Normal Mode Aminons should be dying in about 2:30-3:00 and your Hard Mode Aminons should be dying in about 3:30-4:00

Does this include pull time? Or are you counting from the first Chi Blast?

Not just cause change is hard. The intended mechanic needs you to keep casting proc element until magic happens and the wings go poof. It takes anywhere from 10-30 casts.

In the time it takes to cast all those you can just kite him and he doesn't do tp moves. Why bother with all the casting.

Once kiting was shown to be viable, easy and fool proof.. Why change a winning easy strat.

You also loose stutter step which seems to help alot with asb tp resist but maybe the faster kill time eliminates that concern.

Does it? It's only -30 Magic Evasion (basically 30 Magic Accuracy for Absorb-TP), which is not a whole lot. Aminon is fought with SV Troubadour Dark Threnody, which already lasts several minutes, and you can force it longer by singing SV thren then re-applying w/ Nitro, or resinging with SV Nitro after the RD/WC reset. In my experience, that's really all you need to land Absorb-TP, even from jobs with no Dark Magic skill. Plus, Stutter step is usually the last buff to go up to level 10, if at all; usually its Box Step to 10 > Quick Step to 10 > Refresh Box Step > Then Stutter Step but purely as an additional way to earn FMs. It's not really crucial to the success of an Aminon run from what I have seen. Other comps that don't use DNC don't seem to be hurting for that lack of Macc from Stutter Step either.

Of course, if/when SV Dark Thren falls of, it certainly helps if you have to re-apply a lower-potency Marcato Dark Thren when SV wears off. By then, you also will lose Bolster too, so you probably are in for a bit of trouble if you're down to relying on 30 Magic Accuracy from Stutter Step in order to land Absorbs.

Don't think I've ever been in a party that does stutter step on aminon. The physical accuracy one sure, not macc though. Between frazzle and threnody macc should be ok.

Which is when it does if it does. I know our cor occasionally has issues but agred otherwise.

Additionaly, obviously other groups don't have an issue. They are beating without a dnc.

Great post!!!!

Also one of the people who messaged for more insight lol.

Our group is super close to 9 boss and listing those SB sets was super helpful.

Before SB sets on H, we did try the strat of spamming spells to remove wings from Aita. It took about 15ish seconds for wings to come down. However, they came right back up what felt super fast and we all wondered why we took the time to remove as I think the wings come back on next TP move.

This could be due to no SB or that we have no aria / stage 3 only but we have been reluctant to try again.

Post your results with it after you test if you don't mind!

Thank you for taking the time to put this info out.

Do you know if you accidentally healed it with a skillchain? Still not subbed to game to try it myself, but I was thinking it was a possibility that the wings can instantly reappear if he absorbs magic damage.

FWIW my group regularly does this strategy without SB sets and Idris (not quite the same as not having Aria) but we haven't seen the wings and/or fetters return even after 4+ TP moves.

Note that we also make sure to proc Aita following his subsequent TP moves. We are also landing Chi Blast/Penance on the pull and kill Aita before Penance wears off.

We tried the "nuke the wings off" method tonight and I don't think I'll be bothering trying it again. By the time 4 nukers removed the wings, we could've had him to about 50% HP or even lower. I understand the point of removing the wings is to make the fight safer and not faster, but I believe the fight is already safe enough with Penance/Subtle Blow as you only have 1 set of fetters to avoid which is easy to execute. I also can't confirm what exactly keeps the wings down as we had them reappear in our attempt. We had someone heal it with a nuke, but the wings didn't instantaneously reappear at that moment. They reappeared about 10-15 seconds later at the same time Aita performed his next TP move. Either way, I plan to continue fighting Aita with our usual method, but I can see the wing removal method being helpful to newer players if clearer details are discovered.

Perhaps Bbreaks group has a specific cadence making the wings not respawn.

Question about Gartell:

The wipes we do get on Gartell typically come when a fetter spawn. I was reading bgwiki and it says they spawn at 3:00 but we get them early.

We typically let the mnk ws 1-2 times for hate, Brd opens rudras for closing darkness with Diarmuid which usually procs. We dont heal it with ws's either.

What is causing fetters to spawn within the 1st minute?

BG Wiki is wrong about a lot of what's going on with Sortie bosses.

Gartell will generally spawn fetters after TP moves after reaching a certain HP% threshold. Not always, but often enough. He's limited to 1 at a time, afaik, and my 8-boss melee group generally has him get out 1~3 fetters depending on RNGesus. We generally kill him in about 1~2 minutes(sometimes faster) depending on hand start (thunder start takes longer).

Another way wiki is wrong is Aita's DT build up when going unproc'd. Wiki says 5% every 30 seconds, but that would mean that Aita could only build 30% DT before enrage. If you ever fight him and your proc people die/lag out/fubar, and you don't get procs, he'll build to 95% DT in less than a minute.

I imagine there's some sort of timegate check that is also checking HP% remaining, and speeds up their mechanics appropriately.

Kite Gartell. Always the answer.

Pull with Stymie Grav. One person gets massive hate (PLD MNK WAR whichever). At ~30 seconds run beyond 20’ and everyone else kills.

