With the right safety measures in place and locked down, anyone can use your computer without *** it up. These days, people who put viruses on other peoples' computers do this intentionally, since no one is that brain dead to not know about the growing amount of internet viruses/bots/worms/whatever creeping around the web.

Point is, beef up your security, update your anti virus, and block certain URLs from being accessed.

Mmmm yea, I don't know how that worked out, I guess he pulled some Harry Pothead Magic out his *** to stick my computer with this crap =\
I just have Trend Micro, Ad aware and Norton on it but yea~ None of that really worked out =x
Gotta try that new stuff!

You've gotten some decent advice so far.

I've heard good things about SAS, and used it in a virus repair not too long ago. I believe I also had either Avast or Kapersky antivirus recommended to me.

When dealing with an infection, there's a few things to always remember.

1) Try to identify the virus ASAP. There will be catalogs of its behavior on the internet, so you can start preventing it from getting in deeper that way.
2) Minimize rebooting. Some virii won't really sink their teeth in until they've gotten a reboot or two, so try not to reboot your computer until you've started clean up operations.
3) Perform virus scans and repairs from SAFE MODE. If you're running in a regular user environment and trying to remove the virus, you're wasting your time.
4) People tried to start a browser ***-fight. Waste of time. A lot of viruses these days come in through Adobe vulnerabilities (bad PDF files or flash.) Keep Reader and Flash Player updated, because it won't matter which browser you're using if you view a bad ad.

Gl with the clean-up. Hopefully it's not a virus that gets in some deep you can't clean it out.

P.S. Rouge = a color, Rogue = turned bad.

QTF! Norton is a giant joke of an anti-virus system if you can't keep up with the payments.

Go with Avast Anti-virus, 5.0 came up and it has a better interface with the same great security. Registered ones get up to a year of free updates :)

watch something online?
i'm assuming it was TVshack... and its just most likely that shitty fake-virus that makes people buy their Antivirus software.

Jot down what the pop-ups are saying/symptoms, startup computer in safemode with networking (so you can run firefox) and google the symptoms. There's threads out there with the right files to trackdown/delete.... i just can't remember where i found them before to fix my own.

edited: malwarebytes software also helped with this process, the 2nd time I let tvshack infect my ***.

@ Haruku: Snag the Avast! free version from www.avast.com
It's got a resident scanner that doesn't suck up all your rescources, will take care of any incoming files, websites.... everything! it's pretty swish, and better yet, it's free >:3

My setup is:
Avast! (Free version
Ad-aware (From Lavasoft)
Spybot S&D
then with Firefox: Adblock and Noscript, usually does the trick. To be honest... I can't remember the last virus I got D: lol

G'luck to all! and have a pleasant day :3 ~~

Is this one of tihose weird viruses that aidd an i randomly into random words you tyipe? Tihose types of viruses seiriously suck.

But back to the point, I haven't had many issues with such an occurrence happening to my computer. I think it's only ever happened to me once. The worst thing that happened to me was my PS2 memory card being wiped clean after inserting it into one of my friend's PS2's (we were going to exchange FFX data I think).

One of my friends, though, had the peculiar ability to crash my computer whenever he sat at it. o.o; Anyone's computer actually.

I heard Common Sense 2010 is pretty good too, but it seems some people aren't able to run the software.
