Eh, 2k+ at peak times but these days it seems to be lower than 2k more often than not. I honestly think the rebase and time delay associated with it will be the death of the server. Too many people hit the wall and call it quits.

It is possible to name change, without a server jump.

Delete. Make a new one with the name. Call square and say oops, restore plx. It will come back requiring a new name.

That said, I don't know why anyone would want an assuran account after closure. Buy it and it gets banned in the sweep two days later.

Wasting your one time restore just to change a name seems incredibly dumb.

Basically always 2k+ online and nonestop shouts of content to do, but yes game is still stuck in COP era until rebase is done then TOAU will probably have server crashing with 5k+ playerbase. Once you 'beat' cop you kinda of just spam HNM or grind a relic, not much else to do until then.

How can you not remember that fight? It was literally one of the most memorable fights in the games history and Ultima/Omega with those same models were reused over 8 times thru the years of this games life lol.

hi mihgo!

does it run loud/hot when playing ffxi? wish I remembered the specs for the Omen laptop I had that did pretty much the same thing. eventually it basically bricked and I never did pinpoint the problem, just took the L and got a new one.

As a Gambanteinn owner and Max-Cursna-Enjoyer, I use Gambanteinn when I have Divine Seal active because it gives me an AoE cursna set without necessarily needing Yagrush. (I think with Cursna +216 or +221 and ML50's +50 Healing Skill (~588 Healing Skill maybe?), you get ~95.016% succes rate. (See: Cursna Calculator)

You can hit 100% Doom removal around ML25~30.

Assuming Windows 11, Did you disable Game Mode?
Yes. Disabled even before the problem started.

Felgarr said: »
Before I officially recommend the following, what are your system specs? At first glance, it sounds like you're using a laptop, some combined integrated+PCIE graphics card combination or that you are simply not using DGVoodoo (or dxproxy)
Dgvoodoo2 is in use and iGPU is disabled in UEFI/BIOS.

Intel i9-14900HX
NVIDIA RTX 4070, 8 GB
32 GB RAM, 2 modules of 16GB of:
https://www.memorybenchmark.net/ram.php?ram=Samsung+M425R2GA3EB0-CWMOD+16GB&id=26241
KIOXIA XG8 SSD 1TB

Nothing is overclocked or undervolted. All stock.

Worst case, and I hope this isn't true. But, you may be using an early Intel i9-13/14x00 series CPU that was recalled ~2 years ago due to some freezing/instability issues. (Intel extended the RMA period to 3 years too. In my case, they upgraded me for free from an i9-13900k to i9-14900k, but it took 2 weeks for me to buy the new CPU and 2 MONTHS to get reimbursed by intel. I sent an email every other week until they did it, but they're support guy was always responsive)
I am 95% sure only desktop CPUs were impacted, but it's entirely possible Intel was fibbing about that.

Felgarr said: »
0.) If this is a new PC build with 0-2 year old hardware, did you update your BIOS settings, device drivers (not just GPU) or check your manufacturer's release notes?)
First thing I did when I got this laptop was systematically update everything available on the manufacturer's website—BIOS included.

Felgarr said: »
1.) Disable thermal throttling of your CPU/GPU (this is to observe if freezing happens at the same amount of time as your previous observations). You'll want to use a program like HWInfo64 to monitor System/CPU/GPU temps to make sure you're not throttling or freezing due to high temperatures.
This sounds risky. I've run more intense 3D applications than FFXI without issue at a higher temp than FFXI can reach. What are the chances this affects FFXI specifically?

Felgarr said: »
2.) Completely separate from #1, you can go to your BIOS and enable/disable low power states for your PCIE devices. This is to ensure that your GPU isn't entering a low-power state (called C-states) that FFXI doesn't know how to wake-up.
I will doublecheck, but I think this is disabled.

Felgarr said: »
3.) Odd question: Have you replaced or added any third party power or USB cables in your build. (I could tell you stories of how shotty cables from USB devices have suddenly caused blue screens and PC freezes).
None. Or I should say, crashing occurs whether or not USB devices are connected.