Seems like SCs might be contributing factor? My group runs WSs:

Savage Blade (BRD), Savage Blade (COR), Tornado Kick/Dragon Kick (MNK), Black Halo (RDM), Judgment (GEO)

(We do end up with the occasional L1 SC that goes off because of Tornado Kick)

---

Editing to add this video link for JP Group doing the "Remove the Wings" method: https://youtu.be/p1XajhgnzzA?si=qPcMViKkEwMeGZVL&t=2005

They kill pretty darn slowly in that video. There's also a newer video that's on the same channel in which the wings respawn relatively quickly in case someone wants to figure out the trigger.

I wanted to also add that we used to just face smash Aita without SB with occasionally a casualty here or there due to poor coordination when fetters pop, dualboxing inefficiencies, and/or what not, but we're pretty optimized now where there's probably only like a total time difference of 20-30s (fully buffed, SV songs, Aria and all) between doing this method vs face smashing for us.

Definitely agree with this. My initial intent was to provide an alternative so that groups could remove the dependence on SB sets.

It's not always the answer lol. Our group handles Gartell fine without stymie gravity kiting. We prefer to save stymie to sleep Aminon at the entrance on pull so we can have time to fully debuff him before starting.

Kiting is the answer if you dont want to deal with the BS mechanics.

We'd kite Aminon too if it stopped his tp moves.

I could be misremembering, but isn't Aminon vulnerable to Bind? Distinctly recall Aminon blowing up and I was able to Sabo Bind it while people got back up. If so, could explore that (obviously don't waste a run testing it, but throw a couple Binds out and see if it sticks) as a way to hold Aminon for enfeebles before starting.

I happen to agree with Dodik and Taint, in that Gravity kiting Gartell is the better approach, just eliminates him out of the fight entirely. Braindead simple. But more than one way to skin a cat, so YMMV.

Aminon is what 4 debuffs max? Thren > Frazz > Distract > Dia3.

You don't want him slow or paralyzed.

In order of chance of things going wrong in Sortie its Gartell >>> Aminon > Aita > the rest. Kite that *** and the rest of the run is pretty mindless.

I think it's that people want to save Stymie for Sleeping Aminon due to him starting off with mass dispel. Our puller can outrange the dispel 9/10 of the time, but that 10th time when lag or timing isn't quite right, full strip on him. Not a big deal if its the Paladin, really big deal if it's the guy responsible for most of the damage.

Honestly Chainspell Sab Grav II might be better for MNK groups, you should land it within four casts and you aren't using CS anywhere else.

You aren't landing Distract without Stymie or being stupidly lucky. Debuffs are Frazzle III (duh), Dia III, Inundation and if you have time, maybe Poison II cause free damage. Slow II does nothing but Paralyze II slows down his damage quite a bit, which can be helpful to groups getting accustomed to the fight.

Been a while since I've done 9b but from my memory, RDM is Frazzle and Dia, I don't even think Distract lands without Stymie. 2 enfeebles. BRD is Dark Threnody which should land 1/1. Ten seconds max to apply debuffs and that's usually done while Aminon is getting in place.

However, I can understand sleeping it since in their comp, Monk has no real native way to get hate on it, so they're probably preferring to put debuffs on Aminon when it's not being damaged so they don't feed Aminon early TP and he's not running after people attacking before they're ready to start (one thing at a time).

Slow doesn't do anything at all to Aminon, paralyze is training wheels if you're trying to be safe (and it takes several casts to land Paralyze on Aminon).

Why do you not want Aminon paralyzed again? Because I land saboteur paralyze and it works well.

Also, we don't use distract.

Paralyze makes him auto-attack less, which makes him gain TP slower.

You want his TP gain to be relatively high, so you can absorb more TP and have more TP to do damage with.

More tp feed -> higher absorbs -> moar dmg -> faster kills.

As long as TP feed doesn't go above what you can safely absorb.

I can agree with not using Paralyze in DNC strat when 5 people rely on either getting hit or absorbing a respectable amount to deal damage, but in our MNK DRG setup where those two are 85% of the damage, don't require Aminon's cooperation to deal damage and end the fight in about 150 seconds, I see Paralyze as largely a positive, personally. I'll take the safer, lower TP feed over the ~10 second faster clear time. I won't say you're doing it wrong if you choose to avoid para to get your BRD/COR/GEO one more WS before your group kills him. I mean, I stopped using Icarus wings because I felt the fight was ending at a perfectly satisfactory speed, but I know I could/should still be using them if I wanted to optimize.
I can see both sides of the Para debate (in MNK strat). As an example, when Thorny released his Sealed Fate enspell strat, he strictly stated "don't use multi attack or temper", but I ignored that and risked running Temper 2 because "I want to do more damage!". We had a TP move go off which thankfully didn't kill anyone, so I took off Temper 2 and replaced it with Temper 1. We didn't see anymore TP moves so I used that the rest of the fight. We could've won the fight using a safer approach, but I went with the riskier one to see how much I could get away with. In Aminon's instance, however, I'm choosing to stick with the safer approach, largely due to the fact that we have more than enough time to do daily 9 boss/naakuals, and we only get one attempt a day and failing cuts our Galli on that day by about 33%.
