Ninjutsu
* DRG - Polearm
* SMN - Summoning
* BLU - Sword, Blue
* COR - N/A
* PUP - H2H, Automaton x3
* DNC - Dagger
* SCH - N/A
* GEO - Geomancy, Handbell
* RUN - GS, Parrying

italics indicates a tie. From this, it looks like you could avoid SCH, DNC, and COR without missing out on any skill caps.
