However, since DNC is used in the first KI, RDM is free to use Mpu Gandring/Ruthless Stroke if he has it for KI2.
Mercy Stroke is way stronger at 1000TP than Ruthless. It's not even close.
Ok. That's fair if we assume you will always WS at 1k though, right? You have to do that with Mandau, but I'd imagine with Temper II and the fact you're TPing on an add, you might over TP a little bit, or at least have the benefit of doing so, especially since Ruthless benefits linearly from scaling. RDM gets very fast TP anyways. I don't know at what point Ruthless would be better than Mercy (maybe like 1500-1750 or something). And Mpu Gandring is a better melee weapon due to the base triple attack too.

Ok I guess it was faster than expected: YouTube Video Placeholder
I just noticed this isn't the original Simon, is it? This is a recreation of I think Aramith's strategy? I don't remember seeing this video, the first one they fight upstairs. Could be mistaken but I don't recall an English version of this
By SimonSes 2025-08-12 10:36:04
I have no idea honestly. I remembered watching this strategy but without details of who was on it. If it was Aramith it should be easy to find.

That's a crazy strat. If Mew works, why not play it safer and use SMN on the 2nd KI?
Mewing can't keep up by itself, in my experience. You'll notice in their first KI, Arebati is using a bunch of TP moves. You can cure through it, but it's not ideal and SMN can't prevent it by itself.
Maybe BST can't either, IDK, I haven't done this strategy.
For my strat, we use BST + SMN in KI#1.
By SimonSes 2025-08-12 10:46:42
BST can, but only with Aymur, one one the reasons it's not D mythic :)

1 KI kill in 12 minutes? What set up is that?

Fight starts with Arebati 75%, so was 2 KI. He doesn't mention his 1st KI strat. It's RDM PLD COR BRD BST WAR. WAR is main target of Arebati's hate, PLD holds add and heals, RDM enfeebles and melees, BST Killer Instinct and TP Drainkiss (I suppose Evisceration is possible here with Tauret, too). As Simon mentioned, Aramith (RDM) uses Mandau for Mercy Stroke. TP Battery style just like Mboze KI2
Copilot translated description of video
Quote: This video starts just before the battle begins.
Arebati becomes extremely difficult in the final 40%, so we timed our damage peak to hit during that phase and pushed through.
In the previous fight, we had already reduced its HP to 75%, so even a single point of damage would trigger its special ability and cause the adds (guards) to spawn. We made sure Yaegasumi (Yae Mist) would wear off while pulling from the top of the stairs. As shown in this video, there's a chance of getting counterattacked due to Bind, so we had the Paladin come in for support.
At the start of the fight, healing causes unstable aggro, so the Red Mage and Paladin stand in the same spot to handle debuffs and healing while progressing. The Paladin holds back on healing right after the start to avoid building too much enmity.
In the mid-phase, we intentionally slowed down our Weapon Skill rotation to build TP and conserve resources. We prepared two WS gear sets: one with some Subtle Blow (Moksha) and one focused purely on power. Buff refreshes were timed to finish just before the final 40% phase.
During Unleash, we switched to the power-focused gear set and returned to normal WS rotation, using full abilities to burst down the boss quickly.
By the way, they wouldn't have Auspice for this fight, and based on Aramith's description above, they used two different WS sets, one with max Subtle Blow. This would have been a significant loss to DPS during the WS to make at least 50 subtle blow fit on all DD, but it would have made the fight significantly safer and easier to deal with. As you can see, they finished with several minutes remaining and TP moves were controlled. Reiterating that fastest kill is not the best kill.
edit: which reminds me, I need to make a toggle for WS mode: Subtle Blow across the jobs that don't have native Subtle Blow like BST, NIN, DNC, and MNK do. I wonder if Sim can predict what is the best Subtle Blow set for a job like, say RDM with the least loss to WS damage. I can make several different sets, but I would have to determine the best slots to make this work for each job, and I would just be eyeballing. Is there a sim that can do something like this that I can play with?

Finally a use for sim that is ideal for it.
Not automatically, but you can force the sim (Izanami's sim) to use subtle blow pieces in some slots of your choosing and tell you what will give you the highest damage for the other slots.

Wonder how much RDM debuffs help and if DNC could be used on that 2nd KI instead.

It would be easier to replace WAR not RDM.

Probably something like this as a generic set, eat Pukatrice Egg or Deep Fried Shrimp to cap. Knobkierrie jobs eat an HQ for +9 subtle blow and drop the ammo. Doesn't occupy any of the 5 main slots so can maintain Nyame or JSE. If you have a WHM, can drop the rings and waist slot.

Don't forget https://www.ffxiah.com/item/26116/schere-earring . Probably want schere for the -enmity plus the SB.

I didn't. The goal with the set I made was a generic one for All (most) Jobs without Auspice, using the least amount of essential slots possible. Schere can only be used by WAR MNK DRK SAM PUP (not needed for MNK). I also wanted to leave a spot open for Moonshade Earring, which is kind of a form of WS damage via TP Bonus stat. I feel like Moonshade > Schere, but depends on the WS of course. Also, DRK WAR SAM get Dagon+Niqmaddu for 15 SBII, so they can crank even further levels if they want to, and their WS damage is generally going to take less of a hit than say BRD RDM or COR. You can replace Dignitary's with Schere for DRK WAR SAM, but then you'd need 11 Subtle Blow if you wanted to use Knobkierrie, which isn't possible with a food option I don't think (might be a cheer you can use instead). I just tried to keep it simple as possible.
Monk is exempt from this set since it caps SB across all sets with little sacrifice

If you are serious about a Subtle Blow WS set, Peiste Belt +1 is an easy +10 on a slot that's not that powerful for most WS's in this situation.

Thank you. I missed that in my search. It actually eliminates the need for Dignitary's earring. I suppose I can just drop the ammo instead too. Excellent

50 SB on essentially every job, certainly the ones that matter, with 4 equipment slots.
You can re-jigger it as needed depending on how important those slots are to you.

mentioned it already, but anguta is very often underrated. putting apoc, lib, and anguta all at B or below seems like you are only considering a single aspect of drk gameplay or only specific events.

Truth is I don't have Anguta because I have needed Albumen on 2nd char for a while to finish there and I refuse to start a new set of Aeonics until doing both together. I do want it and could learn it is better but it's not super high priority.

seems disingenuous to rank a weapon you never used, but that makes sense now.

This ought to get some blood boiling. Mostly for fun and hype, but could be useful to some. Polls are open for 2 weeks. The more people who participate by voting for many weapons, the more accurate the lists will actually be. You are only required to vote for 1 weapon in each category to submit a vote.
Polls are closed! Thank you to everyone who participated.