Thanks for the ideas so far.

I have a trick for when your car is crazy hot during the summer. Before you get in a turn on the AC and run out or scream in the process, just simply get a spray bottle with distilled water and alcohol in it and spray into the car. It will cool the car very quickly. You can keep doing it after you got in and open all the window until the AC can get really cold.

If i take any threatening damage
I switch to my movement speed / regen set
And bee line it to the healer

Unless i pulled hate

I will note when it comes to cursna the easier solution is to just have people make good holy water sets, made a huge difference for soloing Shinryu and never looked back.

For the DD meatheads, know your distance and position!
You need to remember the DD meatheads are facing and have their curser locked on the battle target, the supports are outside of their view port. I think outside of roaming content like odyssey A-C and battlefields that need very particular positioning from all participants it's fair to expect the backline to make most corrections to positioning in order to stay in range.

Although I feel your pain cause I know how frustrating it is if you would have cast the correct spell just in time but get the out of range message even though people were close enough just a moment ago.

WHM was/is my main, until BLU came around. I always liked being a support class back in the day. I was a sorcerer in Dark Age of Camelot before FFXI (who remember that mmorpg?) and I was either going BLM or WHM when I first created my char.

The most frustrating thing about being a WHM today is that people are accustom to a whm trust and think they'll always get a cure, despite the dangers of the mob, that they don't realize they need to be near me for cures. It always urks me to press a macro only to be greeted with 'Out of range'. These seconds matter !

For the DD meatheads, know your distance and position!

Anyone remember yanran?
That player took being a gear Nazi to the next level
Whenever we played together
I'd tease him by calling him my Führer

I forget what fight we were doing but WHM needed a good cursna set
Had everything besides Gambanteinn but that *** wouldn't let me join

Around that time i had been working on Farsha and had most of the mats stock piled away
It pissed me off so much that i said screw it and went balls deep making Gambanteinn

The next time we played together i made sure to stylelock it
Gambanteinn ended up being overkill for that fight ><

Convert all the old Reisenjima WSD gear
Like the Valorous set to Phalanx now

Now that we get 6 DM augments/day, this should be decent to accomplish. You shouldn't have to go buying Dark Matter. (I mean, you can get Phalanx+3 and still be at net Inventory+0 when compared to Skirmish/Yorium gear. "Phalanx+4" is obtainable, but +5 has been very rare for me).

Anyway, the purposes of this thread is share your skills and passion projects, but I'm so happy that ya'll love shitposting as much I do.

Appropriating this thread for a similar issue I'm facing. I don't know if a Windows reinstall applies since this Windows install is relatively fresh.

Recently, FFXI will freeze for a few seconds before crashing to desktop without any error. This can happen minutes or hours after launching the game without any rhyme or reason. The Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application section contains something like this each time:

Sometimes LuaCore.dll isn't included. Just pol.exe.

From my understanding, 0xc0000005 is a memory access issue. I've done the following so far to remedy:
1) Reinstall Windower
2) Prune Windower plugins to find a culprit
3) Clean sweep and reinstall NVIDIA drivers
4) Tested RAM for errors (three different applications)
5) Checked SSD integrity
6) System file scan and repair
7) Malware and virus scan

No problems found, or no improvements made. I'm running out of ideas.

Windows 11 was installed about a month ago. No other applications have acted strangely outside FFXI.

How many are you using for a given set at a time? I don't use head or hands at all anymore. At most I only ever use 2 at the same time. It used to be an issue, but other gear has eclipsed it where it doesn't matter as much. I don't think I ever dip yellow.

It'd be helpful if you told us which pieces you were using for what situations.

Hey there, so I've been running into some pretty consistent, repeatable performance issues with Bars, and I was wondering if there was anything that could be done either on my end or within the add-on itself.

I've been noticing issues in Limbus specifically (though I've mainly been focused on only Limbus and Sortie lately, so I can't speak for other content atm). As I'm sure you're familiar, each Limbus zone (Apollyon/Temenos) is broken into four sectors. If I try to do a full clear of one of the zones without leaving (completing all four sectors without leaving Apollyon/Temenos in between), I hit some pretty serious frame drops in the fourth sector with Bars loaded.

