Yeah, I have had this quest active for over 20 years and set out on a mission to solo it. Of course, I forgot how much of a nightmare it is. I was really close to beating it last night. Rage inducingly close.
For those not in the know, this is an escort quest where you have to help Ken get through Dangruf Wadi without 1) letting him see you (he has extremely good sight), or 2) letting him die. This is made worse via several factors:
1. You are capped to level 10. You must do this on a healing job, preferably WHM.
2. When he kills an enemy, he almost always shifts back and turns around the way he came for a moment, so if you happen to be standing there... He will see you.
3. Enemies range from being super easy to pretty tough. You need higher level enemies to feel safe you have time to heal him. And of course, sometimes he gets ganged up on, which is rough because you can't risk standing behind him if he is about to kill an enemy.
Oh, and you can also aggro Goblins. They take a while to kill.
4. On two occasions he will just stop and turn around. At the start, and later on in a corridor of lizards.
5. MP may become an issue if you don't bring Food or don't have time to kneel.
6. You can't stop Ken. He will keep moving, and he may even decide to backtrack or go miles in a random direction to attack an enemy he sees. This can catch you out in tight spaces.
7. There's very little equipment to make curing any better. Also, when you are capped, I noticed it doesn't use ilvl gear for extra stats. This means you are stuck to around 30 HP a cure, unless you go out of your way to find low level gear.
Now, the typical response to this quest is:
Get a friend to kill all the enemies in the area to make it easier.
Of course, that is by far the easiest way to go about it.
So far, I have been gathering up the first two rooms of mobs, kiting them to the zone, and then killing with Banishga. They respawn in 5 minutes. Zone out and in, pop Afflatus Solace (still gives Stoneskin on Cure) and then start the quest. This makes the first part much smoother.
PS: Ken can go to hell.