In general, I hover around 60 FPS while playing the game. Throughout most of Limbus, I stay at this 60 FPS. However, in the fourth sector, I'm pretty consistently at ~40-45 FPS if Bars is loaded and I'm targeting a mob, and ~50 FPS if Bars is loaded and I'm standing idle without targeting anything. It doesn't matter which order I complete the sectors, it's always the fourth (last) one. If I unload Bars, my FPS jumps right back to 60 FPS. If I reload Bars, it goes right back down to 40-50 FPS. I've tried unloading all of the other add-ons I have installed just in case there was some conflict, so that Bars was the only add-on active, but the problem persisted.

Just to restate, unload/loading Bars does not fix the FPS issue. However, zoning away from Apollyon/Temenos and then coming back, does fix it. If I leave the zone to go do something else in the middle of the climb, I never encounter this problem.

This isn't a huge issue, I can just either push through the choppy frame-rate or leave and come back, but the fact that it's so predictable suggests that maybe a bug can be identified and something can be done. However, the fact that unloading/reloading Bars doesn't fix this suggests that maybe it's not the Bars add-on specifically, but something related to Windower or the game client itself? Maybe something to do with how it caches mob information since the Limbus zones are very large? I'm not sure, but I just felt I should report it in case anyone else experiences this problem.

This might help you, it's a little snippet of code I wrote to fix the Light element thing you said. Basically that flag is not really the element, it refers to what color to display - and both Light element and Physical weaponskills use the same white icon.
This sorts through that. Turns out there's exactly 10 light elemental weaponskills in the game, and no more.

Code
    local res = require('resources')
local light_ws = S{ "Shining Blade", "Seraph Blade", "Primal Rend", "Tachi: Koki", "Uriel Blade",
            "Shining Strike", "Seraph Strike", "Flash nova", "Trueflight",  "Garland of Bliss" }

            for i in pairs(res.weapon_skills) do
                local rline = res.weapon_skills[i]
local skill = rline.skill and res.skills[rline.skill].english or 'None'

                if rline.element == 6 and not light_ws:contains(rline.english) then
                    rline.element = -1
                end
            end

You can do the same for blue magic, but as you can see from here you need to categorize stuff manually.

Too many people rely on the calculator without knowing the basics
If I had 30mins I know what I would want someone to teach me
A Masterclass on the unwritten basics of life

Like
How to master teaching yourself and others

Far too many things out there that we take for granted that can be applied to everything

Understanding how to apply something everywhere makes you a true Renaissance man.

They say Mushashi after winning so many duels had a aha moment
Through the mastery of himself and basic skills achieved through battle
He was able to apply these to various art fields and other skill requiring fields.

Some say it's as simple as adjusting your perspective.
Just like mastering breaking down a problem can be applied everywhere.

Bro left Resolution and Tachi: Shoha(non Doji) off the list! Polearm can alternate Penta THrust and Camlann's Torment and fit right in.

Let's see... 30 minutes to teach... Something I'm good at...

I think I could explain the skillchain chart in about 30 minutes.

That skillchain third party tool is for lightweights.

Do people not understand the skill chain box?

Fragmentation fusion
Gravitation distortion

If you spam a bunch of frag weapon skills on top of each other without talking about the time limit they won't skillchain unless they have a lvl 1 that chains which is less likely.

It would be nice if they would add npcs to Selbina too and rotate old ambu fights there. We could have 4 ambu fights a month. Also it would give us another month with a fight that we’ve been doing.

MONKEY PAW CURLS

They add Ambuscade to Kazham, but the entry point is as far as possible from the Home Point.

I swear there was more than one home point there at one time

I would love to understand what type of fight misery is meant for
I mainly see whms just rock the cure skin

And I never see someone use ensuna or cura

Ensuna looks invaluable for some multi debuff sortie fights
